PlayStation Now will begin rolling out support for streaming 1080p capable games this week. The rollout will occur over the next several weeks across Europe, US, Canada, and Japan, where PlayStation Now is available.

Good to see them upgrading it I’d imagine they will be working extra hard to get this service up to date so it becomes an option for most people and soon hopefully start getting new games made and released straight away for the service.
ID: gvgovc8Yeah, for sure that it is their plan but I feel like the chipset shortage also affected their plans to improve the infrastructure of now because Ryan was talking about this in an interview from 2019 and said that in 2020 they will push the service more.

Well this will at least make streaming a viable option over local versions of some of the non-Pro enhanced games on PS5. If it looks and plays at near-native quality, you can save a lot of storage space if you stream instead of download.

Looks like those 2019 plans from their financial meeting is finally seeing action.
Back in 2019, Sony outlined their Now and Cloud plans. It included things like upgrading the tech to 1080p, expanding Now streaming to other devices outside of PS consoles and PC, increasing the streaming capacity (is currently limited to 5 million), and improving the game catalog.

This is a very necessary update. The next thing is to include games like Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 in the remastered version, instead of the original, to make me say yes to this service.
ID: gvgcmubThis is what's really surprising for me when I looked at the list of games. Makes no sense to me why they didn't just include the uncharted collection along side the original. Those games are old at this point and sales slowed way down.
Same goes for games such as TLoU. Atleast GoW3 is the PS4 version.

This doesn't really change anything to those who own a PS4 or PS5. Ps4 games are downloadable, most ps3 games are 720p, and they don't even add more ps3 games anymore. I guess this is good news for the people who use ps now on PC.

Cool, after this week my annual subscription runs out. But honestly I wouldn't renew it right now. There are just no benefits if you have a PS5.

ID: gvga8jtNot in my experience. I have been playing single player games on it and I don't notice any delay or lag. That being said I'm not sure how a fps would do.

ID: gvgfc9aI just subbed for a year, downloaded some PS2 & PS4 games and streamed Starhawk and a Ratchet & Clank game over WiFi on my PS5, and I honestly didn’t notice any lag streaming. I streamed Infamous on my PC that is wired and it was pretty flawless. I hope an iOS app is coming.

I think we need to organize and put massive pressure on Sony for them to answer why the PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP/PSV library isn't available on PS5.
PSNow not being available on so many countries more than 6 years after it was introduced is absurd. What a terrible plan they had to handle backwards compatibility last gen and it makes zero sense now. Nothing against PSNow existing but it should get in the way of basic features.

Sony again showing how far ahead thy are of the curve. Xcloud was suppose to be better yet all their content has been 720p and only caught up to what Sony has been doing for years. Now Sony will push 1080 also and then xcloud will push it after and act like it's a revelation.

?? Microsoft is changing Xcloud blades this year to Xbox Series X. They've just announced PC games on Xcloud will be using PC components.
Also Xcloud is available everywhere I.e Touch Controls unlike PlayStation Now

Psnow released in 2014 BTW lol and xcloud is still 720p in preview in 2021 smh talking about lil to no advancement.

I hope that this won't have any negative effect on my own use case (streaming to Windows tablet in mediocre WiFi condition).
On that smaller screen the current stream already looked really good, so I hope 720p will still be possible on PC (an option would be great). For Stadia for example, setting the stream at 720p gives me a lot smoother performance than when I'm set at 1080p. So I hope that intentionally choosing 720p will be an option for PSNow following this (or that the 1080p wouldn't give me more stutter).

has anybody else been surprised at the usability of their streaming? I've used multiple game streaming platforms and it really surprises me that for anything outside of like.. DMC or street fighter, it's actually playable!

It’s only going to get more stable, 5 years from now having the ability to play any of your console games anywhere you want is going to be sweet, and companies are full steam ahead on this front

1080p is a stepping stone.. 4k streaming is still in its infancy and internet/mobile infrustructure is lacking in a lot of places.

4k? You do know stadia wasn't even streaming 4k most of the time, it is very demanding. Xcloud came out years later than psnow and has only been doing 720p like psnow which psnow been doing for years. It's not tht simple, 1080p is a gd advancement.

4k is around 10x more demanding than 720p if I'm not mistaken. Our infrastructure probably isn't there yet to have it 24/7 for everyone everywhere.

You realize these systems are going to be around until at least 2027 right. That 8k was more about saying there will be support of some type when it becomes common. Which means more than likely video content.

You can already download games on PSNOW. All ps4 and PS2 games

You can download every PS4 and PS2 game on a PS4 or PS5. On PC, you can only stream. PS3 games can only be streamed.
