Thermal Pads for Nitro+ RX 580 8GB (also driver suggestion)

I'm planning on repasting my Nitro+ RX 580 (the special edition blue one, if that makes a difference) and was wondering what thermal pads people recommend for the memory modules?

That aside, I was also wondering which of the latest drivers were the most stable? Currently on 21.6.1, haven't been able to find much to read about 21.8.1, 21.8.2, etc. performance on Polaris

Update to the latest drivers. Highly doubt you'll have any issues, if you do just roll them back

On W10 i use latest 21.9.2 , on F34 i have mesa 21.2.2 all working perfectly. I have same GPU but never bothered to repast it ;>

I don't really recommend replacing them. It will not help much as they don't get hot on the 580. Just re use them, it's what I did.

If you still want to replace them, you will need to measure how thick they are. If they are not thick enough you will have hot memory, but if is too thick the cold plate will have problems touching the core.

I didn't have any issues with 21.8.1, 21.8.2. Performance looks the same. I haven't done any testing

So, just replace thermal paste and try not to mess with the pads? Fair enough

Just make sure they stay intact. Also if you want to see if the paste change did something. Make sure you benchmarks it with fix fan rpm to see any temp differences.

That is because fan speed scales with core temps on auto and tries to keep it at certain temp. You wouldn't notice drop in temps but a there will be a drop in rpm.

In my case with fix fans there was around 6-7C change or about 200-300 rpm drop on auto.

As long they are still soft and " squishy" to the touch, don't need to replace the pads...if they are rigid, then you should change them.

I am using the latest beta drivers (21.9.2) without issues, but I haven't had problems for the last two years with the drivers, apart from the custom fan-curve not being a curve (single monitor system and no streaming, which could be a factor.)

I recently repasted my Pulse after more than 2 years with Arctic MX-4 and it worked like a charm (500RPM less for the same temps.)

Also, Sapphire used non-standard thermal pads of 0.75mm that aren't easy to find for both the Nitro+ and the Pulse: (it seems 0.5mm also work.)

Personally I'm still using the original ones and they looked fine last week.

Driver suggestion? Always the last lol, what kind of question is this

Drivers sometimes just shit out for whatever, wondering what the community consensus is (if there is any) on stable Polaris drivers

No lol, not true

How much do you want out of that gpu? Like, all of it? On linux, i get enough frames that i prefer to lock the fps. I dont even have the nitro. And thats on max settings.

Honestly, what problem are you trying to solve?

thermal grizzly is optimal but get arctic if you have no other choice.

Not thermal paste, thermal pads, like these things for the memory modules. I've heard a couple people recommend different thermal pads, but I'm not sure what thickness I should get.

As for drivers, I'm just wondering what of the recent drivers (post 21.6.2) are regarded as (relatively) stable for RX 580 users.

Yeah sorry that was a lookup issue.

Gelid 1.5mm to 2mm. Depends on the part you’re covering, but 1.5 might be optimal on average.

Im a linux user, but window drivers didnt give me any headaches at all. Other users report similar.

I never got the OC to work, but i never really tried that hard either

I've got Gelid Extreme 1mm's on my Pulse, not 100% they're the same but afaik the main difference is just the thickness of the heatsink. Made a big difference.
