- Whats your favorite FPS and why is it not COD?
-
Unreal Tournament from 1999
A relic of it's era but easily adaptable (mutators/mods) into the best FPS you can play today
ID: hd95smwID: hd9eii4You can still find games of Insta-Gib with Splitgate, as well as Team Swat which is also nearly identical
ID: hd96zwqMy man
ID: hd9cdx3Red Leader, you got point!
ID: hd9ei98The sheer amount of stuff there was for that game was just incredible. If it came out now I'd say it had a fantastic selection of game modes, maps and mutators. And that's just counting the base game. It had a bunch of great free updates and so much community stuff. Thousands of maps, character models, weapon mods, game modes, mutators and whatever else you could think of.
The moment that really blew my mind was when I was playing a pacman-inspired collect-the-pills game mode that somehow worked on any death match map, and nearly lost to the bots.

DOOM, Quake, Halo, Rainbow Six, and Zero Hour
EDIT: Counter-Strike as well.
ID: hd8i32lAlso like Wolfenstein. Even old school Wolfenstein holds a special place to add to this list.
ID: hd8pnboWolfenstein Enemy Territory. Back in the day one of the best (free) online multiplayers shooters imo.
ID: hd8qsxvRespect your balls to include Zero Hour as a top 5
-
Halo: Combat Evolved.
Even though I’m primarily a PC gamer and my first FPS was Wolfenstein 3D on C64, Halo’s story, music, twist, and enemies are so satisfying; I replay it about once a year. Every time I cannot believe how well fighting grunts and elites holds up. To think that it was originally developed as a Mac exclusive.
-
DOOM 2 or Half-Life 2
-
Perfect Dark is the GOAT.
ID: hd932ywI'm torn between Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. So many fond memories from both games.
ID: hd998q8But PD had simulants!
-
Bioshock
ID: hd8ay3eBioshock
ID: hd8c2kxBioshock II
ID: hd8ddx0Better gameplay, but worse story. Bioshock has a special place for me; I got deployed just before it came out after looking forward to it for awhile. Finally came home and sitting down with a cocktail and playing it is still one of my fondest memories.
ID: hd8jp3vI can't believe I hadn't played this game and the rest of the series until 2 years ago. It became an instant favorite.
I was gonna say Halo but I think Bioshock is a better pick for me as well.
-
Half-Life. Because it was absolutely fascinating to traverse what felt like a lived-in world and determine how you advanced. And it was all just one continuous experience. Truly "the thinking man's shooter" as opposed to the "pew-pew, dead, repeat" of COD.
-
Metro
-
Because when I first saw Halo, I was blinded by its majesty
ID: hd91wzwGood shout that. Halo was so good.
-
Multiplayer fps? Probably Team Fortress 2 or Overwatch, leaning more towards Overwatch.
Singleplayer fps? I'd say the first Doom.
I've personally never played Call of Duty because they all look so generic to me. Plus with a new one coming out every damn year, it'd never feel like I was actually playing a "modern" fps if you know what I mean.
-
Half life. Forever.
It changed everything.
Original COD was epic, I remember parachuting in and hiding from gunfire behind a dead cow, but it wasn't anything MOH hadn't done already
ID: hd89g9mI preferred the early MOH games to COD but then they dropped Modern Warfare and I was well and truly onboard that train. Stopped playing COD after MW3 and haven't missed it.
-
OG Doom still reigns supreme and very few FPS games have managed to match its gameplay. Even new Doom, though awesome in its own right, was a different game altogether.
Left 4 Dead 2 is a close second.
-
Duke Nukem
-
HeXeN
-
Killing floor and Left4Dead2, no doubt. COD just isn't my thing.
ID: hd8b62rHell yeah brother, killing floor was basically my way of replacing cod zombies
-
Battlefield 1 Cause it was the last FPS together with my brother in the same room with 2 tv and 2 PS4. After that I moved to a different City... Gaming now feels just different compare to the good days. Just two brother enjoying video games
-
Far Cry 2-5 including primal. haven't played 6 yet. I love the open world. although I am disappointed that 6 will come out of First Person during cutscenes/dialog
-
Planetside 2, no other true MMOFPS's out there
-
Half Life 2 and Half Life.
I like linear motivated storytelling. COD skirmishes do nothing for me.
-
Doom or Wolfenstein is where it all started for me.
-
Halo 3, baybeeeeee
Because in CoD, an "awesome play" is just getting a bunch of kills and headshots. Maybe a 360-no-scope.
In Halo 3, an "awesome play" is using a grenade to detonate an explosive barrel, sending a street-cone flying into an enemy's head and killing them.
Halo 3 is just bonkers compared to CoD.
-
Goldeneye
ID: hd8crt9And the follow up Perfect Dark
-
battlefield 4 large battles , vehicles, lots of weapons more realistic then COD huge interactive maps and a better community
ID: hd881n3also i would say destiny 2 but thats more RPG kind of game
ID: hd8tmm1The worst thing about COD IMO is that you can't move freely around the environment. They'll put like a red velvet rope blocking hallways and shit. Like this is war my guy why are you stopping for the box in that doorway?
-
Goldeneye 64
-
Unreal tournament half life duke nukem 3d alien vs predator
-
every duke nukem game
-

-
Quake 1. Here’s hoping that those rumours about a reboot are true
-
Unreal Torunament 2003
-
because i like Halo more than CoD
