Strange how A320 and B350 get support yet AMD still blocks X370
Here's an GIGABYTE A320M-S2H
And here's an GIGABYTE AX370 Gaming 5 which lacks it
AMD is to blame, they're the one's that put an AGESA block to prevent X370 from running 1.2.x.x or later with Zen 3 and they also sent AsRock the C&D
According to this thread, the GA-A320M-S2H V2 (rev 1.1) got the update too. This board is one of these A320s that are B350s in disguise.
So A320 and B350 got the update so far.
Would you look at that. Latest AGESA, all Ryzen families, all fit in 16MB. The only sacrifice required was to remove faildozer from the mix. Asrock had to do the same on theirs.

That moment when the cheapest motherboards get the latest support but a decent b350 gigabyte motherboard doesn’t.

Hmm. That's intersting. Maybe they removed the lock in the latest agesa?
If there is any volunteer here with an external flasher to try it out. I would, but if something goes wrong, I have to disassembly my sffpc to install the clip, and that's a pain I would rather avoid.

this is great. I have the GA-A320M-S2H, I should put my 5800X on it. When I was using the 3300X on it, it has great bandwidth/latency numbers.

Nothing too strange for entry mb to get longer support, than higher end models. Have often seen it happen, that entry mobos were sold for several years longer than higher end ones. Also, A320 did not have a refresh with the 400-generation, and were entry tier with 400-series too.
(MSI Mortar B350M user myself; getting support for 5000-series CPUs would be great, but don't see it likely at all)
ID: hi05r8dI have a B350 tomahawk arctic, i kinda wish it got more updates too. They've released over a year ago a beta bios with AGESA 1.0.0.6 and thats it :/
ID: hi084l9It actually is very bizarre and it's never happened before where the cheapest motherboard got longer support than the flagship, it's either been they both get support or the flagship gets longer support.
Let's take a look at GA-A320M-S2H (rev. 1.x) motherboard, the last AGESA update (prior to 1.2.0.3b) was 1.0.0.6 A on 01/05/2021 but GA-AX370-Gaming 5's last BIOS update was for AGESA 1.0.0.6 on 07/02/2020 - makes absolutely no sense.

It's so ridiculous that my high-end x370 pretty much got EOL'd while these budget boards are still going.
ID: hi0drt6We got fucked over in a big way. Won't forget.
ID: hi186bgFuck AMD.
(also fuck other companies that do their best to grow and make money/profit cuz that's what companies do and then make stupid decisions for no reasons)
ID: hi0ks3wNo, you didn’t.
You got three full generations of processor support. Historically before Ryzen, that’s pretty much unprecedented.
The b350 and a320 boards are getting longer support because most of them are fundamentally very similar to B450 boards that have to be supported. There are b350 boards so close to b450 boards you can literally just bios flash them into b450.
X370 and X470 had some differences that don’t make this as simple. X370 wasn’t in a lot of OEM devices where legacy support may still be needed. It was primarily a higher end design for enthusiasts. Most enthusiasts would not want to use X370 boards with their brand new Ryzen 5000 processor anyways, they would want the latest and greatest X570 board with it.
Everyone in this thread is talking about “goodwill”. Well, you have to keep your motherboard manufactures all happy too. And they’ve easily beat Intel in support already.
ID: hi1nzxwB350 user, also 1700 owner, definitely won't forget
ID: hi115xfWhat we need here, is a class action lawsuit. If people won the Bulldozer lawsuit, which AMD actually had a fair shot at winning, because loads of CPUs in the past didn't have dedicated floating point units, (but AMD threw in the towel and rightfully decided that the legal battle wasn't worth fighting for financial reasons), then this one should be a piece of cake/slam dunk.
As an American I'm surprised and disappointed that we haven't seen one from the B350/X370 users already. Remember that they also tried to give B450 users the shaft... And I've a feeling that if that policy had gone through, it would have definitely been lawsuit time.
ID: hi1bakpLawsuit on what grounds?
AMD didn't lose the Bulldozer suit. They settled to make it go away. They would have won on the facts, but that would require time and money that they decided would be better spent working on their future products.

