- Custom 6800/6900XT Single Slot PCIe Bracket
-
I watercooled my 6900XT recently, and wanted to use a single-slot PCIe bracket so I can run more fans in my tiny ITX case. I couldn't find one anywhere so I decided to make my own. I took measurements of the stock PCIe bracket and modified it into a single-slot size, with design adjustments to suit 3D printing. I printed my custom PCIe bracket out of carbon nylon(PA12+CF15), which is pretty much the strongest material I can get my hands on, and I think it turned out pretty well!
More details of my build here.

I miss fast single slot cards
ID: gvvc3hgYour comment sent me down a rabbit hole. Off the top of my head I was thinking the last high-ish end single-slot cards were probably the 9800 GT or the HD 3850. Then I found a friggin' GTX 1070 single slot card!
Couldn't believe it! Definitely not as fast as a full fat GTX 1070 since it only takes a single 8-pin power connector, but I'm really glad there are still companies out there making the effort.
ID: gvvckzsWOW!! I was convinced it was the Ti 4600, or maybe the GeForce FX line, like the 5700 Ultra

Nice! Thankfully the block from EK that I bought had one of these included.
ID: gvuqrquWas about to post the same thing as I have a EK block too!

Really cool! Glad you got it to work!

How do you ground the card properly? Isn't the bracket usually used to contact the PCB's ground with the chassis?
ID: gvu494wI believe most GPUs are grounded through the power supply via the PCIe cables. Otherwise acrylic cases would never work, and the grounding connection would also be really unreliable because it would be dependent on a small amount of contact pressure between the case and the PCIe bracket.
ID: gvu4dcmOk, fair point
ID: gvu4gyhThe card is still grounded through the pcie cables and the slot. The motherboard screws ground the chassis.
ID: gvu595uYes, on second thought the slot is the obvious possibility. The cable is also possible, but that's quiet a long run to 'clean' ground.
ID: gvud6xathats just the 'safety ground', there shouldn't be any meaningfull currents going through it under normal operation. The ground wires in the pcie power plug and pcie slot are for the normal operation currents, the case contact is just a safety feature (it goes back to the yellow/green wire screwed onto the psu casing itself from the mains socket. lower right corner:

I always use 2+ slot gpus but hell... it looks super slick!

That's dope! 🙂

And back in the day we just cut something off 😀
