Eternally meditating.

Is this mode just a no death play through? Or is it some how different?
ID: gs507h5its no death play through on the hardest difficulty setting
you get hit you get erased
ID: gs50ud6Normal mode in this game is like nightmare in Doom 2016. It’s much harder.
ID: gs5dql5Not if you use chaingun shield. Then you can tank an entire second hit!
ID: gs5q80xSounds like Mein Leben in Wolfenstein 2. Shittiest thing about it is that cutscenes aren’t skippable, so each time I died within the first 10 minutes, the first 7 were just me sitting there
That’s when I decided to care a bit less about trophies
ID: gs52zvfAm I the only one who doesn't get modes like this? I don't find adding a lot more pressure to a single player experience makes it enjoyable.
ID: gs53hjaYou don't have to get it. There's no obligation or achievement for doing it. It's just there for the tryhards and speedrunners.
ID: gs545mdFor myself when I was playing through Nier, it was the only mode thst kept me engaged with the game. I often find I need the games mechanics to push me and force me to improve to get the most of it.
Im also someone who's competitive to a fault though, so it makes sense that it's not for everyone.
ID: gs56qm5I thought so too until I did a Hollow Knight steelsoul run. There's a satisfaction in mastering boss fights or hard platforming that is greater than just a normal playthrough.
ID: gs5j50zI like watching very skilled players do these runs, like ManyATrueNerd doing the Fallout YOLO runs, but yeah, I personally gain no pleasure from it.
ID: gs50s5tYeah. It's essentially Nightmare but no deaths. This vid may help if you do play it.

On this episode of: how to become Dr. Strange in 2 days time.
ID: gs41hexIs that how its done? Well... looks like I need to get Doom Eternal.
ID: gs4myyiThrow some acid in the mix
ID: gs42ia8I want to get it too. But I don't thing I'll be trying the hardest difficulties. Both for the sake of my sanity and my time.
ID: gs5a662No, I'm pretty sure texting and driving is how you become Dr. Strange.
ID: gs54hffIsn’t that exactly what he did in the movie? When he fought dormammu and literally got rekt and came back each time trying new wizard tricks and probably meditating and learning before coming back
ID: gs56727In the movie he just started a time loop before he confronted Dormamu, and then just died as many times as it took for Dormamu to get pissed off failing to kill him, and got him to do what he wanted.
It’s a simple part of the movie, but I think it’s pretty cool. At first he tries not to die, but eventually he’s just going “whatever dude, I’ll be back in 30 seconds.” He’s resigned to keep dying as long as it takes for Dormamu to give up. He’s the stall tank you hate in the Pokémon tournament, but the Pokémon tournament determines the fate of our reality so, under the circumstances, it’s fine that he’s stockpile stalling.
ID: gs5d1h1The longer the Icon of Sin is on Earth, the angrier it becomes when you come to bargain.

I'm confused, is this mode different from ultra nightmare?
ID: gs4ty7iMost people don't know what ultra nightmare is. Explaining like this lets everyone understand he's going to either become a monk or kill himself.
ID: gs4p790No, they’re referring to ultra-nightmare.
ID: gs5anzbI know you're agreeing with him, but I like to imagine you're just being anal that he forgot the "-".
ID: gs51zh8I think most people don't meditate after every death, probably.
-
Some say they're still meditating to this very day.

Not sure why, but I couldn't get into Doom: Eternal. And I loved the 2016 game.
ID: gs52nyw2016 is more traditional with open exploration, heavier use of the map etc. Eternal basically puts you on a tram of rip and tear.
I am still playing Eternal. I am enjoying it but not as much as 2016 at this point. I think 2016 was more polished and had a lot of “neat” little things about it, Eternal feels like it basically took the blueprint and went nuts on the action side.
ID: gs573dhReally they're just two fairly different games. Eternal is a demanding action game that demands your attention and skill. You need to learn how the game works and the different ways you can exploit your tools and the environment in your favour.
Doom 2016 on the other hand is a romp across Mars/Hell, killing a ton of demons as you casually explore the level as well. Find what weapons you enjoy and blast away!
So it's all on what you enjoy. If you just want to sit back and feel like a total badass, play 2016. But if you want to push your skills to their limit and come out the other side feeling like an unkillable and even untouchable god, play Eternal. Neither is better, they're just both their own things.
ID: gs55sd5Same here, I played 2016 in the month leading up to eternal's release and it was kind of a shock how it went from a very gritty, visceral realism to an arcade machine (which I think was the point, but I didn't care for it).
Biggest change for me that put me off was that the melee attack was useless in eternal if you didn't have the blood punch charged up, I probably punched more enemies to death than shot in 2016 and being able to punch the weakest enemies in eternal 15 times and getting no reaction really sucked the joy out of it for me.
I don't want anyone to think I'm saying that eternal is a bad game, its not, in fact I can tell its pretty fantastic even if I couldn't get into it. This is just my personal opinion.
ID: gs5mbz0Now that you mention it, that's one of my few criticisms of Eternal, how useless the standard melee is. In doom 2016 it was a great fuck it option to force a stagger and get some breathing room. In eternal a standard punch is just a waste of a button press, and the demons will probably kill you in the time it took to press it.
ID: gs5054kless shoot more puzzle
ID: gs525teYou need to play Eternal much more actively. You have to push yourself to do the things the game is trying to get you to do. You need to learn quick switching, learn to combo grenade and blood punch falters into your offence, learn aerial movement etc.
I loved Doom 2016 but when I actually pushed myself to play better like Eternal expects of you, I just couldn't go back. Eternal has basically ruined all other FPS games for me because it expects so much more of you. It respects your abilities as a player.
ID: gs55dnrI’m looking forward to playing Doom 2016. I really enjoyed Eternal, and the way people describe the differences makes me think Doom 2016 will feel like a whole new super fun experience.

Something tells me you're going to dislike both these things after a while
-
Huh. And here i was using it to keep a table from wobbling
-
Steel Battalion but you disable the eject button because real men go down with their mech.
ID: gs52djeOh man, I forgot about that game. I always had wanted to try it. I'm a sucker for macropad controllers like that.

Rip And Tear

Meditation is extra effective when you use it as a punishment and force yourself to do it. The more you hate it, the better it works.
