- Days gone was released in 2019, what's deacons saying is common sense but it was cool seeing it in the game.
-
It's like the USA prison system was bastardized into free/cheap labor camps as opposed to systems of reform. So, the people they get in become labor horses and the law gets a little extra cheddar for feeding them more "staff"

Him attending a wedding ceremony as a groom with the same outfit really bothered me lol
Tho im not familiar with our fellow bikers wedding tradition in real life, im pretty sure they dont wear their same casual clothes to the ocassion lol, they probably have different clothes or suit with designs while maintaining their identity as a group. or just normal wedding attire altogether!
Its just a minor whine from me, it didnt affect my experience at all, Deacon just really stood out there at first lol

ID: hw5rfd9My friend and his wife got married one day during lunch. They left their respective jobs, met at city hall, and got married in their daily work clothes. They had lunch and went back to their jobs. I asked him why no formal clothes, why no big crowd, no big ceremony, etc.
He said that he and his lady simply didn’t care about any of that. He didn’t care because that’s just how he always felt, and she didn’t care because it was her second marriage. She’d already had the fancy princess wedding with her first husband.
Oddly enough, she did demand a $9,000 ring from my friend.
ID: hw5mjh5A college fraternity buddy of mine was in a big four club in California. He wore a suit at his wedding. His crew from his chapter wore dress shirts and dress pants with a motorcycle club vest. So, you are correct. They do dress up a bit and still rep their club with a vest.
ID: hw6dv5jWent to a funeral where the bikers lead the ceremony. Just nicer shirts and more attention to grooming the breads and hair. They wore their vests and jeans.
So, I think the game is closer to the truth than them wearing suits.
ID: hw5gm2zThe whole game is full of stupid bullshit like that lol, really hard to take it seriously.
ID: hw94lcaAs someone who’s brother was in an mc I can clarify a little. For a funeral they will be in full vest and everything, this is usually coincided with the entirety of the mc going in a ride with the funeral procession to the gravesite, but all this also depends on what the family and what the person wanted. My brother wanted a full ride through flint and got it. Weddings are kinda the same if you’re in the wedding it depends on what they want but if the mc is going just to be there It’s pretty normal to have the full vest and stuff on. Hope this helps a little.

The lesson of the real pandemic we are living through is that the prison population would largely be ignored and/or left to be infected. The most likely outcome would be that virtually everyone imprisoned before this outbreak would be a freaker or left rotting in a cell.
But also the logic that everyone imprisoned in America would just automatically become a murderer is, uh, pretty flawed.
ID: hw5vw2qYeah, I mean, isn't almost half of the prison population nonviolent offenders? Some dude who was selling weed or cheating his taxes isn't necessarily going to just start raping and murdering people at the drop of a hat.
ID: hw5z6sxThe number also includes ~500k people who haven't even been convicted. Not to mention that Deacon doesn't just limit this to incarcerated people but people out on parole and probation!
His argument is essentially that anyone who has ever committed a crime "didn't give a shit about the law," and that's why there is violence in the apocalypse - because of those people.
Oh also, Deacon's backstory is that he's literally a "former" outlaw.
This whole thread lines up with a general theory I have which is that whenever someone tries to sell you something as being common sense, it's usually some pretty stupid shit if you take more than a millisecond to think about it.
ID: hw5gsg7But also the logic that everyone imprisoned in America would just automatically become a murderer is, uh, pretty flawed.
It's the "grimdark" assumption about people, something that it mostly American.
In real life, the rule through history has not been chaos and murderers roaming the streets taking what they want. But rather, it's has been peace by the sword, violently enforced order and stability by one empire or another.
People will always give up their freedom for safety when they're scared, and always kneel before a king or emperor who can give them that safety.
They'd rather see Legionaries walking the streets than murdering bandits.
That's what our current time is an exception to, not chaos, but empire.
ID: hw6gkv6I'd wager most white collar criminals wouldn't be that dangerous in this scenario. Also people imprisioned for stupid shit like drug possession or some other victimless crime. But that isn't necessarily what's implied here.
He's saying that a shit-ton of people never cared about their fellow-man enough when things were normal, so why would they start when the world has gone to shit?. So many good people turned into killers and thieves out of the sheer desire to stay alive. People with compromised morals probably started killing, raping, and stealing on day one.
This was just a reflexion on how violent american society is. Not necessairily a shot at people serving time.

