Epic Games acquires Rock Band maker Harmonix
2 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:49 ID: hlskpt5

Yes. I miss this and guitar hero

ID: hlsxat2

Just wait for a tiktok/youtube trend to take off which makes GH/RB popular again

ID: hlswstg

Them buying them doesn't mean there will be a new rockband

ID: hlsx8zd

A mobile or VR game is my guess as to what's in their future.

ID: hltim0p

If you have a PC, download clone hero, it's amazing.

3 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:55 ID: hlslne2

Big flex to buy them out mainly for them to do Fortnite concerts

4 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:48 ID: hlskksa

Omfg PLEASE make a new rock band game. It bothers the shit out of me that these guys still have an active game and even promote it, yet they DONT SELL THE GOD DAMN INSTRUMENTS. Ebay prices are inflated and way overpriced. How are they supposed to get new players when they dont officially sell the instruments/controllers anymore lmao

ID: hlsna0n

I didn't realize how much I was going to miss Rock Band until years after I already sold my set. I sold my set many years ago right before I moved to reduce clutter. I always assumed Rock Band would be around for a long time and that I would just buy a newer version of the set in the future. I've been wanting to replay Rock Band the past couple of years, but the instruments are all expensive. Now I wish I held onto everything.

ID: hltpyx3

I regret two things in my gaming life: selling my SNES and selling my 360 and PS2 gear for all of that stuff. I don’t sell any hardware anymore.

I’d 100% buy a whole new set of that stuff if they released a new gen of all that. Now that I’ve got a kid, it’s a no brainer.

ID: hlslora

They should sell a new Rockband and then sell the equipment forever

ID: hlsmio8

Yeah agreed. Clone Hero has breathed new life into the genre. Everyone wants to relive the nostalgia of GH/Rockband. Im not sure why there isnt new games or remasters out. I know a GH2+3 game would fly off the shelves. Rockband 2+3 would be awesome as well

ID: hlsogbe

The value of Rock Band gear is crazy. I had an Xbox One last gen and wanted to sell it to buy the PS5. I was able to sell the Xbox 1 with my rock band set for 450... Almost the entire cost of the PS5! haha

ID: hlssou2

Damn, that’s crazy. When my brother and I wanted a PS4, we went to GameStop to trade in our Xbox 360 and full set of Rock Band instruments that were in great shape…they wouldn’t even take the instruments and we just ended up throwing them away…fml

ID: hlt0rms

I'm honestly surprised you weren't able to sell it for more.

ID: hlspkmj

I'm kicking myself for not picking up a Rock Band 4 set when it first came out. I still have a mix of Rock Band 1 through 3 hardware and an Xbox 360 with all the RB games and hundreds of dollars in DLC that exists just for Rock Band 3. But, there are quite a few songs I want to play that are only available in RB4, and my hardware is getting old.

ID: hlsqdkj

Same dude. I got GH Live and not RB4 lmao. Im an idiot!

ID: hlsw046

But, there are quite a few songs I want to play that are only available in RB4, and my hardware is getting old.

for what it's worth, the launch guitars sucked. (at least on x1. not sure if ps4 had the same issues).

the guitar would just randomly freeze up mid song and show a button being held (even though you've let go) and it won't accept any input (including the strum bar or additional buttons) until you pulled the battery out and put it back in. (and naturally, the game doesn't auto-pause itself when this happens, and since it doesn't accept input you can't pause it, so you just go from 5* to failing out).

there was a firmware update that was SUPPOSED to fix this problem, but it didn't. it just sucks they wouldn't let us use gh2 guitars on it, because those were the best plastic guitars ever made and there is zero reason why ms wouldn't let us use them.

ID: hlsmqz6

It cost a lot of money to continually make and sell physical instruments, even if the majority of it is plastic and especially for a franchise that’s not selling as well anymore.

ID: hlsn535

I know they cost alot. Thats probably why madcatz went under tbh. But truthfully the market exists. The $100 15 year old decrepit Guitar Hero guitars that sell are proof of that. They went from goodwill junk to an item people actually want. Clone Hero players and nostalgic GH fans would buy into these games.

ID: hltqjzd

I think they need to find a manufacturer who can make equipment whether in low batches or as close to on demand as possible - the mass production runs won't work anymore.

For those hoping this means more instruments being made, From the Harmonix FAQ about the acquisition:

Q: Does this mean more Rock Band instruments will be made?
This is not in our current plans.

