- Toys ‘R’ Us in 1999
-
I remember my grandma, rest her soul, taking me to toys R us to window shop and play the video games displays. We would go mostly every Saturday and would stay for a few hours. One trip my grandma told me I could get a game. I remember spending at least 45 mins telling my grandma all about Pokémon and the difference of red and blue. I finally settled on blue as it was my favorite color. Honestly some great memories.
ID: hicgw3iID: hid9vwbMy grandfather got my Pokémon black for my 4th birthday. Honestly one of the best memories I had was with my grandfather. I hope to see him again when I go to heaven.
ID: hid7fmeReddit does not deserve content this wholesome. God bless your Nan!
ID: hidjnj2I remember buying my copy of Blue with the money I made selling all kinds of toys at a family yard sale that day. We had the yard sale, I made around 40 bucks, my mom took me to Wal Mart, I bought blue, and she took me to my grandparent's house to stay the night. I played so much I had a Blastoise before she had actually left that night. I remember going to bed, but waking up around 3 AM and turning on the light so I could keep playing, and my grandma coming in and making me go back to bed.
So many memories with that game. It was my childhood. I have so many memories with Pokemon Red and Blue. Including happening to make it to Lavender Town and the Pokemon Tower at the family get together after my other grandmother's funeral.
People say games aren't art, or can't have an impact, but I'm about to turn 30 and I still carry those memories with me as some of the happiest times of my life, even when I was going through darker stuff as a kid. Games really helped me process things.

TAKE ME BACK!!!
ID: hicfn74I was there gandalf... I was there 23 years ago...
ID: hid9l50I never had a Gameboy Color. But I'll never forget the joy I had in 1999 or 1998 when my mom picked me up from school and there was a new Gameboy Pocket and Pokemon Blue in the seat.

Ohhhh the nostalgia hits hard
-
I still miss my lime green Gameboy color
ID: hicr9a3Kiwi green you heathen!
ID: hicrr4gForgive me for I have sinned!!

You walk outside as the late afternoon is full swing, seeing your bike laying on the grass. The scents of barbecue and fireworks linger on the breeze. There were n64s in the McDonalds...
ID: hid57caChill, we are already depressed as it is, no need to make us remember the good ole days.
But for real, miss those days of not being a wage slave.
-
it's.. beautiful..
-
I cannot put into words what this makes me feel. Wow.
-
Right before the world went to shit. They were on to something for Y2K.
-
Man, life was good.
-
Not me trying to remember what it smelled like

Based on release dates, I’m surprised to see Pokémon TCG and not Yellow, Gold, or Silver.
ID: hice042TCG on Gameboy was a genuinely good game.
ID: hid305hIt's insanely good, I played it somewhat recently (few years ago) for the first time and I had so much fun. I kinda wish tcg online was more like that
ID: hibldyjGold and silver came out late 99. This is probably just before the release.
ID: hibpm2aPokémon TCG for the Game Boy was released in North America on April 10, 2000. It’s first release outside Japan was in Australia on April 7, 2000.
ID: hicicpuI think yellow was on the other side, they released the yellow game boy with the game (in a bundle iirc)

said, it’s a video game that replicates/emulates the real-world Pokémon trading card game/collectible card game. -
That takes me back. The good ol’ days where the only reason we went was to play as much video games as a kid humanly could in the hour that our parents could stand to be in there.
-
That felt good, thank you.
-
I can smell this image

They would still be around if not for Vulture capitalists.
ID: hibl224It's okay, they've taken refuge in Canada.
ID: hibm97kCanadian Bacon, the documentary
ID: hif5qctThanks, I don't think anywhere near enough people realize this. Toys R Us didn't go out of business because it ran out of money or went bankrupt or in any way was no longer viable. Vultures simply destroyed it for a quick buck.
-
This really takes me back.
-
Fuck man...I never did get my Unicron figure...
-
I wish I kept my gameboy color.
-
shit man, this is so freaking cool. the 90’s were amazing lmao
-
Wait, we need to go back! I forgot something.
Can we turn around? I wanna go back.
-
Man the nostalgia in this photo. Those days are never coming back.
-
I actually bought my Yellow Game Boy Colour and Pokémon Yellow from a Toys R Us. Saved my paper route money up. Was so proud of myself for being able to afford it. Probably one of the biggest purchases I ever made at the time. Still have it and it still works.
-
All about that pokemon
-
If I could kill myself and go back to 1999 I would.
-
It was just such an awesome place to be in the 80's - 90's. Just when gaming consoles were coming out as well as all the traditional toys and Lego's.
-
this display would probably be a million dollars if that was today
-
Was called the ‘R’ Zone.