ID: hw4rfo2I played it for the first time on PS5 and it was generally smooth as hell and looked beautiful. I had one glitch where the entire floor disappeared and it never came back lol, but other than that it was great.
ID: hw4yvtbThey've patched most of the problems since it was released. I played it around the time covid started. I absolutely loved it. I definitely recommend it. Mostly for the zombie hordes.
ID: hw59jt6it's an underrated gem. The learning curve is pretty brutal and you're severely underpowered/ ill-equipped at first, but as the game progresses and you get more experienced things balance out really well.
ID: hw56sldI am playing it for the 1st time on PS5 now. It runs smooth, maps load pretty fast, maybe 5~10 seconds. In general the game runs smooth, only very infrequent shutter when riding on motorcycle and the shutter was very brief. 40 hours in, haven't ran into any glitches yet.
40 hours I am only about half way through (did too many side missions. it wasn't clear how to advance the main story) but my review so far is mixed leaning good. It's enjoyable to play but not top tier. Riding motorcycle is fun. Sneak attack is quit easy to attain and feels good. Zombies really threatens you but with the right approach you can manage them.
My main complains are, firearm weapons feel underpowered if you don't get headshots. Crafted melee weapons are powerful but swings slow and with low durability. Throwable like pipe bombs and molotovs have extremely small explosion radius. Throwable attractor (makes noise to attract zombies) doesn't work well because the zombies can see/hear me throw it and part of the horde would come after me instead of the attractor.
And the main story and characters. They are... barely tolerable. The dialogs feel like they are from cheesy teen movies. The dev's seemingly have an obsession with body tattoos because many characters have some tattoos. The main characters are covered in ink.
ID: hw5ce1pReally good, you will enjoy it.
ID: hw53xj4I loved it on PS5

Ok but you’re making everyone in prisons out to be killers and psychopaths but that just isn’t true.
-
1 in 35 is still a really low number. Then how many of those are simple minor marijuana offences (lol). Also not like US has privatised prison systems- yep that has nothing to do with it. Oh and racism too. Then the number is maybe close to 1 in 50 who are rotten but by no means destabilising for the rest of society
ID: hw563z3Thank you! Came here to say the same. And thank you OP for confirming that the writing in this game is as low effort as people have said it is. (Not saying that it’s not a good game or anything, but I have heard from a lot of friends who enjoy it that the writing is CW show tier lol)
ID: hw8eloaIdk why you're being downvoted, because you're right lol

Except, no, the way movies always show post-apocalyptic society is basically bullshit.
Anarchy always gives rise to dictatorship. At least for the length of recorded history (and probably for a lot longer) people will always trade their freedom for safety.
Why do you think the breadth of history is full of massive empires? People will line up behind someone who will enforce order and stability, even if that person is a monster.
When and if the collapse comes, it'll be chaos for about 5 minutes and then someone will come along playing Alexander and violently enforce order.
That's how it's really always been, and will be. Modern liberal democracy is still an exception. But it's not an exception to chaos, but an exception to the rule of Empire.
-
Because over 50% of inmates. That doesn’t include those out on parole. Are non violent offenders and “laws” aren’t always moral. You can get a felony for someone leaving their legal prescription in your car. You don’t even have to test positive or even have knowledge they’re in there.
-
Lol this fuckin sucks. Going to jail for smoking weed (or just being black) doesn't mean you "don't give a shit about the law".
-
I remember this convo. It creeped me out. Im not one of those people.
-
I just finished this game today, absolutely loved it.
-
Obviously the writers of Days Gone --who aren't half as clever as they think they are-- have never heard of non-violent offenders (including non-violent drug offenders), for-profit prisons and the local / state law enforcement / judiciary who have quotas (and their own profit motives) to see those for-profit prisons full, racial and economic profiling, minimum security & "white collar" criminals...
But no, apparently every one of them is Simon Phoenix from Demolition Man or Mickey Knox from Natural Born Killers; mindless killing machines and serial murderers.
ID: hw65h8nHe’s a member of a biker gang with no real education. They wrote him perfectly. He’s not supposed to be dropping super educated philosophical facts.
ID: hw8eymiYou're right, but it can make character pretty unlikable

This is a 10 year old's idea of how the justice system works
-
I don’t know. I was bored after 3 hours of playing and deleted it for good.
ID: hw65oy4It doesn’t really pick up till like 4-5 hours into the game. The game is pretty long. The hordes are the best part and they’re in the second half of the story mode
-
A lot of those are doing time because of stuff like weed smoking, because america is backwards.
Some of those in jail was because of racist cops.
-
Wow…what an incredibly nuanced take about the American prison industrial complex.
-
This game deserves a sequel
-
Stupid game
ID: hw7emrpTrue
-
This explains every post apocalyptic human conflicts ever, it makes a lot of sense
ID: hw6179tIt's not true-to-life at all. "every post apocalyptic human conflict ever" is just a retelling of the American fantasy of the wild west.
-
I still need to finish Days Gone.
ID: hw62ae7It’s a good game
ID: hw7ekjqI disagree

I'm impressed he can run at that pace and hold a conversation without huffing & puffing, or even pausing for breaths.

use the tommy gun later in the game

I’ve platt the game recently and this quote is quite interesting to say the least

If this game wasnt released with all its glitches many people wouldve called it a masterpiece

It's like the USA prison system was bastardized into free/cheap labor camps as opposed to systems of reform.
That's what happened in former confederate states post Civil War, once slavery was abolished (but not really). Politicians in charge simply made new bullshit laws targeted at blacks / former slaves (e.g. making it illegal to be black and unemployed - no joke) wherein they were basically slaves again, only "legally"; now they were criminals, working for little to no money in prisons.
Fast forward, now we have American corporations in bed with US prisons, using prisoners as slave labor.
