- Lost PS4 Exclusive Confirmed to Return, Developer Regains Rights in Rare Deal with Sony
-
Regardless if you liked the game or not, Sony allowing the dev to obtain the IP is huge. Good move Sony. I like this.
-
Played the alpha, beta and main game. I enjoyed it but the game definitely needed more work on things and I hope they spend the time on that because fundamentally it was a very unique idea
-
Eh.
This was a game killed by the developers by doing the dumbest thing possible
Having a world where people need to cooperate to build a town and protect it.... That didn't have any form of communication and you could only get glimpses of other people.
The sad part is if they didn't make these kind of dumb decisions the game could have been great.
But your moment to moment gameplay was. Mine some stuff have someone steal it. Try to make something but can't because there is a line. Log out for the day. Try to log back in "the town you are trying to enter is full, want to start completely over in another town" delete game.
ID: hjxfr1dID: hjzaw1fOk that sounds even worse. Build this town....by yourself.
They need to add chat both text and voice. For communication
They need private towns. If I want a town with just my friends I should be able to make that
They need to always show other players instead of the stupid phasing shit they did. This was one of the number 1 complaints in the game. It was a co op game where you basically saw other players phase in and out of existence.
When you join a town it needs to be your main town and not lock you out unless you change.
You need to be able to save some resources and have them be private. One of the worst parts of the game was mining a bunch of stuff to make something then some dickhead taking it and making the exact wrong thing needed.
They need to get rid of the building mini game and the literal line for the crafting station thing.
The game was a fucking mess but still "just do it solo" seems even worse than what was there
ID: hjxaxtxReally? Long time ago I had this idea of a game exactly like this, I didn't even know this one existed until now.
So it turned out to be a dumb idea, lol.
ID: hjzbjieThe idea is great. Building a town and defending it is a great idea. And the game had moments of interesting fun
The developers made it so no one could communicate though.
No one could have their own stuff. You could realize you need, say, a turret. And go mine the material for it. And soon as you get back to the town some shithead take your stuff and make a useless building instead.
You could do 0 to stop this. You couldn't have private storage. You couldn't say "hey we need a turret"
And it was wierd because this guy stealing your stuff would literally appear. Take an item and disappear in game. It was like an invisible person was stealing your shit. Because they were.
ID: hjxwg8mSometimes those ideas can make interesting games.
Look up One Hour One Life on Steam. Not everything has to be neutered with QOL improvements constantly.
Just look at From Software games and how popular their unconventional approach to multiplayer is. Sure it makes the game less accessible but these ideas are what drives creative and interesting games.
We dont need every game to be the same and we should encourage games to be daring with their mechanics.
ID: hjydq2sFUCK THE INVASION MECHANIC
ID: hjzbslc1 hour 1 life is nothing like the tomorrow children was besides the basic goal being to form a society/town.
You don't literally phase in and out of existence in that game.
You can at least somewhat communicate in that game too.
ID: hjytomrHas One Hour One Life progressed far? I was really interested in the beginning, but I watched some gameplay a year in and it seemed to be at about the same technology level.
-
The game was far from perfect but I loved it. The multiplayer aspect definitely needed work but I enjoyed my time in the mines.
-
Good stuff, dedication like this from a developer generally leads to a great final product for consumers.
-
Sad Sony lost such a unique IP, but at least this game will hopefully get a second chance sooner and more chances being multi platform.
Sony also kept a good relationship by giving the IP for not using it, wonder if they saw the passion they had still for it.
ID: hjxfj4aThere's no reason for sadness. Dylan Cuthbert has always had a close relationship with PlayStation. That's why they relinquished the IP. Now he can breathe new life into game taking into account many of the criticisms from players.
-
Nice it’s cool to know this game is going to get a second chance, I’ll be waiting!
-
I was kicking myself when this closed down before I could try it out, but now I can stop.
-
I loved it.
For those of you worried about the negatives of this game, Dylan Cuthbert, the director, said if the game came out again they would take out the grinding, F2P monetization of the game. Also says that “I am now tweaking and re-working parts of the game every week".
They're not going to let this game slip away again, they HAVE to do major changes.
-
Now give owners of the original game 50% off the next game as a good will gesture for shutting down the game as quick as they did and not offering any single player.
-
The Sacred Symbols podcast just interviewed Dylan about this topic. It's crazy that it happened. I'm curious what will happen to this IP now that online won't have to be shoehorned in.

Making a game with a Marxist theme at the core of its gameplay mechanics might seem like a great idea to explore on paper, but it made for a largely unsatisfactory gaming experience. Specialising in job roles is nothing new, but the way it was setup meant all you could ever do is specialise in one very limited and specific task, and leave the rest of the gameplay loop to others.
Simulation / Minecraft like games all work by giving you the player a lot of power and control, and especially a lot of personalisation. None of these things were true for The Tomorrow Children, so now the the devs are bringing it back, I hope they address these things.
Oh, and if you do not care for sliding tile puzzles, stay away from this game. One of the deliberately menial co-op tasks is doing sliding tile puzzles. Over and over and over and over again.
Technically speaking, the game is superb. One of the few (and I do mean few) games of last gen that used a ray tracing lighting system (voxel cone ray tracing).
As for Sony, they've done this before. When they parted ways with Tequila on their project RIME, they allowed the devs to buy back the IP and release it themselves. This hopefully means they would do the same for Wild Sheep Studios and their game WiLD, but we don't know the current status of the studio.
-
I fucking loved this game. It definitely needed some more time in the oven but it had so much potential! Im glad it’s coming back!
-
Wow, I was sad that this game would never see the light of day again as I really enjoyed how surreal and unique it was. Really looking forward to playing it again.
-
Looks like it should’ve stayed lost

Dylan Cuthbert has said before that he wants to make it so you can do it solo
