A few days ago, I decided to watch all the Thomas Harris based movies, started with Manhunter, Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal (Mehhhhh) and that piece of SHIT called Hannibal Rising (who the fuck thought it was good, I hated the main actor, his face and his chin, but they did remake a particular scene from that movie into the tv show, like a carbon copy).
But anyway, as I was deep into my trip with Dr Lecter, I decided to watch Hannibal the tv show... I never thought someone could do a better job than Sir Anthony Hopkins but Mads Mikkelsen proved me wrong. I've always liked him from other mediums, but here HE IS LECTER. Pure perfection.
It's complex, gory (the visuals OMG... The writers are psychopaths clearly), you feel connected to the characters (even the secondary ones), Beverly Katz or Abel Gideon are the kind of characters who rarely have an storyline of their own in other shows.
I don't want to go sleep, I need to know the rest, pisses me off.

I love to read every single post praising the Hannibal series. I love this show so so much

This show had no business being on regular tv. It was absolutely beautiful.
The Italy season did put me off a bit, but I absolutely loved everything about this show otherwise.
Some of the gore still gives me chills.
ID: gq65ewgI remember after the first episode I kind of forgot it was a NBC show and thought it was the next big hbo thing.
ID: gq6mluvThe italy Season was my favorite because It was the most psychodelic.
ID: gq6s155Morpheus getting his shot was the best, though. I loved that scene.

You can't stop watching, this is my design.

I was never all that into the Hannibal stuff (Silence of the Lambs is great, but it holds that on its own merits imo). So, it took a bit to make me budge and finally give the show a go, but man was I hooked within the first few minutes.
It's one of the most pretentious shows that I've watched where the pretension is not only self-aware but actually serves the story. Performance, cinematography, original compositions, and the purple prose of the writing are all just so amazingly done, and twist together to create something truly special. It's one of those things that feels like it shouldn't really work, but goddamn it does. I revisit it every so often and still find it so compelling. Always pleased to see it get some love and attention! Fingers crossed for a return at some point in the space-time continuum?

I hesitated to watch the series due to the really bad sequels. I finally gave it a shot and the wife and I were hooked from the very first episode. Fantastic show.
ID: gq61f8sThat's my point, after Hannibal (2001) and Hannibal Rising, I was done, they had killed all the characters, until I saw the first episode... And It's fucking amazing.
-
Still haven't recovered from season 2 finale
-
It makes me hungry and I find that unsettling
-
One of the top 3 shows of the decade along with Breaking Bad and Twin Peaks for me. I wasn't really into the movies except for Manhunter which is fantastic in its own right.
ID: gq71grfFinally someone mentioned twin peaks the return. That episode 8 was just WTF
-
I watched it as it aired but never finished Season 3. I’m going to have to finally finish it.
ID: gq78ag1Don't listen to the other reply to you. The 2nd half of Season 3 is fantastic. If it was the Italy stuff that made you not finish, you should definitely pick it back up.
ID: gq728jpIt doesn't improve from the dogshit that season 3 started with.

This is my design.

I love Hannibal,it's awesome.. It's a shame that the show ended before It should because the live ratings on NBC were not great.
-
Hannibal is pure art.
-
It looks like an interesting show and I want to watch it but never fared well with gorey shows. The Black Museum episode of Black Mirror (pain doctor part) literally made me vomit.
ID: gq6gcxbYeah, it's not for you if that episode of Black Mirror made you vomit. The gore, violence, and body horror is intense, I'm still amazed that this show was on broadcast television. It would have received an NC-17 rating not that long ago.
ID: gq6gfajI usually dislike gore too. But with this show, the gore is literally art. And it helps to alleviate the usual repulsion of it.
-
binged it in the begining of the new year, cant beleive it took me that long to discover such a brilliant show , the ending of season 2 was a thing of beauty cant praise the show enough

(No spoilers in this post)
I just finished this for the first time yesterday! I too was really nervous because of how much I love both the book and the film of Silence of the Lambs (the film is a stalwart on my top 10), but my brother (who hadn't seen Silence at that point) recommended it and I was absolutely blown away.
I wasn't ready last night to be "finished" with Hannibal, for there to be no more new episodes waiting for me. Right now, I'm simultaneously empty and filled with feels. I'm letting it sit for a few days before I rewatch with the teleplay pulled up on my laptop.
-
I enjoyed the show. Not the ending. But the show itself was great. One of my favourite horror tv shows.
-
Mads portrayal of hannibal far exceeds anthony hopkins in my mind. There is a much more subtle and unsettling wit in the hannibal version, where i find the silence of the lambs version to feel much more harsh and abrasive, not at all eloquent. Like tim curry's IT vs skarsgard's. I didn't see tim curry's version until i was an adult and at that point he just reminded me of a loud drunken uncle more than a creepy clown.
-
Much better than Clarice. But the show existed in its own absurd reality.
-
I was afraid to watch for fear of gore. But everybody is like don't be a wuss it's awesome. I've been watching so many new shows that I'm just getting into battlestar galactica. 1st season. Whoa.
-
I love the show but have to agree with those who didn't like season 3, or at least how it started. Recently rewatched it and it really does drag until the latter half.
-
Better hangfire before naming it great. It goes downhill, and oh boy does it go down FAST.
I blame the creator getting a big ego around his fans and writing the show to pander to the loudest of them.
-
I just want to really blow your mind here: Hannibal, the brutally violent psycho-thriller with surrealist themes that the creator once described as "not television," but actually "a pretentious art film from the 80's," aired on Thursday night on NBC.
That's right. For the first season, this was a fucking primetime network show.
-
Have you noticed how the show is basically about coming out of the closet? Replace "dark" with "gay"
Im not even joking, the director confirmed it
-
It was really elegant, stylish, witty, beautifully shot fan fiction.
Not an interpretation, a fan fiction by a talented producer.

May be top 3 for me. So great. I can't believe NBC let them air that second season finale.
