- First look at God of War Ragnarök
-
takes place years after the first game a key plot point is Atreus' true heritage Thor and Freya are two main antagonists new runes/abilities all 9 realms are in the gameID: hc8brwgID: hc8jzii
All 9 realms? Then I don't mind them retreading some locations from before. Looks like it'll be plenty frozen over anyway.
ID: hc8mezyI mean we only really played in 3 realms? Earth, Hel and Thor the Dark World. The rest were just small areas or not playable?
ID: hc8j0u5Holy shit the fight against Thor is gonna be fucking insane
-
'see you next year' so 2022 release date confirmed? Expect it between September-November?
ID: hc881bwYea, no date means its second half 2022 imo.
-
So this is the last game in this setting? So either Kratos dies or we move on to the next them and he's getting even older.
ID: hc8eepkThe Norse god of War betraying Kratos after he's been helped , considering what he technically did to Ares was a betrayal after the same thing and bringing it full circle would be a very good way to end his story
-
Thor confirmed!
ID: hc8o58qThor was confirmed inside GOW... If you go back to your house after the final credits, you get a scene showing that exact shot.
ID: hc8851mOdin too!!
-
So are they confirming this will be the last game in the Norse setting? They've mentioned "capping" this story a couple times.
ID: hc88x0iMakes sense seeming as they're letting you see all 9 realms now. It won't be the last GOW game though.
ID: hc88xcwI don’t mind this. Not everything has to be a trilogy
ID: hc8bih9I thought they said this was setting up the finale, so there should still be a third norse one.
ID: hc890d2Yes its confirmed. Maybe we get Egyptian mythology next? That would be dope!
ID: hc8djl0Oh man, this is what I thought about after I finished GOW. They can go into other mythologies and Egyptian would be the coolest. Then an Asian one. Lots of possibilities to keep GOW fresh as long there’s the signature solid gameplay to back it up.
ID: hc8a5cjConfirmed Loki marries Cleopatra
ID: hc8ch7dI would like mayan as that has some epic scope and a jungle/dessert setting that would like drastically different to eygpt
ID: hc89k58I really don't like that they mentioned it in the post trailer interview. Like, they gave away so much. Voice actors of characters that were yet to be shown, spoiled the name of a character in the trailer who fans were guessing was going to be in the game but you should still leave some mystique, yknow.
And then saying it was going to come to an end in this game? You could let us get to the end of the Ragnarok story before telling us that..
ID: hc89zfeYes really surprising how many details they gave away, almost as if they cant wait to be done with GoW norse mythology and move on.
ID: hc8dw3yFor what it's worth he said "setting up the finale of the Norse series" not that it is the finale
ID: hc88593Seems like it:(
Edit: nvm, see other comment
Edit: nvm, Herman said it’s the last for Norse

First day purchase for me!
ID: hc8cucpThis is the only game I will buy day one.
ID: hc89xegSame here. First game didn't have any additional LDC come down months after it was released. I feel safe getting this one right away.
-
You can visit all 9 realms! Including Asgard! Oooh how can you go to Asgard and NOT fight Odin?
ID: hc8g0mnApparently Odin doesn’t reside in a castle or anything. I think they hinted at him kinda being a nomad and doing old man things, but we’ll see.
ID: hc8jyt4Yeah, imagine if like we meet odin (as an old man disguise) in the town, not knowing it was odin until its revealed later in the game.
-
I can already tell atreus is gonna be more annoying than the previous
ID: hc89n75But to Kratos, he'll always be 'boy'.
-
Atreus is a Boy no more
-
Probably going to get downvoted, looks like it can be an expansion for GOW 2018 tbh Hopefully its more different in ways they are leading on
ID: hc8geopIt’s a sequel, they’re not going to drastically change everything for the sake of “new” but that being said there’s plenty of cool new things that were shown. New areas, characters, abilities and it’s pretty much a refined version of GOW 2018 in terms of gameplay which I don’t mind at all. I actually prefer they stay true to the previous game.
ID: hc89h7yYep. More of the same.
ID: hc8dylhWhy are people expecting something else? GoW2/3 are just “expansions” of GoW1, yet they are all great, of course Ragnarok is gonna be just an improvement of GoW 2018. You can’t expect them to reinvent the franchise between every game. As good as GoW 2018 was it left a lot of room for improvement, so there is a lot of untapped potential Ragnarok can tap into, without the need to reinvent the game again. More boss fights, more enemies, deeper combat, more npcs and ways to interact with the world, bigger scale etc.
