I like playing a lot of fighting games, so I'm used to really fast paced and complex combat, but I've been trying to take a break from them for my mental health. In the meantime I'd like to pick up more games with super fast paced action to scratch that itch.
Hyperlight Drifter is a good example of the kind of action I'm talking about, where the timing windows are somewhat tight, the dash isn't an iframe loaded cure all, and you can do flashy stuff like reflect projectiles. I'm aware that there are other bossfighty type games, and on the flashier side there is stuff like Katana Zero, but those games are usually just short rides and I'd really like to sit with a game like this for a while and get familiar with its systems, hence why a game like this having some kind of progression or even rogue-like system if executed decently well would be a huge bonus.

Deep combat, fast paced, RPG progression, similar-ish to fighting games (inasmuch as you hit things and block rather than, say, use guns), sounds like Nioh 2 would be perfect for you.

Hollow knight, Enter the Gungeon, Hades, Binding of Isaac

ID: gq6zqq5great games. Just finished HLD also and liked it as much as hollow knight. ETG is awesome also. Didn’t play hades because it’s not on ps4, and I’ll play binding some time in the future.

Flinthook Immortal Planet DandaraID: gq75d19
Flinthook looks fun and cute, thanks for the suggestion! Immortal planet looks a bit too slow paced for it to scratch that itch for me, and unfortunately I could never quite get into Dandara despite it looking like something up my alley.

Did you tried Noitra?

Sleeping Dogs. If you haven’t played it, you gotta. It has three different skill/progression trees so it has some RPG elements

Nioh series and DMC are good, your unlock skills for combat as you go so you have more character combos as the game progresses. Nioh has my favorite combat system. Dragons dogma is also a fun rpg where you can buy skills with points you gain fighting and has many different classes to play as.