Had a x370 killer sli and it still can't run zen 3. While these cheapo a320 boards can. What in the world
ID: hi0zvceAsrock had beta BIOS for Zen 3 at some point, they won't update it since AMD prevents it but you technically can run Zen 3 without doing some voodoo mods. Might be tricky to find now but I'm sure someone has saved them.

What the fuck! I think Gigabyte is doing something that AMD doesn't want, but props for them showing that it is possible.
The best reaction would be that AMD open ups the AGESA for the 370x chipset. But my guess is that AMD is going after GB and send a C&D letter to them. And block the B350 en B320 chipset if future Agesa releases, sadly.
If only their marketing would understand how much good will, not blocking the AGESA would deliver them...
ID: hi1dv3uI don't know exactly what AMD would do if they were mad about this. Asrock did this before, but never released the BIOS officially because AMD told them not to.
I suppose we'll have to keep an eye on this.
ID: hi1q74kWhy is AMD blocking it? I would have thought they'd encourage it. It would incentivize buying Zen3 for first gen mobo owners.
-
do you think this has to do with larger volume of sales from a320 when compared to other mobo?
more sales=more money, so they provide longer support?
ID: hi1ur06maybe, its also a fact that enthusiasts are more than willing to spend money on stuff so if this was indeed the case then it's a win-win for partners.
Their enthusiast line of motherboards will basically have another sale wave while they can maintain the flow of their cheaper boards
-
Ok so what is AGESA, I really don't know.
ID: hi1lql9Fancy name for the BIOS code that allows specific CPU support and support of specific CPU features and technologies
-
What?A320 motherboards will work with zen 3 processors?
ID: hi19tktAnd they're going to work with the new AM5 CPU as well! /s

First of all, interesting find.
I sampled some of the Gigabyte 300 series MBs, and found I think two with support for Ryzen 5000. Most are stuck on AGESA 1.0.0.6.
So it looks like support is very sporadic. I sampled only a few (maybe 10), so can't say how many have it, but I certainly can't say what the trend here is.
Obviously AMD is to blame, but I don't know if they allow A320 and B350 either, or if it's just Gigabyte flying under the radar, like ASRock tried to do.
ID: hi1eugzThis is off-topic, but would you happen to know if 1.0.0.6 offers any improvements for Zen 1 CPUs? I'm assuming not, or if yes, then just a little.
It's hard for me to find an conclusive answer to this because most of the threads about the AGESA updates were people talking about Zen 2 and 3.
-
It'd be nice if Asus made a bios for the C6H to run Zen 3 so I don't have to use my current crossflashed method to run a 5600x.
Also I see you pasted some of the stuff that I posted from OCN.

My ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero X370 is still without Resizable BAR support.
-
It's very simple. It's a numbers game. They sold way more A320 and B350 to OEM's so make sense numbers wise to support the most sold chipsets that could potentially get you sales on your new CPU's.And they figured that the DIY market that could afford a X370 can afford upgrading now.It sucks. There's always been an early adopter tax for premiun chipsets and GPU's but AMD have gone a little too far.Lesson learned, never EVER buy first generation of premium chipset mobo/GPU's.
ID: hi1mt9iA320 and B350 sales have nothing to do with AMD blocking X370 manufacturers from releasing latest BIOS update.
-
My next motherboard will also be from Gigabyte if you can also give my AB350N the AGESA update, pretty please~
ID: hi19ye7Just get ASRock next time and you'll never have to beg.
ID: hi1fo07I'll be sticking with Asrock for my next board so long as they don't mess anything up. I saw they removed half of the audio ports on their itx B550 board a while back.
They've updated my B350 board nicely, and their support team has helped me out all the times I reached out, so I'm happy on that front.
-
God I'm hoping my B350 gets the update.

My Gigabyte AB350M motherboard does not have support for Ryzen 5000. The last BIOS update is still from last year when it added Ryzen 3000 XT support.

In Asus land it's even worse the previous to last bios they releassd was fully aimed at preventing people from modding their bios lol.
