3600 for 220$ vs 5600x for 380$

i live in asia so getting a CPU at MSRB is basically impossible without having to pay extra for shipping and taxes

right now, the cheapest R5 3600 in my country is being sold for 220$ (shipping+tax included) while the cheapest R5 5600x is being sold for 380$ (shipping+tax included)

i plan on gaming in 1080p and my GPU is GTX 1060 6gb, which CPU should i get it?

Go for the 3600. 5600X is not going to perform 72% better.

3 : Anonymous2021/03/13 10:55 ID: gqseky9

3600 provides much better price:performance, 5600X provides better performance.

With a GTX 1060, even a 3600 is overkill as this processor scales well all the way up to the RTX 3090.

If you don't have an AM4 motherboard already, check intel i5-10400f. i5 is about the same performance as r5 3600 while being much cheaper.

Yeah, that cpu is really really good, the problem is the mobo. Usually intel motherboards are more expensive than am4

not THAT much more expensive.

ID: gqt9ba9

b560 and h570 as cheap/cheaper than amd equivalents

Yup, this is the answer. If you already have an am4 motherboard, go for the 3600, if not, the 10 400f or 10 600k is a better option for gaming.

Unless you plan to upgrade soon to a rx6000/rtx 3000, then maybe you could go for the 5600x or similar.

They're cheap in Thailand. Asia is huge btw.

6 : Anonymous2021/03/13 11:45 ID: gqshhuv

The difference isn't huge, and if you need the money for other stuff there's no reason to get the 5600x imo

7 : Anonymous2021/03/13 12:34 ID: gqskqac

With the money you save you can upgrade your GPU to a 1070 ti

8 : Anonymous2021/03/13 12:36 ID: gqskwqm

Ryzen 3600 all the way.

You'll hardly be bottlenecked with the Ryzen 3600 unless you are playing with extremely high FPS competitive e-sports title at 1080p.

3600

10 : Anonymous2021/03/13 14:53 ID: gqswtmg

3600 because your GPU is the bottleneck. buy 5600x if you are planning to upgrade video card to 3060ti, 6700xt down the road. GPUs that can take advantage of more powerful CPUs with 1440p gaming.

The first is near MSRP, the 2nd is not.

I made the 3600 to 5600x upgrade. People say it is not worth it, but there are use cases where it helps a lot, and all related to "higher" refresh rate gaming for now.

Older single-core/poorly threaded games do not perform "well" on the 3600. High 80s and 90s fps a lot of the time. For my flashed 5700, older games like Grim Dawn and FC4 would never really hit my 120 fps cap. 80-90s most of the time depending on where you are looking. Now, I am pretty well pegging the video card to my 120 fps cap at all times.

If you have 120hz+ you will see a benefit. Is this benefit worth it to you?

A 1060 probably won't give 120 FPS in modern games at high quality, so with 5600X it's more like a future-proof solution for a possible future GPU upgrade. Or for older games and/or poor quality.

12 : Anonymous2021/03/13 13:01 ID: gqsmqrt

5600x is overkill for gaming at 1080 (unless you play competitive CSGO or something). 3600 is already future proof for that GTX 1060. Save 160$ for a better card next year.

It's the other way around.

1080p profits the most from a 5600X.

4K the least (as you'll be GPU bound in most games).

Of course only for high refresh rate, 60hz is easy.

Maybe consider Intel even, the 10400F is usually much cheaper than the 3600, and B560 can be found which allow memory overclock unlike B460.

The 5600X is too expensive, and you won't even see the benefits until you upgrade to something way more powerful than a 1060

14 : Anonymous2021/03/13 16:30 ID: gqt7duh

5600x will be a waste of money with GTX 1060, even 3600 is overkill for that GPU. Ryzen 1600AF/2600 will be fine with that.

And as other people mentioned, i5 10400 is worth a look as its often quite a bit cheaper. And with B560/H570 board you can get faster ram and get the full potential out of it.

The intel B560/H570 boards are bit more than amd B450, it really depends on the pricing in your region.
