Edit: Ought’ve added “I don’t play first-person non-VR games” as option 4. Or tbh asked “would this improve the current theater mode? Yes or no.” For those needing a visual-aid, this comment description is all I’ve got for ya
Currently non-VR games utilize theater mode, but I’d love to see Call of Duty BOCW, Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, etc. expand to cover your full FoV. (Placing you inside your character’s head, as well.)
No other VR aspects needed, (your character’s head wouldn’t move with you or aim via your eye line,) this is simply to make playing any first-person game while wearing your headset more immersive.
Surprised this hasn’t happened in some form already, tbh, I’d pay up to $5/game for this bonus. If you like the idea, what other first-person games would you want to see?

For me I couldn't see myself ever using that feature not only would it break any immersion but just regular theater mode in vr gives me a headache after looking at it to long

As another already said, I don't like theatre mode. In fact it makes me sick and I have pretty strong vr legs.
If I'm going to play flat, I'll play on my TV
If I misunderstood you, and you're talking about 3D like RE7, sign me the fuck up for gtav and rdr2!
ID: gq4q4poThat’s fair, I’m looking for a way to improve the theatre mode.
Hmm haven’t had a chance to play RE7, but that may be what I’m saying! Assuming you’re using the DualShock, how does looking around/aiming work?

Like vorpx?

As far as other games, I’d kill for Sea of Thieves to come to PS (preferably with xprogression and xplay) but especially any VR whatsoever.
Just a beautiful game, would be thrilling to sale around fully immersed!
This wouldn’t work with the current Moves, but I’m hoping PSVR2’s controllers work similarly to the Switch’s. (In that they’d function as a DualShock split in two, for playing regular games with your hands apart.)

For those who need a visual-aid, I suppose there’d be two versions:
If you’ve played the X-Wing VR mission in Battlefront, imagine that. You can look left or right to see enemies, but you still have to use your controller to aim at them. (Potentially this gives an unfair advantage.) Or:
Moving your head does nothing, and your screen remains centered in the middle of your headset. Increased FoV is the only addition.
ID: gq4rvkhJust increased FOV, or is it rendered stereo?
Basics: Head-based camera. Just looks in the direction your headset points (relative to character direction). Single image displayed to both eyes at a fixed distance. I wouldn't want this. You'd trade too much resolution for free-look. Stereoscopic head-orientation look. Like the above, but two scene renders, to make a stereoscopic view. You'd gain depth perception, sense of scale, etc. This is the most basic form I'd want. Next add in 3D audio. I'm only leaving that off the base ask because I'm sure it would look like too much effort for many developers to overhaul their audio system as opposed to just rendering the scene twice. Wish-list items. Leaning more towards a more complete VR port: Stereo view, with HUD elements, maps, etc. integrated into the game world to increase immersion. ie: In RDR2 Arthur would pull out a map. Health is a tricky one to include unless you're in some sort of ship or suit. For the more adventurous developer, they could take full head movement into account, not just direction. Would require dev time to prevent head-through-walls and objects situations.I think this is about as far as you can go before you start adding VR controls, at which point, you're not not doing a basic VR enhancement, you're doing a full VR port.
ID: gq4mqyeThe X wing vr mission in battlefront is full vr so I'm not sure what you're trying to describe. There's also a massive difference between having an enhanced theatre mode and adding a first person perspective to a third person game like rdr.
Effectively the only simple vr mode you could add would not involve any change to the controls, mechanics or camera and you couldn't have 3d without redoing the in game graphics.
I think the only way this could work is to just make a bigger screen in theatre mode, which would be pretty pointless

Yeah theater mode sucks tbh, that’s why this idea.
Not sure how it’d break any immersion? Sounds like we agree it’s better than the current theater mode.
