Bloom, lens flare, chromatic aberration, lens distortion... just no. These are *camera* effects, and they should never be in a game where you're using human type eyes.

But on a serious note: The bloom/lens flare effects do make some sense (sometimes) because they are compensating for a lack of dynamic range. In other words, since the brightest value they can show is a dim white, they use other techniques to simulate brightness.

At least the remaster bundles all of the DLC except Pinnacle Station. Wasn't a way to get all DLC at a discount. PC version might have additional ways to change things(like Reshade or tweaking Nvidia/AMD settings), but then mod support will only happen if mods are ported ove

since UE3 subversion changed, and ME1 is much different game now, for better or worse.

That being said, it is annoying that the art direction gets ignored (though sometimes that was through hardware limitation, but overdoing camera effects and/or sloppy retexturing and modelling distracts a lot).

while I agree that the original trilogy was sometimes dark for no reason, if they don't do a better job of nailing the shadows all they're doing is highlighting the bad models and textures. Sure they've improved due to upscaling, but they're still outdated, and slapping some extra brightness on them just makes them look worse.

Yeah when I was watching that trailer I was thinking to myself, "oh that does look pretty good" then realized I was looking at the original. Not sure if I'm dumb, or if that's just a testament to how well they did with the original game.

They didn't change brightness on anything, they "fixed" lighting by making it energy conserving (i.e. physically based rendering). The most obvious immediate effect is that light actually looks more realistic and way more consistent across all settings. Here's a very clear demonstration of what this translates to, visually.
