Civ 3 and 4 were such a large part of my life growing up. It’s amazing to think you can now get both for a combined total of 9 bucks.

Between them you could probably spend a few lifetimes and not get bored.

question for Civ fans in the thread. I was a late bloomer and didnt start playing until civ 5. would civ 4 be fun to try and play for someone who has only played 5 and 6?

Homeworld remastered for $3.49 is a steal. Still one of my favorite series of all time.

Steam has XCOM & XCOM 2 Ultimate bundles which are great if you already have most of the games + DLC and are only missing a few - Its 80-90% off depending on if you only need the DLC, like this

I'm disappointed that Neowin didnt include it.

RDR2 is also 33% off on Humble, and it stacks with the Choice discount.

Wingman was 20$ on steam for me and 24 was the normal price

Shitty thing about G0G is that it stays in an online library and cannot be transferred to steam, that I know of.

If something is available on both Steam and GOG what would you pick? I haven't used GOG yet (just getting back into gaming and none of the few games I've got yet is available on it) but I like helping out the underdog and also I like that they are DRM free.

Asked another way, are there any cons to choosing GOG? Are they missing any crucial features that Steam provides?

Literally same here! Been eyeing it for a while, and it clicked with all 4 of us. A great combination of simplicity but depth and progression. Good casual game to play that still gets plenty hectic at times.

I played during the free weekend and liked it a lot. Unfortunately it crashed twice during missions. Running on Linux with Proton. If anyone runs on Linux and has figured out a fix for crashes, I would be interested.

The sequel seems to be in development hell unfortunately.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines is one of the best games I have ever played. It was a buggy mess when I first played it but I loved every second.

Easily one of the greatest games of all time.

I have no idea how well Pirates! have aged, but that was probably the game I spent the most time with on my Commodore 64 and later Amiga 500/1200.
It was fun to build up an entire fleet of ships, search for treasures, hunt down ships and plunder towns. As well as searching for your lost family and in turn search for a huge Inca treasure.
During a war between the Spanish and Holland, I ended up attacking more than half of the Spanish towns and installed a Dutch ruler.
So I have great memories of the old original versions of the game, but again, don't know if it have aged well at all (I never tried the Gold versions as I strongly disliked the graphics style)

The most noticeable thing is the graphics being a little dated but the gameplay is still pretty fun. I’d say it’s worth $2.50 for sure.

I think people are underselling it - it's still considered the gold standard for pirate games, and it hasn't been matched to this day. Assassin's Creed Black Flag is the only game that has approached it in terms of quality naval pirate combat.

It's solid fun. Way better than any pirate game released since.

Great but doesn't work right in modern screens cause it's designed for 1600x1200 and the resolution patches don't really fix it

It's one of the great classics of computer gaming. I somehow still have my Commodore 64 version with the cool map. The Commodore itself is long gone though.

I played the remake some years ago and it's a great update fairly true to the original.

It's fantastic and one of my favourite games. There are also some visual overhauls on Nexusmods if it looks too dated for you

My only complain is that by how light the game is I’d prefer to play it on a mobile console like PSP. On the pc seems kinda out of his waters but still a good game

Game is ridiculously difficult but so amazing once you get past the 40-hour learning curve.

Bought it in a past sale and I can't get into 'cause all the time missions. Maybe I need to give it a new chance

I seriously recommend the soldier class mods on the workshop like necromancer, akimbo, samurai, and Jedi. It was like playing with a new expansion.

Never been able to finish it. Every time I play it it just feels like brown Skyrim with guns. And Skyrim is still the best Skyrim..

I'd recommend it, but just don't go into thinking it's going to be a "classic" Fallout game. It's more of a shooter than a true RPG, but it does have RPG elements. Great mod support, halfway decent story (can get dumb at parts), and the exploration is better than what you'd find in Skyrim (IMO), meaning that not every dungeon is a copy+paste. There's actually a lot more variety when you're exploring random areas and deciding to clear map markers.

For the price, it's worth the amount of time you'll get out of it. I bought it at full price at launch and I still do a playthrough occasionally.

Go install a bunch of mods, make the game so much fun, there is a ton of missions and dlc to download

As someone who loved the previous fallout games I would say it's okay-ish as a standalone post apocalyptic rpg but kind of bland and forgettable. Narratively it's pretty bad. Mechanically it's decent if shallow. Very light on RP and the dialogue choices are often inconsequential or what's said doesn't make any sense given the text version you selected, a lot of inconsistency there. It's biggest strength I'd say is atmosphere.

It could be fun for a weekend but knowing what I know now I wouldn't spend more than $15 on it and even then only if I was really jonesing specifically for new fallout content.

This is a great game for anyone wanting a post apocalyptic open world that tells a story more than the main story itself, is interested in crafting or settlement mechanics, and is somewhat forgiving of the occasional bugs.

Wavering on any of those 3 or expecting FNV or FO3 may not merit buying this game on sale.

So worth it with the sheer amount of mods out there for it. It really just is a sandbox you can do whatever you want with. Easy $10

I went back to it during 2020, really solid game.

I got it few weeks ago. Story and graphics are meh, but I'm spending awful lot of time collecting junk from random locations and using it to upgrade my settlements. Also, it's still buggy even with unofficial patch.

I just put over 100hours in to it. Best way to play it is not hammer the main quest. Just explore and do things and you find them. Honestly for how cheap it is... you are bound to get your moneys worth even if you only play a few hours

This one baffles me. The collection has Splinter Cell, Chaos Theory, Conviction, Double Agent, and Blacklist but it doesn't have the brilliant Pandora Tomorrow. Why would it omit that one?

Because PT hasn't been available for digital download in like, forever. It has broken lighting on modern hardware, which can be patched via community mods, but I guess the developers don't want to incorporate it.

Worth it and more. Fantastic game!

Easily GOTY, even for people who normally don't like roguelikes.

Short version: absolutely.

Longer version: it's a rogue like. As others point out, the basic gameplay loop consists of starting a run, getting random powerups, get as far as you can until you die, start over. Use some resources you collected on your run to upgrade, hopefully giving you an edge on your next run.

It is not the most mechanically varied rogue like on the market (though there's plenty to learn and master here), but where it really shines is that it's got that story and polish Supergiant is known for. Every character is fully voice acted, and has what feels like hundreds of hours of dialog. There are relationships, character arcs, and slowly unfolding stories that make this world feel like a living (lol) place. Even once you "beat" it the first time, the story isn't done, giving you further reasons to dive back in time and time again.

I'm not a huge fan of rogue likes, so I avoided it for a long time, but once I picked it up I got sucked in hard for a few months, and have only just got the point where I feel like I've finally seen most everything in the game. If you liked any of their other games, you'll probably enjoy this one as well. There's a reason it was on top of so many GotY lists.

Hades is fun and has nice ambiance but here it is in a nutshell: You start at the beginning and go as far as you can until you die. You respawn at the beginning, this time a little stronger. You do it again. You die. You restart. You die, you restart. Again and again and again.

The thing is, the game is still fun despite the restarting because the dialogue is funny, the powerups are interesting, and you get stronger and better and you go further each time.

Having said all that, I stopped playing after seven hours because I don't want to play the same content over and over and over and over again. But it was game of the year for 2020 so what do I know?

Best roguelike ever made IMHO. Even if you don't like the genre (I don't) it's a must play.
