Are they faithful to original stories of respective games? I want to refresh my knowledge of re 1 - 3, cuz I always was more of a 4-6 fan, with loose understanding of past games events. Are remakes a good way to do this?

Overall narrative remains unchanged. There are minor changes as to how some events happen (some characters die in different ways, or don't go to certain locations, etc.) but the stories hit the same big points.

Resident Evil REmake: Yes, completly accurate to the OG with some new things
Resident Evil 2 Remake: No, some different deaths in the A/B scenerio, definitly better understanable in the OG, although not horrible in the first scenerio (has also minor changed things), but the basic story is the same.
Resident Evil 3 Remake: Yes/No, changes the story slighty with different encouters and locations but the outcome is the same.

Re3make changed plenty of things apart from the end. For example: death of pretty much every killed UBCS member changed, completly different nemesis encouters, Kendo appearence, Nicolais death and more.

For re1 and 2 yes but re3 is a bit mixed but if it’s your first time playing it then it’s fine

Well, imo I think Remake is the only one that is worth a damn. This isn't to offend Remake 2 or 3, it's just that they feel like quick abridged versions of their OG counterparts in terms of story. This is by no means trying to sway you against the game, if you are still curious, you can check them out if you want. I just feel that out of the remakes, the first one has a lot more effort into it.

Not RE2 remake as it makes absolutely zero sense from a story standpoint. Only Leon or Claire exist in a given playthrough, while the other one essentially vanishes. Annette has two completely different deaths and Mr X also dies in one scenario and miraculously comes back to be a prominent boss in the other.

The first two are, but the third heavily reduces the lore and our understanding of how the city fell. The original RE3 isn't exactly chock full of exposition itself, but there are plenty of notes, letters, photos and that iconic badass intro that shows the RPD & UBCS being overwhelmed by the scale of the disaster. R3make does a really poor job especially with the UBCS of showing how such an organised force could fail so heavily as well armed and prepared as they were and removes one of the major plot points that explained that in the original and subsequent titles.

Nope. RE1 is intact in the remake, but RE2 and RE3 remakes butcher the story.
As bizarre as it is, the original RE2 has more cutscenes, more dialog, and more files to read than the RE2 remake. I just find this utterly baffling. This most ridiculous thing is that Leon and Claire hardly ever talk to each other in the remake at all.

My understanding is the the remakes are the Canon now.

ID: hgh5ffhYeah I did some more digging and all I could find was an article that basically says they used the remakes in promotional material for a rerelease RE4. I don't think this is the nail in the coffin the author was making it out to be.
However, I think if capcom makes games that reference 2 or 3 in the future, they will most likely reference the remakes. To me that makes them canon. But you can choose to believe the originals are. Truth is, I don't think it matters that much since most of the major stuff is the same.

Yes 100% the remakes are better and Easter for the gameplay and story as I have just finished re2r

Yes and no Yes because it is easier to understand the story since we live in a time where we can watch cutscenes. No because some elements are changed in re2&3 remakes

Just watch play throughs of the originals on YT , I think they’re necessary and being too reliant on the remakes seems like you’re cheating yourself out of the full story
Edit: best to do this soon too before viewing the movie which is just going to muddy the waters even more.

RE1, yes. It's basically everything from the first game and a bit more.
RE2, no. RE2make's story leaves a lot of gaps that kinda hinge on the player already knowing the story of RE2.
RE3, kinda?

Yes, the remakes do change some things, but the other all story is the same.
