The CPU side is superb. The GPU not so much anymore. Especially the Video Decode
isn’t up to standard anymore as supporting AV1 is a must if you want something future-proof. -
I hope they will put RDNA instead if Vega architecture on the GPU side of those chips. It would be very power efficient and gives decent performance at 1080p gaming. The already existing APU can run most AAA at 900p by using the Vega core.
APU with RDNA cores, would be a killer product for entry level light gaming PC! No need to get an expensive power-hungry dedicated GPU for most people. Not to mention HTPC/console PC market that would kill for this kind of product. No dedicated GPU mean, less power hungry, and way smaller form factor!

Well some improvements but honestly not much imho. The big thing is going to be AMD locking sales to OEMs and system integrators only or letting retail finally buy these.
Cause while yeah you can buy anything on the grey market, limiting APU sales just to OEMs is so fucking stupid in a year when graphics cards can cost up to 300% MSRP.
I understand they want the pure chips to sell and I understand they're likely smacking every lower binned GPU core they have straight to consoles, but both the move to focus on enterprise more than consumer channels and to limit sales of APUs to OEMs is so fucked for us normal customers...

Would something like a 5600g be similar to a 5600x but with a igpu?
I really miss having an igpu as a backup just in case GPU dies. Kinda why I liked having intel CPU

Most of the reasons for this are less cache on the APUs and also iGPU taking up power, ram, and other resources. It’s weird APU seem to perform a little better when a discreet gpu is plugged in. Nothing you would notice outside a benchmark but there is drop in performance

ID: gt1afrcThe R9 290 is quite a bit more powerful than these will be. I expect Cezanne on desktop to be about a GTX 1050/RX 560 in performance and the R9 290 is like a GTX 1060/RX 580

That halved L3 cache has proven to cause it to inherit some of zen 2’s weaknesses in laptops. Cezanne absolutely TANKS in far cry 5 compared to even 6 core intel.

I think its just that Far Cry is optimized for Intel. Heck even my old 2500k runs that thing butter smooth.

Regardless, Vermeer performs well there. Which means it’s cezanne’s lack of cache.

8 cores + gpu in 65 watts may underpower the gpu seeing as it also has to power the 8 cores...

It shouldn't- Lucienne laptop iGPUs have shown that they are now able to run games at ~1500Mhz at just 15W total APU power, and ~2000MHz at just 20W (again, that is including the CPU). So 65W should be plenty even for full load on CPU + gaming at the same time.

Plus on desktop it's easy to OC and set the allowed wattage up. For mediocre use this will be more than enough. For some kind of gaming I'd put some descent cooler on it and go around 90-120 Watts. Still super low for CPU and GPU but should remove the bottle neck from the system. Then it's all about memore speed, I guess.

I have a 4750g, 65w power doesn’t mean anything on APUs. Without touching CPU voltage and just overclock the memory and increasing gpu core voltage and frequency the my 4750g does 125-150w easily on like a folding at home workload. The thing will pull all the power your vrms can give it

I mean, the 4700G used in OEM Machines do ok. Don’t forget that all Ryzen Desktop CPUs are unlocked so you could increase the voltage and clock speed

Eh, given their laptop 5000 chip release was full of Zen2 products I wouldn't hold out for these being particularly interesting. I'll bet the 5300 is a Zen2.

it's a good card for non-gaming with it's 4GB VRAM. Manufacturing restarted this year so support should continue for some time. The NVENC doesn't seem to have changed that much:

A 5600G with 128GByte ram on a B450 = a cheap and strong virtualization server. I dont need 5 series motherboard fatures if the cpu i pciE3 -
But the storage is PCIe2.0 on B450. Its PCIe3.0 on A520.

it doesn't matter in reality I'd say.
So far I haven't seen ssd storage being the bottleneck in a generic virtualization box. It's ram almost every time with some rare nic ones as exceptions
If a lot of high speed storage is needed i would go far a HBA card in a 4 or 8 lane slot

APUS are so great already, all we need is RAM to catch up, or have it's own small pool of memory like the small devil's canyon line.

I'm very interested to see how idle power consumption is on the 5000g series though, as I already can trust performance is great.
Has I/O die been 7nm on the 4000g series or is this new for 5000g?

Funny think is that best available APU that you can buy now is Rocket lake 🙂 I don't have high hopes that this will be released also for DIY market only OEM. They need to release non-x Zen 3 first ...

Oh Yeah! Now its going to be interesting. Intels 12th. gen is rumored to be a big jump forward while AMD is progressing on its design which already had its big jump. Cant wait to see whats coming :popcorn:

GPU is overpriced to hell and back right now thx to FU-Covid. The only lógical option are to be APUs but are nowhere to be seen.
My case in Peru: Best bang for buck CPU is the zen2 Ryzen 3100 4c/8t for $145. 3500X 6c/6t for $205 and 3600 6c/12t for $265
In a few stores I can find the 3400G for $220 (before covid it was $180), in most of the others $350+ LOL
2nd hand: Questionable Ryzen 3600 for $135 OEM tray 3600 for $160 Boxed 3600 $200
Minimal proper GPU I can find is the 1650 super for $260
"Cheapo gpu options" are the GT710 or the GT1030 for over $100 and worst than the 3400G iGPU.
I would gladly pay $220-250 for a 4650G.

I was waiting on the 5700g, but I think I'll wait for am5 apus instead, since I gave my am4 platform away.

I would hope at least they would support more than 8 compute units, like the 11 CU 3400G. They need to have a desktop part with at least 16-18 CUs to at least do lower end with enough functionality for modest gaming, but still remain cost effective. They also need to break away from the Vega cores and look into pushing Navi technology.

You’re going to have to wait until at least the next generation to see a change in graphics architecture. There’s no way that these chips are going to be using RDNA given that they’re basically the same silicon as the mobile variants.
