Back when I didn't have to worry about GPUs not fitting simply because I want drive bays.

But to be honest i never had worry in the now 13 years i build PCs for me and Friends.
The reason is i never used Micro ATX Cases for Gaming rigs.

But finding these days a case with more then 3 Places for 3,5" drives is difficult. But who actually uses more than 2 HDDs at all these days ?

Good comparison. I have ATI X300 and X700 SE and still in a good shape. But I can compare it only to AMD R9 270. So ATI X700 SE vs AMD R9 270 is almost like AMD R9 270 vs AMD RX 6700 XT.

My RX 6800 is a giant, pulled out my 1070Ti and put it on the table and put the RX 6800 next to it and the 1070Ti was just over half the size.

I have memories of the R770Pro that I had to go get to replace the god awful FX 5700 I had which was artifacting in many games.
