- You cannot play Diablo 2 resurrected after 30 days of being offline, one of the first console games to feature check in drm.
-
There is piracy on consoles to warrant this bullshit?
ID: ht5zw8yID: ht6mr6xThey do this check as well on the Nintendo Switch version of Diablo II. It’s a 1 file bypass.
You’re right in saying the legit people will be the only ones affected by this.
ID: ht6zh9eIts like those unskippable anti-piracy ads on DVDs/blu-rays (back in the days) - great concept to just punish those who don't just pirate the movie.
ID: ht5n30mOn PS4 there is, but it's incredibly rare. No other console can be pirated for that is current or last gen.
Edit: Forgot about the Switch for a second. Anyone who really really wants to pirate games can do it nowadays, but requires buying a modchip or a launch model Switch. Even the new OLED model can be exploited.
ID: ht5ugajI know there are dedicated people who homebrew Early Switches but Emulation on PC seems like the main method of piracy for that system.

I’m old enough to remember when Blizzard was THE premiere game company. Not the goddamn horror show they’ve become.
ID: ht65851So Guild Wars 2 is a great WoW alternative (though it dropped Mac support - FUCK). Path of Exile, Torchlight, and Lost Ark are apparently good Diablo alts.
What about Starcraft 2? Is there a really strong alternative there?
++ + + + + + +
EDIT: Microsoft just announced it's acquiring Activision Blizzard. So there's that.
ID: ht65xrjWhat about Starcraft 2? Is there a really strong alternative there?
Not really.
Closest you could get to sort of feeling like SC2 would probably be Planetary Annihilation, but there aren't really any fast-paced/uber-macro alternatives.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all in for them.
ID: ht65smkLiterally every other mmo, that's at some point been "killed" by wow, has come back with amazing strength. Guildwars is doing great, especially with their new communication promises. FF14 is literally shutting down sales because they can't handle that many people playing. ESO is really fun to play, just needs a bit more organization when it comes to patch size. Wow is the only one that's stuck in 2008, with every single system that's currently in the game looking like something from a pay to win mobile game, than an mmo you buy to play, and then also have a subscription for
-
Thanks Fucktivison-Blizass for reminding us you're the worst.
ID: ht6cl60May Microsoft have an positive impact on them
ID: ht72nh0The truth is Phil just reached his 30 days without being able to connect to the broken servers and he said “fuck this” so he just went and bought them.
ID: ht6cq0gThat's an unexpected move
ID: ht5m9vilool
ID: ht7h4ejIf fuckactivision-blizass gonna stay shitty, maybe we didnt miss out on much with microsoft buying them.
-
And with that its off my wish list
ID: ht5m2a7If you want a second reason, there's no couch co op.
ID: ht5pum9What the fuck.
ID: ht5ok0rFuck sake
-
Uhm... what? I'm not sure I understand
ID: ht5hb3eI think it goes like this: if you have no Internet connection while playing D2R, for 30 days, then you no longer are able to play D2R until you boot the game up with an Internet connection.
It seems the game has DRM for no reason than to essentially be an "always online" title.
I wonder if this will change for when the servers are inevitably taken offline.
ID: ht5nsvfThat's fucking stupid. But I wouldn't expect better from those assholes.
-
And of course it's Activision Blizzard. Kings of the "who can we fuck over next"
-
Inb4 people come up with the mental gymnastics to defend this
ID: ht63yqbBruh come on. You have to eliminate all possibilities of piracy so that the CEO can afford the Weissach package for his new fleet of Skittles coloured Porsches.
ID: ht5lzgvWhere’s my popcorn
ID: ht5ur9vOkay I may be going insane, but why in the world would Acti-Blizz implement DRM for the consoles if it meant that it would single-handedly only hurt the consumer with no saving grace? Aren't acts like these actually illegal?
ID: ht5nrfqsorts by controversial
ID: ht6cmocDefend it? I'm too busy wracking my brain to figure out why anyone would even implement something like this. As in, what practical purpose does it serve? What benefit to the publisher does it even provide to disable software after X days of it not "checking in"?
Just.. why??
-
Wasn’t that something people fought against back when the Xbox One was online only?!
ID: ht60ap0Yup, seems like Microsoft simply was 8 year too early on this.
Now many publishers seem to go for these awful practices and face little backlash.
-
There goes my interest.
Also, fuck you Activision Blizzard
-
Cool. Not like I’d ever buy a Blizzard product anyway. They’ve been a shit company for basically the last decade.
-
surely this is a joke or satire
-
Why add this in after this long? Looks like my Diablo characters will be offline only now. Or I'll just resign Diablo to a thing of the past.
ID: ht5ralbSo they can't get criticism from players and reviews at launch.
ID: ht5vp7dIf I understand this correctly, you cannot even play offline characters after being offline for 30 days.
ID: ht5xu4jYeah, offline only is not possible after 30 days…
-
Thank you. A new reason to not to purchase it. Think I’ll add some points to your way.
-
LOL.... Seriously?
ID: ht5ujw9See even UkraineGirlChat gets it.
F u Activision.
-
Pretty crazy. I do not understand the logic. Always online? BS!
-
Just don’t buy Blizzard products right now. They aren’t clean.
-
Is this just for co sole or pc too? Like never get online again or you just have to make a new character? How fucking bogus
-
Troll or suicidal move from the developers.
-
i mean y'all bought a Blizzard game, that ones on you
-
I was so tempted to buy this as a recovering D2 addict. Glad I didn't.
-
Well now I've gone from waiting for a sale to removing it from my wishlist entirely.
-
Wow that sucks

The thing is it says it can be removed with hacks, so as usual it's the legit people that get punished.
