The Smash scene has never exactly been known for being the most welcoming community (see the thread on the various sexual assault scandals revealed last June). Recently, a new character released in Super Smash Bros Ultimate (Previous SRD thread). Perhaps worst of all, this character happens to be an attractive anime-style woman. More-or-less immediately, the sexist jokes start rolling in.
On March 6th, top SSB Melee player HugS released a video outlining problems with a recently created "jiggle physics" mod for the character's breasts, along with various problems with objectification of women in the Smash community. This video had a mixed reception, to say the least.

:[+11] When are these shit takes going to stop being given attention
[+12] Let people be horny towards game characters in peace, for fuck’s sake.
[-6] it’s pretty fuckin obvious to me that he has shut himself off into a misogynistic community that objectifies and degrades women

:[-27] What does it mean to objectify women?
[-25] So i geuss the implication is that people are just a bunch of wild mindlessly horny animals with no self control and have just lost the ability to seperate fiction from reality.
Part 2 of the above
Is this all just moral grandstanding? A very long comment chain: Part 1, Part 2

Does the Smash Community have a Sexism Issue?
Yes. But it's not because of anime titties...

I'd you want to see some of the sexism in the Smash Bros community watch the 6hs SB documentary on YouTube where the only woman pro player mentioned on the documentary is mentioned as the girlfriend of another pro player.
ID: gq5qrmsThat isn't inherently sexist. 50% of the top rated players in the world aren't women.
-
People shouldn’t feel unwelcome because of humans expressing basic biological urges and appreciation towards art.
This is an amazing response to "Maybe no jiggling anime tits in public?'
-
So Hugs has a problem with some random joke optional mod that you have to go out of your way to install and risk bricking your Switch rather than pedos in the competitive community? What a nontroversy. Sure hope Hugs is upset at the rule 34 fanart images that he is equally free to ignore.
No one would have known or cared about that mod had Hugs or whoever let it be.

there is a very large subset of people on the internet that constantly bitch and whine about pornographic videogame mods, i'm sure someone would care

Does the Smash Community have a Sexism Issue?
At this point, I'm starting to think that maybe it's more that the Smash Community is having a Smash Community Issue.
-
Damn why is this soo contreversial. Like it's a mod someone made, if you want it you can install it. It isn't like the jiggle physics are base game.
-
Wait, is smashbros about bros that like to smash? I'm confused.
ID: gq5a8njNo brothers AND sisters

I will agree that Pyra and Mythra have very problematic designs but that's not gonna stop me whacking it to them
ID: gq560daI think it's fine to wack off to the characters, but when a scary amount of the discussions/memes I see about these characters is about how big their tits are, there may be a problem.
-
The smash community is has an issue with everything, especially basic hygiene. Sexism is actually their smallest issue.
-
Tip of the hat for that title

I've barely seen people discussing the characters moveset or anything. It's mostly about how big their tits are or how the tights on Pyra turn them on. They definitely have a probably with sexism and objectifying women. Not to mention all the talk abut women in tournies getting harrased.
E: I've come to realization that I may be stupid.
ID: gq5buapthe entire frontpage of the smash bros subreddit RIGHT NOW is either clips from the game, discussions about the game or post match threads and all of the threads pertaining to the new character are saying that they're mechanically busted
like why are you making things up that can be disproven by the first glance at the topic in question you lobotomites
ID: gq588qiWhat? There's a bunch of discussion about their movesets in the front page of
? There's a post about lingering hitboxes, how Mythra racks up damage and Pyra closes up the round, etc. -
i hope they take away the anime tiddies.
ID: gq5r85nI say NO tiddies at all until they add a snake bulge, or at least buff them cheeks some
ID: gq5r2x0Maybe they should for the American market at least.

It's the FGC in general. In my 10 years of following the scene (mostly through Street Fighter but it applies) and attending majors I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that most of the female presence who aren't well known players in their own right (like Ricki or Sherry) are conventionally attractive cosplayers or on commentary..barely. It's defintiely a "boy's club" and I felt as much when my last major was after transition and I could FEEL the difference vs. when I went cis before. Whether I go back or not after the pandemic is up in the air but it's very isolating to feel like the odd one out in the venue

I think it's a symptom of the main issue (sexism)
that's not to say there are normal non-sexist people that can appreciate fat anime titties (citation needed).
