- Sony And PlayStation Productions Developing ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ Movie With ‘John Wick’s Chad Stahelski Directing
-
The game was already trying REALLY hard to be a classic Samurai movie, between encouraging you to play in Japanese and giving you a "Kurosawa filter".
ID: gs6s3g6ID: gs6zw4xI saw a post on Twitter from a game dev ages ago about this. He estimated that to create a second set of animations for every character throughout the entire game, plus the additional programming required to implement, would've added at least a year of development time. Don't think it was ever possible.
ID: gs720tcComing from a western studio it’s not really a surprise. Hence why most eastern games come with the synching to their native language, just one of those things. The big problem with this is that facial animation is so advanced that it’s a tad jarring and far more noticeable compared to, say, the MGS series, which had western voices but eastern “lip synch” which just wasn’t noticeable due to facial animation not being far enough along yet lol
ID: gs6t6qjYes! That was a big let down when I noticed that. But still really enjoyed the game.

The climax of the story revolves around a player choice so I'm confused how they'll adapt that
ID: gs6vqjePretty sure the creators said the “Spare” choice was the canon one. They had to pick one because a sequel is in development.
ID: gs79a0wThank God. I feel like the Spare choice is the embodiment of Jin Sakai. Although Killing choice gives sudden emotional impact, the Spare choice gives a lasting emotional impact when you play the rest of the game.
The Spare choice made Jin Sakai unique in the sense that he's not afraid of the Japanese empire or the Mongols anymore and won't be forced to kill his uncle just because he asked for it.
ID: gs6u3nqTsushima multiverse confirmed!!!
ID: gs7537eI'm more concerned about the Canon Horse name.

Yea thats a slam dunk right there

If this film doesn't feel like a Kurosawa film, like the game payed homage to, that would be a HUGE missed opportunity.
ID: gs6tw49Hmmmm... I'd prefer Chad Stahelski keeps to is style and doesn't try to pay hommage to dear old Kurosawa. It would be a shame to try and copy a master when he can get away just fine with just doing what he is good at.
ID: gs6ux1dI can see that argument. I think a mix of the two would be best. Not a complete copy, but with scenes that pay homage to it. Mainly because the game itself was a love letter to Kurosawa, so some of the game's identity would be left out without some of that visual style.
ID: gs7974fI just hope it's written more like a Kurosawa film, the game did a good job evoking some of the constant movement and had a good use of color, but the writing was pretty basic.
I think Khan was a really compelling well preformed villain, but the rest didn't quite connect with me. A little bit of humor wouldn't have hurt, I mean Kikuchiyo is comic relief half the team and he's the emotional core of Seven Samarai.

Starring Mark Wahlberg as Lord Shimura!!!

Sony do good.
-
Unpopular opinion: I love this game, don't need a movie of it, already know the story.
-
People forget this isn’t just for fans of the game, it’s for people that don’t play games. It’s bringing it to a wider audience, it’s telling the story in a different medium that can play to different strengths.
-
To be fair, nobody "needs" a movie of anything. It's all just for entertainment.
-
I think you meant to say "To be pedantic".
-
I'm excited for a samurai movie
-
At first when I saw “John Wick” I thought “Keanu Reeves” and I was like: oh great, 47 Ronin Part 2”
-
It's gonna be just that again. White actors pretending they are samurais. This is Hollywood - they're too racist to cast actual Asians as main characters. A white actor will be involved somehow.
-
Horse name better be Nobu or I’ll boycott
-
Why though, we already have the game. It's not going to be better. Save the money and put it into the sequel. Thanks
-
It's a good way to expand on the audience and gain popularity
-
I hope Tom cruise is cast as Jin!
-
I actually have not played the game yet...should I?
-
3rd best game that came out last year imo
-
What’s your top 2?
-
Best game of 2020 for me. Definetely worth playing.
-
I started to lose interest in it halfway through, but I think I’m just fatigued from the Assassin’s Creed style sandbox collect-a-thon genre. It’s the best, most polished iteration of those kind of games. Also the best art direction from a 3D game I’ve seen in a while.
-
I got this very unique idea... what if we replace Jin with an American soldier, played by... let's say Tom Cruise.
Seriously, it's a good game but doesn't need a movie. Don't think they can make better (or even on par) sword duels or visuals. The bar is too high I'm afraid.
-
Edgy.
-
Can’t wait for the black actor that’s gonna play Jin Sakai
-
"How much for the horse?"
"It's not for sale"
[breaks into Jin's house, kills the horse]
-
A movie is great, you know what would be better? An anime!
-
Hype as fuck
-
Donnie Yen as Jin or bust
haha jk, it'll be a great movie.
-
I need to play this, hey gamestop ship my ps5.
-
April Fools?
-
But, why
-
I can’t wait for that
-
Produce more ps5s maybe
-
don’t do it don’t do it, seriously this game has too much in it to be condensed into a movie especially since the side quests add to the main story
-
ah yes another Tom Cruise epic!
-
What will they think of next?
-
Can’t wait to see real life Jin John Wick some foo’s
-
This could actually work
-
I just downloaded ghosts for the first time now that I have a ps5 and this movie news has me hype.
-
Face Of Tsushima haha
-
All we need is Keanu to join
-
Well, I’m sure it will be better than the TLOU2 adaptation.
Hehehe
-
Oh stop it
-
Enough with the damn movies.
-

-
Please play it. It’s so fucking stellar
-
Man, I’d love to be an extra in a movie like this. Finally have a chance to use my Kendo and Japanese skills at the same time!
-
Tbh, all I hope is they pick an Asian for the main character, a Japanese would be the best.

Too bad they couldn’t put in the effort to have the Japanese voice acting synch with the characters mouths then
