- Almost two decades later, REmake 1 is still my favorite RE game
-
RE1Remake is the king of remakes. It's just so well done and sets the standards incredibly high for anything coming after it.
ID: gs6nzreID: gs6s469And the fact that they straight up added the whole shark section in the remake because they didn't have the tech to do it in the original
ID: gs79juaThere's only one thing that the originals did better than the remake, and that's the voice acting. But you can mod that in, if it tickles your Jibble.
ID: gs7a3k3Tank controls are fine and are a design choice. They’re also perfectly usable for anyone able to think and move in 2D in a 3D space. The full analogue controls make the game extremely easy at certain parts; parts which had your heart pounding in the original - such as fighting Lisa Trevor in the caves.
The HD remasters are good and I’m glad they exist because they introduced a lot of people to the game, but the GameCube version is superior in visuals because of one main thing, the pre-rendered backgrounds are not stretched or blurry, and if you play it on a CRT it has a really unique feel and atmosphere to it which still holds up incredibly to this day. It was at least a generation ahead of its time in that respect.
The remaster just can’t capture the beauty and original intention of the GameCube version as they stretched and didn’t update the backgrounds. It looks really muddy and blurry in a lot of places and rips me out of the immersion.
ID: gs7wq9eThis and Metroid: Zero Mission are what I believe all game remakes should strive for.

This game still looks so good almost 20 years later.
ID: gs7icvqFour more years and RE4 will be 20 years old too :O
ID: gs7rer6Re4 doesn’t even look close to as good as REmake and RE0. The re4 remaster for ps4 looks worse than the GameCube 2002 day one release!
ID: gs7qk6lHoly shit
-
It's undeniably the best version of RE1, but my favorite version is Deadly Silence.
ID: gs6p4kaI honestly didn’t even know Deadly Silence was a thing until a few weeks ago
ID: gs6xueuIt's definitely the best way to play the original RE1 in my opinion.
It would be perfect if it included Arrange Mode from the Directors Cut, but Deadly Silence has Classic Mode plus Rebirth (which is kind of an Arrange mode).
Plus, additional costumes, quick knife and real time weapon reloading just like RE4, skippable door animations, and even a strange yet awesome Co-op mode that I played a ton of back in the day.
It's a fantastic version if you still have your DS
ID: gs6y7e1I have just known about Deadly Silence from reading this post.
ID: gs72n79I think it actually looks better than the PS1 version as well.

Remake is great, Im also the same way with RE2 after 23 years
ID: gs7uzlhI remember a comment on an older thread saying something to the effect of “REmake is so good it has literally replaced the original RE1, while REmake2 can only ever serve as a retelling or alternate version of the original RE2.”
ID: gs7feakRE2R could be as great as the RE1R, but Capcom was too lazy to recreate the A and B scenarios properly like in the original one.
ID: gs7jvqnYeah, this was the only thing that bugged me about the 2 remake. It could have been perfect
-
I went into it without knowing about crimsonheads. That easily rivaled the original's dog intro.
SO GOOD!
-
Yeah, agree. I've been replaying most of the series to get me hyped for Village, and there's just nothing like REmake. It's absolutely perfect.
-
When it came out I said "games are not going to look much better than this" nearly 20 years later, still true.
-
Best Jill face by FAR
-
I miss when RE remakes were good
-
I would say it's probably the creepiest RE game too.
-
It really is the best of the franchise. Really anything from 0 to CV is amazing imo. The 2 and 3 remakes were great. Im hoping CV gets one as well. Such an underrated game. Also, As good as 4-7 were it’s just an entirely different feel. I’m hyped for 8 but just wish they would go back to that original style.
ID: gs6zcndI want more original style RE games so bad, Village looks cool but I'd love another zombie focused game in a setting like a hospital or something
-
Crazy to think that Remake 1 and RE1 were only 6 years apart when they look so different compared side by side.
Meanwhile take a game from 2015 and compare it to a 2021 game and the difference (if any) is so much more minimal
-
Perfect puzzles, perfect pace, perfect characters and story....
....gorgeous graphics.
-
Is this a mod or can you unlock Jill's RE3 outfit in REmake?
ID: gs6rq7eYou can unlock her outfit in the game itself, you just have to beat twice as her.
ID: gs6rvrxThat makes sense. I usually play as Chris so I guess thats why I didn't know. Thanks!
ID: gs6tf87You can unlock it, it depends on the difficulty, I played the HD version and got it after beating it on normal
-
This is the way for remakes
-
I had played other RE Games, but REmake was what gave me a lifelong love of Resident Evil, and a lifelong crush on Jill Valentine.
-
Same! Wish the other remakes were in this style
-
I convinced my younger brother to use his birthday money to buy a GameCube because THIS game was bundled with it at the time. Best heist I’ve ever pulled off.
-
It holds up so well that I really question the need for a remake, since some ask for it
ID: gs6ykxxA remake of a remake that got a remaster would just be milking at that point.
ID: gs74l10The original is up there as the best story and setting, with the worst (so bad its good) dialogue and the worst control mechanics.
Id hate to see them go the route of RE3remake and cut out content, but this is THE game that got us all hooked. I think we all deserve to play this game with all of the puzzles/backtracking under the new engine. It would blow the RE3 remake out of the water.
-
I play it from time to time still too even though I platinumed it years ago
-
YES!
-
Agreed!
-
now i want to play it again!
-
Yes! Mine too it was and is still my favorite RE and probably my favorite game ever
-
Lol. I just finished this remake yesterday playing Jill.
The puzzles are the hardest in this one. Loved it!!!
-
It's also my favorite. The environment is just perfectly done
-
I second that.
-
As much as I love re1,2,3 and the remakes. I always feel like Ripley from Aliens. I played it and I'm done. I don't want to replay them again cause I'm scared in some ways. I love the games but the fear of playing alone is quite strong.

My favorite Resident Evil and one of my favorite games if all time

Absolutely, it effectively renders the original obsolete, and the HD Remasters take it one step further and modernize the control scheme.
