The real tragedy is that Rebecca could have just played the piece again, so there was no point for Chris picking up the fake emblem.

I think the puzzle is tied to an emblem actually being set in place, so if Chris took the hidden emblem without swapping it for the other one, then Rebecca playing the piano would not open the door.
