Recently got a monitor that has HDMI 2.1. I'm just curious about something
My monitor goes black for a few seconds every time I start up a game that runs at 4K 120FPS. Is that just what the PS5 does to switch the output, or is that most likely my monitor?

Expected behavior.
-
Yes mine does that too

Probably HDMI handshake can't blame a single device since it happens between them
ID: hg0mkruID: hg0tapnHe's saying with out knowing the set up, first guess is an HDMI issue but I have an 8k HDMI connecting my PS5 to my LG CX55, it does the same thing when it switches 4K to 1080 or 60hrz to 120hrz.
Also to be clear OP, your game isn't actually in 4k @ 120hrz, it's probably close to 1200-1440hrz @ 120 but the PS5 doesn't have a 1440 mode so it runs either 1080p or 2180p. I haven't seen a game that runs native 4K @ 120hrz but it would be cool to know if there are any out there

Just switching it same thing happens with hdr as well.
-
Yes it's normal, if the game doesn't use 120hz the PS5 always falls back to 60hz, so when that happens the screen goes black for a moment. The same thing happens when you enable/disable HDR.
-
It's normal. The PS5 runs in 4K60 unless a game specifies 120 fps mode, at which point it switches. In order to switch, it flips off the HDMI signal and then on again at the higher frame rate - this causes a brief black screen.
-
My LG C9 also does this. It's especially annoying in Rainbow Six Siege, because it keeps switching from 60 fps in the menus and 120 fps in game.
-
Does that on PC if you change the refresh rate. It's completely normal.
-
What games you playing that run at 4k 120fps?
ID: hg1fpnnDirt 5? I think Warzone does 1440p upscale to 4k at 120 but not sure
ID: hg1fqm1Warzone. That's about it lol
ID: hg1il22Destiny 2 PvP is 4k 120fps, and 4k 60fps for everything else.
-
totally OK, my TV do the same thing

Which monitor did you purchase? Still searching for one. Favourites are still the Eve Spectrum and gigabyte M28U.
ID: hg1fvtpIt's the spectrum. However I pre-ordered and used express shipping. I'm more than happy with the product, but I'm hearing people who bought months ago and used standard shipping still don't even have tracking numbers.

It’s because the game switches resolution/frame rate. Nothing to worry about. For instance on Destiny 2 in PvE it’s 4k/60 but when you start a PvP match it’s 1440/4k/ 120, so every time a PvP match starts the screen goes back/refreshes itself.
You’ve got nothing to worry about. It’s just your monitor recalibrating itself.

What monitor did you get?
ID: hg1is14Eve Spectrum. 4k 144hz model
-
What monitor did you buy? I’m looking for a monitor for my PS5.

My TV is not 120hz. But I do have 4k/60/sub parts HDR. My TV has a setting to turn off notification for HDR content. Usually I'll get a HDR logo in top right corner.
