I’ve never had any issues with my controllers and I even have a launch ds4.
My brother on the other hand has, but he mainly plays cod. I wonder if it’s the push down on the stick to sprint over a long period that causes it.
ID: gpuaziwID: gpuf3wyI can tell a difference in L3 and R3. I think it's because I only use R3 when that stick is in the neutral position and L3 is used when already on the move. This is the reason I want back buttons- to stop using L3 and R3.

The problem is new controllers (2019/2020) there's been a batch of faulty ones, I've changed mine 3 times in the past 3 months because they start drifting after 1 or 2 weeks, latest one started drifting the same day it arrived. (all directly from Sony btw) And the sad part is a lot of people don't believe this since it hasn't happened to them.

Been around 3 years since i got my ps4 and my controller just in the last month has started to stick drift. These companies need to come under fire because otherwise they will have no impetus to fix this issue.

I know everyone’s experience has been different but this stick drift thing has been terrible. I had 5 DS4’s and all of them experienced varying degrees of stick drift. 2 of them unusable because of the severity and two of them I just bought for my kids Christmas ‘19 both having issues. I don’t want to have to buy a new controller every year when it only gets about 10 hrs a week of use. IMO Sony should just get in front of this and use better quality components on the stick moving forward. I’d pay $100 for a quality controller that will last me 5+ years or several thousand hours of use rather than buying ratty ones destined to fail every year.
ID: gpspebmIt's weird. My dualshock 4 is actually over 5 years old, bought from amazon in 2015. And has been used for thousands of hours and still in use most days even now. No stick drift, no broken buttons or triggers.

Drift on 2 and a broken microphone port on the other 2. Idk why they bothered making a mic included in the controller tbh they could’ve used the money saved not having a mic on the controller to get better sticks or ports.

ID: gpsuswdI'd suggest buying the $20 back button attachment and instructing your kids to NEVER use the stick clicks but instead use the paddles. Imo stick drift is directly related L3 R3 usage. Dualsense sucks at the moment, to me, because there's no way to not use L3 R3 except for remapping heavy use like sprinting to a bumper etc.

ID: gq55tzwThe only problem i had with the DS4 was the plastic on the sticks tearing. But i just replaced them with xbox sticks which are superior. Never had any problems with drift on any controller except for every N64 pad I ever owned

Given that now every first party controller has drift I wonder if this is sort of a thing we all have to learn to live with from now on.

The only game where I thought my controller was drifting was Control. I have no issues with any other game. So yeah it’s all about the dead zones

No issues with my PS5 controller. But for the PS4, I never had any issues with the DS4, but the last two I bought in 2018 & 2019 had drifting issues. I was very confused. Thought I did something wrong. But I also admit that I can get really intense in games and get aggressive with the L3/R3 buttons. But as games get more immersive, I dont see that trait of mind diminishing

The only controller I ever had stick drift with was a SCUF, other than that I didn't have a single controller with stick drift.

The only two controllers that I've ever owned that developed stick drift are my old X360 controller and my first left joycon. I replaced the stick in the joycon myself.

I have 2 nintendo switches with 2 sets of joycons and 2 pro controllers. Also have a ps5 with 2 controllers. All these controllers have been used for hundreds and hundreds of hours, I have never experienced any kind of drift.
What the hell are yall doing with your controllers? Or am I just lucky.
ID: gpt00dtFor the joycons you are lucky. They have a design flaw that just usually results in stick drift. I had one pair get drift after 800+ hours and my second pair get drift after less than 40 hours. Replaced the sticks myself and been fine since.
Never had any other console joysticks have drift.

ID: gq4qly5Yep also had the spring go on mine. Sony replaced it without a hitch though, when I spoke to the CS rep I asked whether they noticed this coming in and he did reluctantly say yes. Just RMA it, I did end up ordering a second controller though as I couldn’t deal with the 15 day turnaround
ID: gpt85k4Extremely lucky. But also remember you’re constantly switching controllers between 4 sets so ofc a single controller won’t get strained to drift levels as fast or easily. Hundreds and hundreds of hours is incredibly vague. Most develop drift after 400 hours of use.
I’ve had 3 joycon sets. Left joycon drifted after playing exclusively Octopath Traveler a turn based rpg ffs. My second pair started to drift while playing Pokémon and breath of the wild. My third pair I basically refuse to use beyond the basic dpad or face buttons or triggers because I know more than likely those will start to drift too and then I’ll be 3/3.
My dualshocks I’ve owned 5 or 6 and 2 still work fairly well however the first 2 editions were launch PS4 dualshocks that had their analog rubber ripping off and those started to drift shortly after the analog was bare. Then I got a metallic blue one that lasted a single month playing dead by daylight which is funny because my friend got the same new edition colors but purple and hers got severe drift after only a month of use which leads me to believe that there’s something critically wrong with these controllers because aside from smashing or dropping your controller no amount of button mashing should result in a months use of a controller before drift happens.
Really wish people would stop saying “what the fuck are you doin to your controllers” as if it’s our fault. Know what I did to my controllers? Babied them and played games normally with clean hands and they still broke.
Can’t believe people are downvoting me for telling people my experience with controllers. I had never gotten drift prior to that in any console, not the GameCube, not the PS2, not the PS3, not the Xbox, none of them until switch and PS4.

ID: gq4adzgWhat’s stopping you ? The potentiometers used in these sticks are standard parts you can just order, they aren’t exactly expensive either. All it takes is a little soldering skill to replace them.

The point of class-actions is to hold the defendant accountable under laws that are intended to protect consumers from bad actors. They work when the result can't just be written off as "the cost of doing business."
Forced arbitration is a get-out-of-jail-free card that has been abused by corporate America ever since the AT&T v. Conception decision happened ~10 years ago. The best thing that can happen for consumers is for that law to be repealed.

ID: gpunelgClass actions are best for cases where it is not viable for people to bring individual claims. This is a perfect example--it does not make financial sense for someone to bring a lawsuit over their individual $70 controller. I have not read the TOS to see what the arbitration clause contains, but I would assume it includes a waiver of class action rights, which means each person needs to bring their claim individually in arbitration, which is even more expensive than filing in court.
With a single class action suit, there are enough damages at play to make it a worthy case and the collective suit creates an incentive for Sony to fix the problem in their controllers going forward.

My friends DS4 stick drifted and his DS5 are too.
I’m glad that Sony and Nintendo are under fire for this. Now MS needs to be under fire. My Elite Series controller is drifting and I have no warranty to fix this.

Yeah, the company that has created tremendous, cross generation gaming consoles is being sued because of stick drift. Anyone who participates is a straight stinking ball bag. Do you think Sony intentionally designed the dualsense to have this issue as a big scheme to get you to buy more controllers? If you do, seek mental health treatment. SONY THANK YOU FOR THE PHENEMONAL ENGINEERING THAT HAS GONE INTO THE PS5 AND DUELSENSE!! Nothing in life is perfect but Sony has gotten pretty close with the PS5. Class action lawsuits like this is what clogs up the court system and takes away from class action lawsuits that may actually help a segment of the population that was truly prayed upon.

The whole design process to solve stock drift would take an extremely long amount of time to the point where it’s just unrealistic that this will be fixed in the near future. Firstly, a lot of the issue is from the stick manufacturer (the spring inside can be twisted and bent causing drift) and then Sony would somehow have to either find a way to stop any sort of dust entering the inside of the controller or somehow design the controller with replaceable sticks. Not worth it

I got stick-drift on my Dualsense after only playing Demon Souls. Took me about 80hrs to platinum, but my left stick drifts upwards erratically on its own all the time. Never pressed it down at all, not a button used in the game.
