It’s always been a problem for people who play multiple platforms, but as someone who balances both retro games and modern...it’s a nightmare.
Currently playing PS4, ps2, OG Xbox, 360, Xbox one, dreamcast, switch, and a touch of snes. Kinda wish the 360 controller just worked for all

Honestly, "X" could be anywhere...

20 years later I'm still mad that Xbox used the same face buttons from SNES, but moved them around for no reason. Even now, I can't keep them straight.
No matter which controller I'm using I think right is A and down is B, like on Nintendo, and that up is Y and left is X, like on xbox. I hate it.

ID: gqhmjd7There's actually a very good reason: the Xbox controller is descended from the Dreamcast controller (and consequently the Genesis/Mega Drive controller), which had A to the bottom-left of B. The Xbox as a whole is essentially a spiritual successor to the Dreamcast and Sega console lineage.

I’ve reprogrammed my Switch Pro controller to my Xbox layout. Much nicer.

X and Y on the Nintendo controllers are the worst for me.
I'm comfortable with all the other buttons on all my other consoles, but I have to look if the Switch game prompts for X or Y.

Worst was when QTE’s were in every game and demanded you press x or die..... I died a lot

All these people too young for a SNES but also never used a Classic controller on the Wii, apparently everyone started gaming on a Xbox 360 or PS2.

Personally, I've used the PS/XB controllers for so long I've never had an issue switching back and forth, and know what button is for what.
When it comes to Switch, holy crap. It's like learning how to ride a bike again.
If it was not for Nintendo allowing remapping on the Switch, I swear this would have still been a big headache for me.
