Hey guys, i’m currently sitting with my 3600 - gtx 980ti oc’ed combo in 1080p @144hz, but planning to upgrade to 1440p @144hz while waiting any new gpus to drop hopefully. Is there any advantage if i go with the 5600x while going from 1080p to 1440p?

Sort the GPU first and see if the games you play are CPU bound, can’t see why 3600 couldn’t do good 1440p gaming with like say a 3070 nVidia GPU or higher or equivalent.
I could do 1440p high frame rate easy on a Ryzen 2600 with a 2080 RTX
ID: hfz8vlrID: hfzetu73600 is the bottleneck for any 144 fps 1080p mp games with more than 10-12 players. It can be especially rough if you have a bronze bin 3600. 980ti is about gtx 1070 performance and i had to lower resolution ratio to 85% with min graphics to avoid 100% gpu load in bfv 1080p (running 3600+gtx 1070). Fps around 100-130.
You will avoid deeper 1% lows and experience bit less stuttering but arguably not worth it at 1440p. Especially not now since AMD/Intel are launching new CPUs (which will depress current prices).
ID: hfzh4wgReally? I couldn’t hold 144 in fortnite with a 2600, was maxing single core/thread and I would get drops a lot. Can do easy now with 5800x. World of difference.

3600 is a very capable processor, see how it is with a graphics upgrade and then upgrade cpu if necessary, I’d honestly say it runs the same if not better than my 10870h

Generally you’ll get less out of the CPU upgrade at higher resolution. In your case, with a 980ti, I’m not sure you’ll notice any difference at all since you’re rarely CPU bound. The speed of the GPU will determine your max frames.
After your GPU upgrade, it’s still likely not more than a ~10-12% FPS speed bump at 1440/144 between the 3600 and 5600x. If you find a good price for the 5600x it may be worth it.

If your CPU is currently good enough for 144 FPS at 1080p, then it will be good enough for 144 FPS at 1440p with a better GPU. (If you go with an AMD GPU there's also a chance that the lower driver overhead will help.)
In any case, I'd wait on any CPU upgrades until Alder Lake is released.

If you're tight on money, I'd wait for a new card before re-assessing the CPU. You might find that at 1440p and the new card, the performance is good enough to tie you over for the next generation of CPUs (3600 -> 5600X is only a single generational leap which is a very, very short time period to swap CPUs). You'll get bigger gains with the card at 1440p than you would with the CPU.
If you're particularly struggling with certain titles and the money isn't a big deal, go for the 5600X to hold you over.

yes, faster cpu matters with 1440p and while the difference isn't as big as 1080p its still there

i was planning to get a 3060ti but if the chance will come the 3070 will the main choice, usually i play warzone, apex, cs, valorant and so on… and occasionally AAA title games, so the main intent was to get even on low settings 144+ fps in any sort of fps game and 70/80fps+ on AAA games with highish settings