ID: hltgo9g

Great... Those things especially ps2 era are being scalped and gouged to all hell. Prices are ridiculous.

Just wish they would have come out with one collection/anniversary edition or something of all the games combined with working instruments.

Also music licensing sucks ass and is the ultimate grim reaper for older games.

6 : Anonymous2021/11/23 18:43 ID: hlsszud

I love Rock Band. Player since day 1 11/20/2007, Spent Thousands of dollars on DLC, expansions and instruments, and even make my own custom songs in RB3, but I don't see the value in Harmonix anymore, it pains me to say. This is a strange acquisition.

7 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:43 ID: hlsjsic

this is actually great fit for Harmonix as their games are super niche and they were bound to crash and burn eventually. I personally would love a free to play version of Rock Band that’s compatible with all of my DLC and includes a mode that’s similar to Rock Band: Unplugged on PSP. hopefully this deal gives them some money to engineer some collapsible drums too!

EDIT: they just released their official statement and said their next project is working on music experiences in Fortnite. uh-oh.

ID: hlsuhzk

They probably want Fortnite to be like the next Roblox.

8 : Anonymous2021/11/23 18:18 ID: hlsp5cw

Man, please make some more adapters for electronic drum sets... prices for those are astronomical.

ID: hlstkqm

From the Harmonix FAQ about the acquisition:

Q: Does this mean more Rock Band instruments will be made?

This is not in our current plans.

ID: hlstv8p

Figured.

9 : Anonymous2021/11/23 18:59 ID: hlsvh9r

hopefully it pans out ok for them. "loved small studio gets bought out by massive company" doesn't usually end up the way people want it to.

*looks at bioware*

10 : Anonymous2021/11/23 19:23 ID: hlsz5h6

Literally I want is another DJ hero

ID: hlt7tzl

Fuser?

11 : Anonymous2021/11/23 19:34 ID: hlt0wu7

I love Rock Band and Fuser, hopefully this means continued support for a long time yet.

12 : Anonymous2021/11/23 20:30 ID: hlt9d90

Guitar Hero was awesome. The last version sucked because the guitar change just wasn't fun. I'd love to see a new Rock Band while maintaining the original 5 button design.

13 : Anonymous2021/11/23 21:19 ID: hltgvvu

Rock Band will always be my favorite game of all time. I learned how to play drums because of it.

14 : Anonymous2021/11/23 21:49 ID: hltlff8

Rock band Battle Royale releasing in 2022, there will be Iron Maiden and Kiss skins on day one

15 : Anonymous2021/11/23 21:57 ID: hltmp03

Man I'd give my left nut for another rock band!!

16 : Anonymous2021/11/23 23:25 ID: hltz5as

This is closer to rock band being dead than it being revived. They're working on Fortnite now. No, that's not a joke.

17 : Anonymous2021/11/23 23:29 ID: hltzmqb

This is yet another epic games acquisition made on the backs of children buying fortnite stuff.

18 : Anonymous2021/11/23 18:18 ID: hlsp6z0

Oh god no

ID: hlssj5n

Better than Activision having it.

19 : Anonymous2021/11/23 19:45 ID: hlt2kvj

Rock Band 2 and 3 were awesome. Still have my Guitar Hero guitars...

20 : Anonymous2021/11/23 20:10 ID: hlt6fhb

I want a Piano game

21 : Anonymous2021/11/23 20:19 ID: hlt7pex

Wooooooow

22 : Anonymous2021/11/23 20:51 ID: hltcl3a

Oh yeah. I just dusted off my old Ion Pro drum set and my old 360 because I've been itching to play. A new one would be awesome if supported the old wired controllers.

23 : Anonymous2021/11/23 21:26 ID: hlthxio

RIP

24 : Anonymous2021/11/23 21:40 ID: hltk331

My Disappointment Is Immeasurable And My Day Is Ruined.

25 : Anonymous2021/11/23 21:51 ID: hltlt1f

It's for fortnite

Worst than the CoD mines

26 : Anonymous2021/11/23 22:14 ID: hltp97d

I so regret selling my Rock Band 2 drumset for wedding funds.....

27 : Anonymous2021/11/23 22:22 ID: hltqe7s

Guitar hero was massive in college

29 : Anonymous2021/11/23 17:41 ID: hlsjgfy

Ok…

30 : Anonymous2021/11/23 18:49 ID: hlsu1z1

amazing news for rockband fans actually

31 : Anonymous2021/11/23 20:42 ID: hltbbf4
