OP and another user talk about what a great location the photo is taken in, but neither mention the location. This leads to:
How have you both discussed it and not actually said where it is. People need to know.
Cue a lengthy rant by another user about how wrong that question is:
Nobody owes you this information... Waahhh the internet isn't giving me free handouts waahhh
The location IS included in the title. This location is the "Snowy Cathedral". And if the OP doesn't feel like saying more, then that's too bad for you. They don't owe anyone the coordinates of something they posted.
If anyone is incapable of doing the most basic research, then they should maybe find something else to do with their time because doing research and finding stuff is 99% of the hobby. Unfortunately most people aren't willing to put in the time to find stuff and instead beg for others to give them handouts like where is this and how do I get in, etc. Get out in the world, take risks and find out yourself, like the people who went there did.
-
I'd agree that "Snowy Cathedral" isn't a location, the same way posting "A bird" isn't a location
ID: gpxzeyhID: gpzgocs"snowed bird" is what you're looking for.
ID: gpzkw9bWell if course bird can't be a location because /
.ID: gpzsddeImagine thinking a location can’t be called Snowy Cathedral when the US has Grand Rapids, Oceanside, Casa Grande(big house in Spanish) and like 5 whole ass cities named Springfield
-
Every time something awesome is posted in public urbex forums, all the lazy noobs beg for the location.
I don't get why this is a problem. If you don't feel like helping, just move on to something else.
ID: gpy460oSome people will jump at any opportunity to shit on someone. It's a pretty harmless question and answer. If he wasn't upset about this I'm sure it'd be something equally trivial.
He also seems mentally ill or something. He thinks the location is in the title "snowy cathedral". But that is a description, not a location.
ID: gpytqwcRemember the shark in formadehyle, the OP told the location and it was destroyed shortly after. Honestly, I understand why someone dont want to reveal the location, but dont need to be an asshole about it
ID: gq07v2mLocations get destroyed quickly if located to others which is a legitimate concern in the community. My personal theory though is at the same time it's very likely people are just finding these pictures on the internet and do not actually know the location or context, and post them for karma. Faking stuff for karma is extremely common on this site. People respond very poorly when they get caught. It's likely this is contributing to the crazy over the top toxic responses.
ID: gpzdjs7In urbexing you aren't supposed to post the location to everyone because then people who don't follow the code of ethics might end up going there and ruining it for everyone. For some places the police and locals are willing to not pay too much attention to that abandoned building that people occasionally go into, but if people start wrecking the place then they will start keeping an eye out for urbexers.
Some forums have different levels of membership that you can graduate to after showing you won't trash the noob places or attract too much attention. It's just how it has to be or else all the good places will be way more off-limits.
ID: gpxout4The less people know, the longer it lasts.
ID: gpz6s1hI know this sub loves to be high and mighty about literally any drama but not giving out locations has been a thing in urbex since the start. If you can't respect that, and their dedication to protecting locations then you're kinda an asshole.
ID: gq0cegt. If you don't feel like helping, just move on to something else.
This is at least 30% of the problem with the internet. If something doesn't interest you, don't pay attention to it.
Every subreddit has monthly posts where people ask that certain banal content be banned, because apparently a newbie asking a question is such an imposition to have to scroll past.
Seriously, these people can't be living fulfilling lives.
ID: gq22ak6In a decent portion of the community it's either an unspoken or actual written rule that you do not ask for the location and you do not post them.
Especially not publicly for every one to see.
Because of this rule thats obvious a lot of new comers get put on blast regularly for not knowing. -
“Do you engage in urban exploration yourself? It sounds like you do not. Hence your complete and utter confusion on the matter.”
Lmaoooooooo
ID: gpziessI think I found my flair...
Edit: too long 🙁
ID: gq3yovsAs an urban explorer, aren't you supposed to be good at physically going out and exploring places, not sleuthing where something is over the Internet?
-
This isn't the height of pettiness, but it's certainly competing for the spot.
-
Somehow this drama is made all the better with the knowledge that the spot theyre squabbling over is in Gary, Indiana.
This church is beautiful but I’d have second thoughts of visiting- is it reaaaaally worth it if you have to go to Gary, Indiana to get there?
ID: gpz289sI'd prefer Spongebob or even Patrick
-
By the name of the sub I was hoping it would be a photo of a box of pornography left in the woods.
ID: gpz0d5yThe only reason I clicked the link
-
This guy is spending way too much energy on being an asshole for no reason when he could have spent 1% of that energy answering the damn question.
ID: gpxxm6lIt's cuz he didn't have the answer so he went defensive.
-
Damn i thought it was gonna be a suspicious photo taken in an alley lol
ID: gpxffadNope. That I'd have maybe understood. It's a completely innocuous tourist attraction
-
we are clearly waaaay too bored in quarantine
-
It's in Gary, IN I'm 80% sure...
Edit: 100% City Methodist - Gary, IN
-
I get why a hobbyist in this sort of thing would guard locations. Information getting out tends to ruin places like this: even if newcomers don't physically wreck the location, increased traffic tends to get landowners more active in guarding access, and isolation is often the point of the trip in the first place.
That said, the commenter's a huge tool. Especially since several people already say they recognize it and that it's in Gary, Indiana. I don't even really do the abandoned building thing, and I'm aware of Gary as a destination; I assume it's not news to many people who are into the hobby.
-
I'm more upset that the place is called Gary indiana and not beautiful Gary.
-
I know it's kinda bland but there's a part of me that thinks "No it isn't" is the perfect flair.
-
Popcorn pissers everywhere.
-
Well that escalated
-
Wow. That guys is a dick
-
god I can't stand how "urban explorer" types always post 50 photos of some dilapidated factory complex with a fucking novel about their journey through it then make such a big deal of how YOU can never go there and they have to keep it SOOPER SECRET UwU you understand no one can EVER KNOW this special place that only I may access big important grownup secwet
-
Ok, OP clearly have been building up all the rage and let it fall over this one guy, but he has a point
-
Swear I've seen el-squatcho trolling elsewhere before.
-
I really didn't even look at the drama. I read "beautiful Gary, IN" laughed and left.
-
Shut up dickhead.
