With Rift Apart around the corner I figured it's the perfect time to post this. Ratchet and Clank is a staple series for Sony. They really need to find a way to bring the older games to this new generation especially considering Rift Apart is a sequel in the long running series. I would literally pay so much for a collection like that or each game individually as long as they're on that system.

Yeah, backwards compatibility would be great. I don’t care what their “metrics” are for it - having access to “old” games would benefit the consumer.
ID: gvsofi2It’s one of the reasons I have a Series X. There’s a number of games from the Xbox 360 era that I missed out on and almost all of them are playable on the Series X.
I have a PS5, and so far what I’ve been using it was to catch up on the PS4 games (as I missed out on the entire generation). If it wasn’t for backwards compatibility with PS4 games, a PS5 would be useless for the time being.

All of the PS2 era game collections that are on PS3 should get a native PS5 re-release, at least. R&C Collection first ofc, lol. If they did give them the ole Medieval treatment, I'd be pleasantly surprised, though.
ID: gvrtuf7MediEvil was a full on remake, I highly doubt we'll see that done with the entire OG trilogy. 2016 game was the closest we'll get, especially since modern Insomniac now thinks the original PS2 release is now "cringey".

Ratchet & Clank is what introduced me to videogames in the early PS2 days. It's one of my favourite franchise period. The fact that we're getting a brand new canon entry in 2021 is still hard to believe for me since all other similar franchises like Sly and Jak got shelved. With that said, I really agree with you since a lot of playstation fans got their introduction to the franchise with the 2016 game and its one of the most watered down game in the whole franchise. They should treat it like the Nathan Drake trilogy. Remastered games on one disk with a few QOL improvements. Or at the very least bring all the games to ps now ffs.

ID: gvr69bf2016 is weak because it messes up the story and the humor. They also removed two levels. What made the first few games special was the crude humor and jokes about capitalism. The remake throws that out, makes ratchet less of an ass and more of a hero, and adds a character who wasn't in the original game as a villain. I did not like it one bit. Gameplay is fine. But the only reason that game exists was to have a tie in to push the movie, which flopped.

Emulators aren't perfect, but Sony could easily make emulators if they wanted to, and probably much better ones than independent developers could. Sales of older games would more than pay for it, so I don't know why they don't do it.
ID: gvrl0p5I'm 100% sure the PS5 can emulate the PS3, the PS4 really couldn't cause the Jaguar CPU would really struggle.
But still it will take massive resources to develop and properly test an emulator, but I think would be so worth for the fans, they have so many now forgotten games and franchises like Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank OG games, God of War OG games, Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm, Metal Gear Solid 4... Even 3rd party games like Dead Space, Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption 1.

Or better yet, add a way to emulate PS3 games (digital or disc) so that people who own the classics they love can play them on their new systems instead of hauling out and plugging in their old systems

I'd love to see them do a remastered collection of the older games released on PS4/5. Just no more remakes in the vein of the 2016 one, hopefully.

They could port the first 4 since they’re on PS2. They did it with the Jak games. I’m actually a bit surprised they haven’t did it yet with R&C.

God, Up Your Arsenal was such a good game. I wish I could replay that on PS5.

I'm fairly confident that they could get an emulator running on the PS5 for PS1-3 games. We could insert our discs or access our digital games. Then they could continue selling these games to us.

Deadlocked was one of my favorites. I didn't like the story as much as the other games, but man. The weapons, items, suits, and game play was what won it over for me. Beat that game dozen plus times over