ID: hc89jmuI was thinking the same while watching the trailer, looks so similar to GOW 2018, even the enemies that they showed looked the same, doesn’t look much like a new game - seems the game visual potential is being limited by a lot since it will be PS4 release too 🙁
ID: hc8apmvAlso late 2022 date most likely. Holiday 22 gonna be spicy
ID: hc88x8chow did you come to the conclusion that it will be just an expansion? do you mean as in DLC?
ID: hc89f9eI'm pretty sure that's what they mean. And I don't subscribe to that opinion.
-
December 2022???
ID: hc8ayvxCould be "holiday season" which extends up until end of Feb 2023 in Developer speak.
-
Looks very similar to the first game unfortunately, a PS4 game.
Don't get.me wrong but I expected more from ps5 by end of 2022..
ID: hc8cdddthink back to the initial reveals of God of War ps4 and get back to me on if the game exceeded what was shown in the first trailer...
We didn't even know that the blades of chaos were going to be in the game, they waited until halfway through the game almost to reveal that shit.
We have confirmation that all 9 realms will be utilized, so there's 4 brand new worlds that are going to be in the game. It's confirmed to be the end of the Norse saga, so there are a lot of massive boss battles that they aren't showing anything about yet (including still not revealing Odin). I'm glad that they are just building upon the excellent combat systems of the first game and focusing on giving us a number of sick battles and new worlds. We will have to cover a lot of ground story-wise within the game, so the idea that they shouldn't fix what isn't broken (combat) seems good with me
ID: hc8demwI think that's less of a problem and more of a testament to how good the original looked. Yes the original look really good but the thing about this game is that it boosts granular detail like the wood textures as Kratos gets off the boat. The granular details is why UE5 is getting all the hype, also sequels never change the core gameplay loop just add new locations, improve animation etc
ID: hc8cs0lI wonder how they will implement haptics and adaptive triggers.
ID: hc8i3fwthe game is cross-gen it will be on ps4 too
-
That was pretty disappointing to be honest. Looks more like a DLC than a new game. There's absolutely nothing new here.
I mean, just look at the difference between Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. That's the kind of improvement I expected from God of War.
ID: hc8anwrYes, looks more like a DLC than a new game, kinda disappointing.
-
PS4 holding us back
-
Yeah I guess so, I was honestly surprised this comes out for the PS4. Dont know how my 6 years old console could manage this without blowing up though.
-
Don’t judge by streaming quality it will looks amazing.
-
No doubt it will look amazing, the issue Im having is I expected a giant leap, like from God of war 2 to 3. Though I will still 100% buy this no doubt.
-
The graphics didn't impress me to be honest.
I know it's cross gen, but Horizon looks way better.
-
it looks like they reuse a lot of assets from the 2018 GoW
-
Yeah I know, right? It just seemed a bit too familiar. I was expecting a giant leap forward, like from GoW2 to 3.
-
What are you expecting exactly? The 2018 game still looks better than almost anything else that’s out. It looked the same as that at the very least
-
Did we watch the same trailer?
-
Probablywe just have two separate opinions mate 🙂
-
As hyped as I am for the trailer, I'm not ready for this to be over! I can't believe they are capping off the norse story in two games, and without a true ps5 release no less..
-
The reveal trailer for the 2018 GOW and this one is proof that changing directors was no good idea…2018 game reveal was legendary compared to this 🙁
-
Yeah I liked the rhythm of that trailer more
-
Why did they say god of war raganrok isn’t the final name if it is lol. Also while I am hyped, this looked exactly like the first game graphically.
-
Yeah because Cory is not directing it, and he seemed pretty sarcastic like he was not really accepted the fact that sony wanted to push it to release not waiting 2 even 3 years before releasing, therefore Cory could have been there and the graphical solutions would be better also. this way it's going to release for ps4, next year. Grab that money
-
Cory literally stated his plan was to get GoW back on 3yr cycle back in 2018, the headcanon some of you people are making is insane.
-
Why you people like so much writing drama fanfics of developers? He said he wouldn't be directing the new game since 2018. Also, he's an industry veteran. He knows that games can't wait because of one guy, and neither he wanted this game to release so late.
-
It looks so good. Buying this on Day One. They said it would be the end of the Norse saga.
-
I would love for them to remake the original god of war from the ps2 era. Would look so good
-
Good.
-
Anyone got a link to the trailer? Can’t be arsed to look through the whole ahowcase
-
I wanted to see some fights in Asgard in the trailer
-
The story will revolve around Loki wanting to know his glorious purpose

all 9 realms are in the game
Fuck yeah!
