Marcus Fenix from Gears of War. He is the definition of a tragic character.
(SPOILERS!)
Lost his dad. Got thrown into prison because of his dad, only to be released years later so he can fight in a war. Lost pretty much most of his friends fighting said war, including his best friend who sacrificed himself. Reunited with his dad, only to lose him again. After the war his wife dies while giving birth. His only son grows up resenting him and they grow apart. Once his son finally starts connecting with him, (depending on player's choice) he dies.
