- Props to indie developers who aren't a part of this trend

Or just don’t buy any of those. There are thousands of other games on steam alone.
ID: hph94qsID: hphcc4lWhere? It's $11.20 on steam here in canada.
ID: hphgtzbWitcher 3 is a game that is actually worth 60 bucks too.
ID: hph9cbmThat’s what I’ve been playing along with terraria when I can’t get into FF14.
ID: hphct5yA huge number of great games are absolutely free too. I pretty much exclusively play Apex and Rocket League nowadays, both of which are completely free to play.
ID: hphdtedWait rocket league is free i bought that
ID: hphgrsxAnd you can get most great AAA games on massive sales anyways. I think I paid like 10-15 bucks for the The Witcher 3 with DLC (which is so good I almost feel guilty lol).
Skyrim with DLC has been available on and off for years at deep sale prices.
Honestly most of those games on the right (other than Skyrim) are things I would never play (even for free) anyways

I actually really liked Assassins Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6. I mean, they aren't the best things ever, but very fun and enjoyable. If nothing else, they are one of the few single player AAA franchises still pushing onward. Nice to just enjoy a story and open world without needing to rely on xxXsupersimonXxx being in a good mood that day. They are also more or less future proof. You can still play every Assassins Creed and Far Cry because they don't rely on needing an active player base. I know they aren't perfect. But for what they are, I really don't think they deserve the yearly "modern games bad" title.

“New games bad” because of a handful of bad releases
“Old games good” with cherry picked games
“Indie games saving the industry” as if there aren’t hundreds of dogshit indie games
The holy trinity of an
bandwagon circlejerk postID: hphe50xI'm just tired of people being so negative, it's really draining.
ID: hpheqcoI don’t mind people being negative if it’s actually warranted but this whole “modern gaming is dead” shit because of a few bad releases recently is really annoying
ID: hpheityI wish there was a gaming sub for people who actually like and are enthusiastic about games and gaming.
ID: hpheut8I’ll happily pay for the new one of some of those games. I bet OP and many other karma hunters haven’t even played most of them
ID: hphhwh1You forgot
“Single-player games aren’t dead.” posts, despite single player games never went away. There was, and still is always a steady stream of good single player games every year.
“People who say video games music isn’t real music.” posts. Literally no one says that.
Also adds on “Exclusives bad, unless it’s Nintendo.” to complete another trinity of circle jerk.
ID: hphll6cDon't forget all of the variations on "gamers are so persecuted".
ID: hphgu03Shit is pathetic
ID: hphh215Games are better than ever - I'm 45 years old and have been PC gaming since the days of 4 color (and even monochrome) monitors. If you aren't loving what's out there currently you are playing the wrong games.
Really, the only bad thing is that I'll never have time in my life to play all the great games I'd love to.
ID: hphhftfBeen playing games since the 90’s and most of the best games I’ve ever played are less than 5 years old. For some reason this sub thinks FIFA, COD and Battlefield represent the entire modern games industry
ID: hphi8xxlets not forget that the orange box was all valve and they are far from an indie developer lol they just hardly ever make anything anymore now that they have steam.
ID: hphicgoSturgeon's Law - 90% of everything is crap. We just select out the 90% from the collective discussion, unless it's crap made by big companies, in which case we mock it mercilessly.

Ah yes, because older games didn't have bugs either, and every indie game is perfect on release and also actually get out of early access.
ID: hphl726I just remembered the glorious days it took me to get this OrangeBox activated through Steam. When it worked eventually, it had to download gigabytes of updates and it was sooooo slow. Steam was so incredibly annoying at that time. Also OrangeBox felt like theft at the beginning. I only wanted to buy HL2:Episode2 and not all the other games, but I had to. It payed out in the end. Portal was amazing, TF2 was at well. And Steam is still alive.
ID: hphjsbtOlder games were more polished, while today they just release games in broken states to fix it with patches
ID: hphk29hSomeone didn’t play old games - or needs to put down the nostalgia pipe.
-
Inflation exists and 14 years is a long time
-
Yep, no bugs in tf2.
-
Imagine being so utterly disconnected from gaming news that you think the only possible game purchases on the table in 2021 are Skyrim, GTA, FIFA, Assassin’a Creed, CoD or BF.
This is what happens when people convince themselves that all games media/journalism is corrupt/should be ignored. They think they’re gaining some new, unblinkered perspective on the games industry, but they’re actually just proudly wallowing in their utter ignorance about what games are out there.
ID: hphh7coHello kindred spirit that's also fed up with all the "games journalists bad" takes. I thought I was alone, but no more.
-
My biggest gaming mistake was to take back to the store a sealed copy of The Orange Box I received as a gift because I found the cover uninteresting. I exchanged it for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End) on Xbox360. I was 11 years old and dumb. The game wasn't bad at all, but I really missed something amazing that I discovered much later.

Right now on PSN you can get like 6 top quality games for $50 GOW is $10 Doom is $6 Dragonball Fighterz is $9. MGSV definitive is $5. There's about 20 other games around that price range to choose from.
-
The Gaming sub should be renamed "salt"
-
False choice
-
If you have issues spending $60 on any of those games then you need to play the previous ones to see if you like them
-
Leave Skyrim out of this you whiny fuck.
-
Honestly though Farcry 6 was pretty good
-
There have never been more affordable, high quality games available than today.
Gamerpass, steam etc. will get you sooooo many great games. We are past the time of exponential improvement of games, where a 3 yr old game is unplayable by today's standards. That's not even considering the huge affordable indie market that did not exist until relatively recently. At this point the "AA" gap that we created in the previous gen has been filled with top-quality indie content.

I just bought all valve games for 13$
-
I can understand buying reskin/remasters of skyrim, gta, farcry, AC, CoD or battlefield, but I can't understand for the life of me why someone would buy a FIFA every year.
ID: hphkxioSame reason people buy the new cod every year. It’s basically a huge update and they’ll spend hundreds of hours playing it
-
The term “indie developers” doesn’t mean what it did in 2007, the landscape and business model has changed and a lot of you guys longing for the past don’t seem to understand how things work today, the label “indie” the way it was meant in 2007 that a lot of you would slap on game devs today is barely applicable in almost all of the cases you’d want to use it
Also don’t buy those games, they wouldn’t keep doing the same shit if you guys didn’t give them your money for it
-
Again I will say it this year far cry wasn’t that buggy on launch so it seems that you don’t play any of these games and just assume things
-
That's just big aaa games. Try looking for games from small studios that's not published by big publishers.
I found this cool game called gunfire reborn. Super awsome first person shooter.
ID: hphilz0Its not even AAA games. Its the bad AAA games that are picked to let modern gaming look bad against cherrypicked old games to farm karma. Its not like there were no bad games back then
-
That's why I just play A Link to the Past on my 3DSxl.
-
Tf2 is free to download
ID: hphfyqoNow it is. It wasn't in 2007
-
Stop buying games from shitty publishers.
I don't feel bad for anyone who buys that garbage.
-
Ouch. This one hurts

I just got Witcher 3 for $2
