Guys I’m HYPED.
I remember when they first revealed the game at the PS5 reveal and I wasn’t really feeling it at all. It didn’t look bad but it didn’t look like something I would be particularly interested in and the PS5/potentially seeing GoW:R/etc outweighed everything else.
But man, every time I have seen anything else about the game I get increasingly more interested in it and now I’ve gotten to the point where I’m scrolling through the Returnal hashtag on Twitter trying to find some other preview saying how much they like it.
I’m stoked for this game. And yes, before 100+ people start complaining about the price, I will gladly pay for it day 1.

The gameplay looks immense but I'm not going to watch any more of it so I can go in with fresh eyes.

What do you guys think would constitute a successful launch, in Sony's eyes?
Personally if they hit 300-500k during launch week, I think that would be huge.
Bloodborne was a brand new, super challenging IP, released in the first 18 months of the PS4 and it sold 1m copies during launch week, with an install base of 22m.
Returnal selling 300k+ would be a similar attach rate and it has a lower profile than Bloodborne, which launched on the back of Dark Souls etc.
Anyway, got my copy ordered and I cannot wait!

ID: gvu8at4It’s hard to say what would be a successful launch since there’s only so many consoles available. Most definitely Sony isn’t going to be as interested in day/week one purchases and will be more interested in how well it sells over time. Miles Morales has been in the top 5 games every month since release. So while it didn’t sell 5mil copies in a week like other Sony exclusives, it’s obviously selling well with how many consoles have been sold.
ID: gvubcevBloodborne has a much bigger name than Returnal but the fact that it’s pretty dry in terms of PS5 exclusives at the moment will really help I think. Lots of people seem to be down to get it or preorder it before reviews even come out according to this poll. Once reviews come out and if it happens to score very well then I think it’s gonna be a success.
ID: gvuuybiI mean it does have things going for it. First AAA rogueLite. First actual next gen exclusive that no one has played before, new IP, dry period. I think their expectations should be higher ? however it is a roguelte.. the difficulty might turn some people off. This game is almost guaranteed to be more difficult than the soul series.

I went from being mildly interested to having it preordered and downloaded onto my PS5. The gameplay that has come out this past week looks fantastic!

I saw the gameplay previews over the past week so I'm sure I'll have fun with the game whether it turns out "good" or "bad" in the end (whatever that means...) so I sprang for the pre-order. If you're not as sure then nothing wrong with waiting for more reviews, videos, and/or a sale that brings the price down to a more reasonable level for you.

I want to preorder a physical copy but Amazon US is saying the delivery date will be around mid-May...I might cave and preorder it digitally despite being a huge physical disc guy. This game just looks phenomenal.
ID: gvuk36tI was in the same boat. Ended up ordering from Walmart who is offering release day delivery. They treated me well with the system pre-order arriving as promised on release day.

I'm genuinely concerned about the amount of content there can be in a roguelike to justify spending 70 dollars. Otherwise it looks really fun.

There’s something about the way the main character makes observations out loud that I find surprisingly compelling. I feel like she will be a good companion on this journey and I feel safe with her, which is odd given she’s basically Bill Murray’s character in Groundhog Day when he’s just killing himself over and over.

Preordered. This game ticks all of the boxes for me.
Im addicted to roguelites and It's really nice to have a big AAA one to play.
I love the challenge, the replayability, the randomized items, the different runs.
I also love tps and it is the first tps roguelite to my knowledge that exists.
What more... I also love shmups and bullet hell type gameplay and this one has it but in 3D...
To top it off, the ambiance looks amazing, bit of a cosmic horror vibe, the exploration and scanning looks fantastic.
Also finally a game that uses the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback!!
I hope that sony will give us more dark and challenging games, so far there's been a bit too much casual /cute games for my tastes.

ID: gvua3llDepends on the Distributor Where did you order? I saw Target for example shipping on release day and delivery dates going 3-4 business days thereafter. Could come sooner. Just depends where you are in the world.
There's a Brick and Mortar store that gets new releases a day or so early. I might stop in there to get it, otherwise I'll get it at a pickup elsewhere.

My only worry is that the game will lack in the weapon/powerup/mod area. I hope there are hundreds of things to find and unlock, as my favourite roguelites feature loads of these things. Otherwise I can't wait for Returnal.
