- Light - Resident Evil Remake.

The lighting from the flashes of the thunderstorm are also well done.
Also, have anyone ever noticed that it's thundering and lightning when you're inside the mansion but when you're outside, it doesn't thunder and lightning at all?
ID: gs3h9dbID: gs3gum7Hmm, never noticed that. I kind of do now just thinking about being outside of the mansion when i played it on GameCube lol
ID: gs3ilxkIt's the same when playing on the other consoles and PCs.
ID: gs3qhqzIt stops training when you get the wind crest duh
ID: gs488klYears of playing, and I never noticed.
ID: gs49dh7I noticed it several years ago and mentioned it in this subreddit a few times. I had also played REmake for several years by then too.
ID: gs5rfn2Mansion is so freaking big, it rains on the front only, lol

This is why I still think the RE1 remake is still the most impressive game in the series.
RE8 looks amazing, and being next gen we'll see how that turns out, but nothing has captured the atmosphere like this remake did. Just absolutely stunning from beginning to end.
ID: gs4ybb9You got that right. REmake is the gold standard of remakes.
ID: gs5rn6hHaven't played remake. But I remember the days when the PS2 was new, and that "remake" (or update), had so many new textures on walls, floors and everywhere else where the new processing power didn't allow on PS1. It was so refreshed even at that time. RE is such a Gem
ID: gs6fwu1If you are an RE fan REmake is required playing. Also, semantics, but the original version was on the Gamecube 🙂

I love the atmosphere of REmake. It’s almost cozy when you’re slowly traversing the area. Beautiful shots OP.
-
the best remake of this series.
ID: gs59pjvBest RE game. Period.
-
There is a great area where light is cast through a slow moving fan in the lab area under the mansion. I remember just staring at it when I first played it when it came out.
-
It's so eeriely comforting
-
I remember skipping work on launch day for the GameCube back in 2002. Played all day, then my girlfriend came home with In-n-out and I started over from the beginning. She watched me play into the early morning hours. That was a great day.
-
Still working through this game, I love its atmosphere more than other resident evils
-
100% agree with so many comments. The atmosphere of each room plus the camera angles made opening each door a unique treat!
-
This is still the best looking one in the series.
-
Besides just the high quality, I also miss pre-rendered backgrounds for the stillness of them—even those with 'moving parts' were still mostly still. It adds to the creepiness by making you feel small and ineffectual in changing your environment.
-
What a game. They’ve never done atmosphere better.
-
I love this game, I don’t think it really has any flaws either. This is coming from somebody who never played the OG so I can’t judge it from the perspective of being an actual remake, but it’s atmosphere and everything else about it is so well done.
ID: gs5z95fIt's the very rare breed of remake that was so spectacularly well done that it basically made the original obsolete. REmake is the definitive version of RE1, and better in every conceivable way. The only real reason to play the original these days is for nostalgia, and to giggle at the cheesy voice acting, the wooden animations and the clown farting music.
Even RE2 REmake, while also an incredible game, changed / removed things and is worse in some ways compared to the original RE2. I adore both RE2's, but there's something so special about the atmosphere in the original, the iconic music, the spiders, the more unique A/B scenarios, etc.
-
It still holds up really well today, and for a game that came out 3 years after RE3
-
Still one of the best remakes to this day
-
Such a masterpiece
-
I've bought this game at least three times and still feel like I've gotten more than my money's worth.
-
The fixed camera angles really do make good use of the lighting in RE1Remake, especially since the light is in the foreground.
-
Flashbacks to Neocrainums randomizer run crashing after turning on the lamp
-
Heidi Anderson, Jill's voice actor, said this is one of her favourite things about the game, just seeing all the moody lighting.
-
Playing it last night, this game never gets old. Best remake still
-
Oh man, that fire of that cabin made me wanted to just sit there and chill for a bit
-
I just finished this game yesterday with Jill. Had not finished the original back in 1997 on PS1.
The puzzles are quite hard, or maybe I am old now.
-
This game is a masterpiece, and it shows that prerendered backgrounds games still have a lot to offer, let's remember that this is a 2002 game with only new textures.
Just imagine a full fledged game with prerendered backgrounds done today, you can have backgrounds with nearly no compression, very detail models since the backgrounds saves a lot of polygons, this nearly 20 year old game still looks terrifying to this day, even the base GameCube release looks quite impressive for how old it is.
Now we have every bit of a game uncompressed (that's why there's games that occupy nearly all your HDD like the new CODs), maybe seeing has we take HDD space for granted today let's imagine if a new prerendered game came out today.
I know it's really far fetched since general public doesn't really like the old RE formula, but it's interesting to think how good a game like that would look.
