Had theses since pretty much launch and they still do the job, can run older games at 4k ultra and new stuff at 2k medium without too much bother but starting to show their age. Wanted to get opinions on this since I haven't kept up with the market in a fair while and it's currently an unholy fustercluck to put it bluntly.
I'm vaguely aware of the situation with shortages, scalpers and delays. Is it even worth bothering at the moment or are we very much in ride out the storm territory? Obviously don't urgently need to upgrade but I am aware it'll have to be sooner rather than later. I doubt the upcoming cyber monday will be of any use but seemed pertinent to ask about now. So what do people reckon for GPU's at the moment? I'm UK based.
Any advice is much appreciated so thanks in advance.

That would have been last Fall - you're a year late.
-
The GPU supply and demand issue will likely last another year, if not longer. I'd wait till after the holiday season, as both AMD and Nvidia and Intel will be releasing some new cards in the next couple of months, and demand may slightly fall since people will be buying gifts and according to studies Americans rack up a few hundred in credit card debt for the holidays that takes them a few months to pay off.

It's not worth shit right now. The GPU are sparse and costs way to much. MSRP like 800€ goes for almost 1500 right now.
Wait for the next gen and/till the market has normal prices again.
And don't sell any GPU - I still have my fury as reserve, if my main goes boom 🙂
ID: hmiw6inYeah does feel like you've got the right idea, pricing is bloody insane currently. I'll definitely be waiting, don't mind spending a lot for something powerful but not just pissing money up a wall.
Hopefully neither go boom and I don't need to. 🙂

At this point you're better off continuing to use your graphics cards until one of the following conditions are met:
Both of them fail. They won't do what you need them to do. The situation improves.ID: hmiwxe7Fingers crossed its the latter before they both shuffle off this mortal coil.

Check pcpartpicker:
Among the 4K viable GPUs (RX6800 and up, RTX 3080 and up) probably the cards closest to the MSRP are the 6900XT variants. Buying an RX6800 for 1k quid makes no sense when the 6900xt is 1200 quid.
On the Nvidia side, 3080 starts from £1.3k as of now, for a card that's slower and has 6GB less VRAM than Navi21 based GPUs. I'd personally not bother unless you need CUDA.
ID: hmj1hetOooh part picker never compared prices from retailers when I built this, that's really useful to know. I'll definitely keep an eye on that and probably start building my wishlist for the next upgrade. Feeling like you're right with pricing the way it is currently I'm leaning towards 6900XT assuming it stays similar once things settle. Thanks mate.
Nvidia's pricing was always jank as fuck even before the shortage so doesn't surprise me on that front.

Its not worth bothering until AMD implements a real queue... kinda like Sony that now has for the PS5 (requires a verified active PSN account and bases queue position on account history and use).
If you are getting by on the Furys stick with them... maybe aim for an AM5 + RNDA3 system towards the end of 2022 / mid 2023 just accumulating the parts as you can get them. Also RNDA3 should have a more scalable MCM GPU solution if you want to go the high end route again and it will be on a single card unlike your dual Fury setup which only scales in some situations.
ID: hmiwo1hLot of good stuff to research in here, thanks dude. As for the scalability crossfire was a bigger deal when I got the two of them. Generation after it pretty much died cause single cards cut it and 2 just wasn't necessary anymore. Still brute force most games and only sometimes it's a hindrance. But you are right having better future scalability would be nice since I think im gonna have to upgrade the mobo/RAM/CPU as well.
Really don't know why AMD doesn't have a proper queue system, even looking at their own website and it's showing "retail prices" and links to other sites I.e. double what it should be.

Get an RX 6800 at the least
-
For 4K get a 6800 XT or 6900 XT, would be a great replacement.
-
Anything but amd cards they can't make a driver to save their kids lives
-
Think of an Asus G513QY advantage edition laptop. Costs about the same as a 6800XT but has a 6700XT-level GPU, 8-core CPU, some RAM, SSD and whatnot.

Yeah thats makes a lot of sense. Was looking around at pricing it just all seemed surreal. Ill keep an eye out in the new year but at least I'm able to wait another year if need be. Thanks for your help.
