Sony Releases Aftermarket PS5 SSD Under the Nextorage Brand

Galaxy brain Sony. Fuck us with a small SSD then give us this eons lately.

3 : Anonymous2021/09/16 21:08 ID: hd4mjia

No pricing or dates.

ID: hd4mxxn

What do you think? Higher or lower prices that what's out there? Or the same price range?

ID: hd4nwcq

I think if they had put Sony on it it could be sold higher than the market; never heard of Nextorage so to me that means it should sell at less than the market. Name is not everything, but if everything is equal name will win every time

ID: hd4ta3y

Middle high. Probably around the price of the Samsung nvme sata 4 drives. More than the Western Digital.

ID: hd4ozhc

Higher

ID: hd5755c

Higher. The convenience of Sony branding and a guarantee of it working will increase price, and justifiably so.

ID: hd4v4z9

If they can make it lower they would generate even way more money honestly

4 : Anonymous2021/09/16 22:57 ID: hd514xf

Lol. And this is why Cerny was most definitely NOT officially recommending the WD drives.

5 : Anonymous2021/09/16 21:40 ID: hd4r0ru

I'll stick with my SN850 thank you very much

ID: hd4xq73

Same, I’m perfectly fine right now with the WD black! I put all my PS4 games on there so I can put more PS5 games on the internal SSD

ID: hd542o3

Especially when one of the freakin masterminds behind the PS5 is going with it.

6 : Anonymous2021/09/16 21:11 ID: hd4n1mu

I've been confused on compatability. It's most gen4x4 M.2 drives right?

ID: hd4olx6

Needs to be gen 4 and have a minimum read speed. Like 5000 or 5500 MB/s.

ID: hd5605m

There are gen 4 that aren’t fast enough….but technically still worked in the beta. Don’t know it that is still true.

Just get the WD Black SN850….it’s on sale at best buy right now.

ID: hd57098

The only one I see on sale is the one without heat sink. Will that work?

ID: hd4p4eb

Any Gen4 will work. There is a recommended read speed, bit it's only a recommendation. Basic requirements are:
Gen4
Heatsink
Drive+Heatsink fits the dimensions

ID: hd4s5pl

While it is only a recommendation, certain PS5 games will be reading data near or at those speeds so I’d recommend picking one that hits the spec cap.

The news of a compatible NVMe made by their subsidiary that makes NVMe's came through 2 months ago and there was a post with quite a bit of comments and detail about it.

/comments/og1xy8/nextorage_a_company_from_the_sony_group_to/" class="reddit-press-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://old.reddit.com//comments/og1xy8/nextorage_a_company_from_the_sony_group_to/

This follow up news with a model and performance is interesting

8 : Anonymous2021/09/16 22:35 ID: hd4yehi

The 15 buck one off Amazon worked flawlessly for me with Samsung 980pro

Read speeds 6800mb/s

ID: hd52fdn

How do you get those speeds on the 980 pro? I only get like 5700mb/sec

ID: hd5368p

Not sure tbh I used heatsink and installed today after updating earlier

Kind of a misleading title, Sony isn't releasing these lol. It's an aftermarket SSD, hence Sony doesn't really have any control over them.

ID: hd4qvit

It's a Sony owned company. Hence the wording of the title specifying this.

ID: hd4v0ld

Ah wasn't aware it was owned by them, first time hearing of Nextorage. But that little bit "Sony owned company Releases..." would have helped clarification.

ID: hd4sgn1

Lol I swear people always misinterpreting things

ID: hd4rtrm

Lol no it's not. The title is clear.

Don't be like the mods and label it "misleading" and saying I'm "blatantly wrong", like they did with my Horizon post that was proven right by Sony themselves lol.

Man I'm having PTSD lol

ID: hd4vdd2

I didn't report it or anything if that's what you're saying. I just don't think many people know that Nextorage is owned by Sony hence the confusion. Seems the company was recently founded in 2019.

So yeah I'll admit, bad choice of words from me, should have said confusing as opposed to misleading.

ID: hd4vc17

Only thing that's misleading is your comment.

10 : Anonymous2021/09/16 21:48 ID: hd4s5ko

Meh. Wait on that FireCuda 530

ID: hd4srdt

I myself have been using the 980 pro since the beta. Works great buuuuuuut I am now wanting a 2tb one lol. I got the 1tb.

ID: hd4u15r

Step 1. Snagged a 2TB SN850 that got lost in the mail thanks to Ontrac fuckwits and Best Buy refunded me for lost drive. only then to have the drive to show up my door a few days later

Step 2. .....?

Step 3. Profit

ID: hd4tz0h

Maybe this time next year, the prices will come down for the 2TB. And maybe by this time next year, we will actually need the storage space.

11 : Anonymous2021/09/16 22:20 ID: hd4we2n

Ive just ordered the 4tb ssd recommended, cost more than the console

ID: hd4yh3v

Dang son what brand was that

ID: hd50ory

Some seagate firecuda thing, i know Very little about it all but i do know i need more storage so

ID: hd4ynnm

What 4tb did you buy?

ID: hd50lsf

Seagate FireCuda 530 4TB M.2 2280-D2 PCIe Gen4 ×4 NVMe 1.4 SSD thats the description, been told it will work but it was damn expensive

12 : Anonymous2021/09/16 22:52 ID: hd50h03

If this costs more than say, a Samsung NVMe, then I'll just opt for the Samsung.

13 : Anonymous2021/09/16 21:27 ID: hd4p9yy

Wait, so I can't just use my Seagate that's on my ps4 on my ps5?

ID: hd4pxea

I believe they are small sticks and they need heat sinks

ID: hd4qo8w

Oh I see. Thank you. Have a nice evening

ID: hd4r4it

No, that is 2.5'' SATA SSD form factor, PS5 requires M.2 SSD generation 4 NVME drives to work inside it

ID: hd4rjba

I can never remember all those words and abbreviations for the specs of things but it sounds fancy
