Every time someone asks this, they always use Ryan. That's a TERRIBLE example imo. Maybe he was a hypocrite and sacrificed his high and mighty morals because he was being outplayed by Fontane. The man wasn't perfect and made mistakes sure.
But he wasn't the VILLAIN imo. I mean Fontane was the villain and they were enemies. Maybe he would become villainous more if he wasn't so outplayed and with more time. Maybe. But not necessarily imo. The way that I interpreted the end when we kill him is.... sad honestly. For all his flaws, he still could have been an ally vs Fontane with us.

See, this is what I don't get about you bad guys. You know the hero's gonna win, but you never just die quickly-- man, this one guy in New Haven, right? City's burning, people dying, blah blah blah. This guy rushes me with a spoon. A fricking spoon. And I'm just laughing. So I scoop out his eyeballs with it, and his kids are all, "aghhhhh!,” and, ah...you had to be there.
