I've not even seen the video yet. I'm not going to click on the like button or subscribe unless I actually like the content and want to see more.

ID: gwpz3wyI really appreciate that sentiment and will always prefer a video that gets right to the point over obnoxious ones like this.
However I also understand that simply reminding people to like the video is an effective way to get them to do so. As long as it’s an unobtrusive reminder preferably at the end I’m not going to mind. A loud and meandering one right at the start though is an instant click away.

I have to say tho, sometimes I find content subscription-worthy, but I forget to actually subscribe because my mind is considering something, or I'm looking for the next video, etc. Hence, I dont mind the terms "if you enjoyed the video, please subscribe" and "if youre subscribed, hit the bell". Its the other stuff around that that's over the top

ID: gwpzklzI'm very frugal with the subscribe button. YT is my main source for "television" like entertainment so I can't have my sub page be riddled with a thousand channels. It takes alot for me to sub to someone. I need to find myself binge watching their content over a period of months before I even consider it.
ID: gwq38c7That blurb isn't there for you though. It's for the people that regularly watch channels and don't like/sub to them. A LOT of people have favorite channels, watch them repeatedly and don't interact with them at all. No likes, no subscribe, no comments. They show up for every new episode and leave.
Getting regular watchers to interact is what they're trying to do, not pick up random people that have dropped in for a single video. They're talking directly to the people that already know what they're in for.
I know it's weird and counter-intuitive but youtube's metrics are real and eye-opening for how a large portion of audiences work.

I do my intro calmly, explain what I'm going to do, continue on as normal, and then at the end of the video I ask for likes and subs.
Too many youtubers speak in all caps and I absolutely hate that.

This is why I always look for text answers to my questions rather than videos.
ID: gwpzk5gI still use gamefaqs guides but recently I tend more to steam community guides because they are often laid out better and easier to navigate.
ID: gwq1s3o100% this, text and screen shots for map locations, directions that need visuals, important landmarks, markers for puzzles, or whatever. Way better than videos you need to remind/skip through (especially the nonsense subscribe and follow shit, but if I'm midway through a section and I skip ahead too far or something and get confused, blah). Ok, rant over, I agree with ya!

If you want to know how to do a puzzle, google is your friend. If you want an entertaining series of someone playing a game, go on YouTube
ID: gwpwveuIt's getting harder to just find a walkthrough with text and photos though. Lots have ads or stupid "click to the next page" style format, and many just link to a video of the information.

1980 - 2000: Read a walkthrough guide (book, magazine) that costs almost as much as the game or call a tip-line that charges by the minute like it's phone sex except with Wario instead of Princess Peach and there is no happy ending, just the sad knowledge that you spent $13.99 to get past one level 2000 - 2010(ish): The golden age of Gamefaqs, wikis, and online walkthroughs where people took the time to contribute text and pictures that let you rapidly find every hidden easter egg and secret as fast as your Google could fu.

No matter how long the video the information you are looking for generally starts 1/3rd of the way through.

Even if I love a content creator on you tube there is not a reality that exists in which I’m gonna “smash that Bell icon.” The last thing I want is notifications on my phone that a 45 minute to hour long you tube video is available right now for my immediate attention.

The only way I will like a video right at the beginning is if I’m already subscribed and I know for a fact that I will get proper quality content from the channel.
