Hey y'all, just jumped off of nVidia into a 6700 xt, cause hey, it was pretty cheap for great specs, little did i realize that while games play great, all my creative apps are unstable as hell now, Blender crashes every 10 minutes, 3DS max render times are doubled, Unreal is doing this weird fish eye thing, it sucks.
But i'm seeing so many creative renders and model posts that i feel i must be doing something wrong, am i missing something? how are all you creative types working with your software with these cards?

You are gonna be waiting a while for a fix, that is for sure.
ID: gw8g1cmID: gw8i8i6just to 'ask' the obvious, you are using the 21.4.1?
-
Did you try uninstalling your previous nvidia drivers using DDU? If not give it a try.
ID: gw8652xno I have not but that sounds like a good idea, I'll try when I get home and report
ID: gw8bctvalways DDU, power up into safe mode, install drivers, reboot.

my secret is that my Vega's crystal died and I've got RTX 2060s, so the torment is over.
you can try using AMD's renderer in Blender, but it wasn't great back then, and it wasn't compatible with Cycles nodes. no idea about Unreal.
ID: gw861ocit's not great now either T-T I'm seriously considering just getting a 1080 for rendering cause this is a nightmare
ID: gw8hqoxRecommended. Although its nice to be able to support the underdog (for those that wish to, that is), don't do so at the cost of stability and feature set if it causes you this type of headache.

I'm using a 6900XT with blender. I had some issues at first but I think they've mostly stabilized. Now i only occasionally have crashes when loading kernels in cycles -rare like once a week if i use blender every day. The openCL implementation is slower than cuda or optix for sure, but it's definitely not unusable. Still significantly faster than CPU rendering.
My concern is with the upcoming Cycles-X renderer that's being pegged for the blender 3.0 releases they're removing OpenCL entirely, so no AMD or intel GPUs support for that. They've said they're working with AMD and Intel to get compatibility added, but theres no word on what that might involve. The point was to remove outdated functionality, but it just feels like yet another """open""" software deciding to get locked into nvidia's closed system. This shit is precisely why I'm trying to avoid nvidia in the first place jfc.
Im uneducated on this, but wasnt Cycles using an old version of opencl? 1.4 or something and the reason they didnt move to opencl 2.0 is because nvidia didnt support it?

I use Lumion on an undervolted 5700 XT, no problems even with 4K videos that take several hours to render. Driver 20.12.1, haven't tried any newer.
ID: gw86a42hmm, maybe it's a problem with bringing in projects that were started with different cards, do you use radeon prorender?
ID: gw8aecnThat's not a thing.

Yeah AMD is awful for 3D rendering in terms of compatibility. I wish I had known that when I got my 5700 as a hold over for the next gen back in early 2020. I would have got a 2080 or 2080ti had I known the future.
My system works great for the actual modeling part in rhino I just can’t use the gpu for accelerated rendering because vray uses CUDA exclusively. I emailed chaos group and asked if or when I could expect compatibility and they said they have no current plans to reintroduce OpenCL to vray.

welcome to radeon

sure seems like it, guess I can just render in eevee till then
