As we know the RE movie is upon us. And all I really wanted to know is: Are you going to go see it? Why or why not?
I am very curious to see how opinions have changed since the initial scoops, trailers, up until now.
I have seen a good handful of people who are very excited, but also some who are absolutely against it. Also with some understandable criticisms. For some of the negative takes though, I wonder why? The ones that seem almost "boycott-ish" (for lack of better term) are ones that are super surprising to me. Especially when they flaunt the "real RE fan" title. It's really odd.
I just want to know what people think here.
In my perspective, I think the movie isn't going to be good narratively but I'm still going to go watch it for the experience. Honestly I would urge others to do the same. Especially as proclaimed RE fans. It's not often that I get to say I've been to theaters to watch a Resident Evil movie. The thing that excites me the most is being in an environment with other RE fans. Why would people want to miss out on that? If the film is totally bad then at least you were there to laugh about it and say that you got to see it live. If it is good then you have the right to say you were there.
All I'm saying is that the super negative comments seem foolish. Especially in the things they say. Obviously the movie wasn't going to be a complete faithful recreation. You really can't do that no matter how good the director and team is. Resident Evil Games aren't easily translatable to the silver screen without it being something original. The docking on the actors is somewhat meh. I don't know I just find the backlash a little exaggerated, but it's also probably the nature of the fandom in general. I'm not defending the film being a total success either since I don't trust it myself, but I think it's an event I don't want to miss. I feel a sort of obligation to see it following the franchise for so long. Plus as much as I don't want to get any live action RE movies anymore I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see a possible Code Veronica adaption lmao
All in all how have your views on the film changed? I am interested to know. Why are you gonna go see it or why aren't you? What excites you and what disappoints you? If you're on the fence then I reccomend you just go for it. It's very rare that there's an opportunity like this. There's some fun to be had. Maybe I'll see you there, cheers.

I am excited for the movie.
There are some changes that still baffle me. Especially since they faithfully recreated sets and monsters but then some characters outfits look nothing like their game counterpart.
However knowing it's not going to be as accurate as the game and going in with an open mind will help to accept it for what it is. Should be a fun popcorn movie.
Personally I would have loved to see a a more faithful adaption in a 10 ep series based on the fall of Raccoon City.

Not in theaters. I don't go to the movies anymore. I hate the experience. I would rather watch movies at home. No annoying people.

I'll wait and stream it. However long that takes, that's fine.

I'm excited for it, but I might wait till it's on PVOD. Haven't gone to a theater since the pandemic started and I've gotten spoiled by my home setup haha
ID: hlknmcyThat's really cool. A good home set up sounds cozy. Just watch for spoilers if you care about that sorta thing

I’m honestly unsure. I’m not a big fan of jump scares in the cinema (I’m fine at home as it’s not as loud) so first I kinda want to know if there are too many of those. If it’s not too big on jump scares and word of mouth from fans is decent I’ll check it out. I like Evil Dead movies a lot and generally like horror when done well but it all does depend on what fans think etc.

RE was not meant to be made into a movie series. The goofy characters and stories only work as a game.
Also I heard they made Leon into a bumbling idiot, so any interest I had going to the theater is gone. I may catch it on streaming when it’s free.
ID: hlkg6tiI too heard that Leon was a disaster in the film unfortunately, but I still have yet to see it to know for sure. The only thing I like about this Leon iteration is that it makes it easier for me to cosplay as Leon with the hair and stubble

I'm gonna see it instead of being one of the idiots that calls it complete trash based on a sub minute teaser (literally). If it's bad, it's bad. If it's good, it's good. I don't care, I just like to actually think for myself instead of immediately hating on everything like a few of the people in here.

Will be watching it and enjoying it for what it is.
The cast they greenlit had me throw away any idea Welcome to Raccoon City was made by fans.
ID: hlkgqgoYeah. And at the very least, spotting easter eggs should make it enjoyable to some extent.

Looks like it takes place in spencers mansion and several key locations in raccoon city let's take a look at how Chris looks he always changes games and movies can they not decide how he looks?
ID: hlkgjsvChris I think is one of their best casting choices. I only wish they had gone for a more accurate outfit, but I don't mind what we got

I’m excited to watch it on Thursday, it can’t be worse than Anderson’s so called “Resident Evil” movies. Welcome to Raccoon City at least looks like a straight up Horror movie, that tries to look like the games ecstatically and not some repetitive Action movie that pulled their own thing like Paul Anderson’s RE movies did.
ID: hlklsbsOne of the main motivators for me. There's just no way this film ends up being worse than the Anderson films. To this day I'm still struggling to know how it spawned 6 of them.

I’ll wait for it to get streamed

I don't think it needs to exist, really. I might watch it when it's free in a couple months if I'm bored. It is just shaping up to be a fanservice fest for people with low expectations.
ID: hlkmooiWell it doesn't, but the fanservice could still be a good thing. It's one of those things that helped make REvelations 2 an awesome game.
Also, if you're on about a "fanservice fest for people with low expectations" then you in particular should be all over the film given how you feel about RE6
ID: hlkp5e7Lol, I knew I'd get a snarky little comment on my flair :p
What fans did 6 service, exactly? It had 4 major recurring characters to most games' 2 or 3 and it sexualised women. That is basically the extent of it. 6 actively attempted to break out of its mould and into other potential demographics in an action game market. Trying to please everybody is the opposite of fanservice. Also, "low expectations"; you probably aren't old enough to remember the marketing campaign but it was hyped up by capcom to hell and back.

One of the things that confuses me is no ponytail Claire. It's something so small of a change yet significant to the look. I wonder why they couldn't tie her hair back but whatever. And yeah I see this as a B grade horror film.
I agree. If they had to keep making live action material I'd rather see Outbreak style scenarios of people struggling to survive in Raccoon City, or other things along those lines. They could sprinkle main RE stuff without worrying about "ruining" the source. Or a series of completely original stories set/tied in with the RE world
