It's the future of gaming tbh.
At least flat-screen gaming.
I don't expect the sweaty competitive games to be using immersive haptic feedback anytime soon unless it's giving them a gameplay advantage but for single player games? It's revolutionary.
Returnal uses the Dualsense even more than Astrobot. It's tightly woven into the design of the game. Through haptic feedback you get important information like trying to fire your alt fire too early, when your alt fire is ready, you feel the rain drops as they hit selene, and every gun/ player / enemy interaction just feels more solid
It's incredibly hard to describe unless you are playing the game for several hours but I tried playing it with the dualsense "mute" function and I just stopped. The game feels suddenly empty, hollow. Like something inexplicable is missing. It's just not the same game without it!
Then adaptive triggers come to play and essentially turn the dualsense into a dual stage trigger. Kinda like the GameCube or steam.controller. For pc gamers a dual stage trigger is a rarity and the fact that the dualsense can efficiently turn into one just through software and hardware is amazing imho
I just tried the Scarlet nexus demo and although no way in hell I'm gonna buy it full price it also uses the adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and even 3d sound! Real well. Try it if you will.

The dualsense makes you sound like a salesman and make it sound like a gimmick, until they actually try it. I had my family members try out my dualsense and they were blown away by it. It sounds really weird to say "you can feel like you're walking on ice or sand in playroom" until you actually try it, same with the zipping segment and the rocket part. After playing Astros playroom I won't lie, it's a bit hard to be as immersed in other games. Hopefully first party studios utilize it a lot, it's a new dimension to experiencing gaming.
ID: gzvdw07ID: gzvkscpI intentionally put off doing my third Cyberpunk playthrough just to wait for the ps5 version. Fingers crossed the devs will make good use of those features.
ID: gzvpb9vLol every time I try to describe how ice skating feel in astro to someone who has never tried the dualsense I feel like they are looking at me like what the F did this guy smoke.

Returnal secondary fire mode should be copied by any and every FPS/TPS from here on onwards. The way L2 locks for aiming and further pressing it down for the alt fire is a thing of marvel. It made me a believer. I'm a HUGE fan of the adaptive trigger implementation in the game. The haptics are also so amazingly precise. I own all consoles and honestly this is the best controller by a mile. I do like the asymetric Xbox layout but after using the Dualsense, I just feel like I've downgraded big time anytime I turn back to the Xbox controller.
Sony needs to be applauded for taking such a massive leap. This is the biggest 'next gen' feature. Not the graphics but actually feeling more through your hands.
ID: gzuyhc1Imagine all the crazy stuff Psycho Mantis would do with it...
ID: gzvuhwcYea but how would you plug it into to controller port #2? WHERE IS THAT?
ID: gzvkypzOne thing I wished they did was remove the L2 trigger lock whenever not in actual gameplay. Like when you’re in the house and try to use L2 to zoom in the trigger still has the resistance to it
ID: gzvpg5aDamn! I’m not interested enough in the genre to get this game right now, but I’ll be anxiously awaiting a deal after these praises. I loved what the dualsense did with astro and miles morales. Very excited to see the haptics implemented in more games.
ID: gzwk59qThis was my first rougelike game and I'm not someone who actively seeks out difficult games. I absolutely fell in love with the game. Easily my GOTY so far. Buy it eventually when you're comfortable with it and stick with it. Most people who hate it drop it after the first few deaths. Death is part of the game and you won't even see the complete story if you don't die often or open all the gun traits. I keep on going in for more again and again. They've nailed the gameplay loop.
ID: gzvj73vI hated it at first, but by my 3rd or 4th run it just became second nature. Really a gamechanger
-
I can't wait to play Gran Turismo on this controller. That's my thought when playing around with Astrobot and Returnal, omg what does this mean for GT? Lol
ID: gzvrpeaHaving Wreckfest free made me hyped for a real racing game to implement haptics. The first time the antilock brakes kicked in my butthole puckered up just like it does in real life.
-
I was just explaining this to all my non PS5 friends. But they just don’t understand, how important the dual sense is until they experience it. It really does amplify the entire experience.
Not just the triggers, the haptic feedback is also key to making it work perfectly.
ID: gzusr3rI’ve had 2 or 3 mates come round to try my PS5 after I’d spent months telling them about how good adaptive triggers/haptics are. All of their faces lit up the first time they played something, it really is a ‘seeing is believing’ kind of thing. They’re TOO good
-
This is what can make stuff like Horizon excel on ps5 even though it’s also for PS4.
ID: gzv9v8xI'm excited to see what they do with Spider-Man man with time to really utilize the PS5 and the DS. Miles Morales was a step towards that but I'm excited to see what's next.
ID: gzvuofxCan you imagine how much time and testing it must take for them to finalize the haptics for a new Spiderman? That'll be one of the most immersive aspects of swinging if they do it right
ID: gzuwnsaI’m so excited for the bow gameplay on the dual sense controller! I just hope my fingers don’t get tired.
-
3D audio was good too.
ID: gzvlakrThe audio design in this game was fantastic. They better win some damn awards for that.
-
Returnal has had the best use for the reactive triggers. Them being incorporated into the weapon fire modes was great.
ID: gzu975rWreckfest is cool too, the more damaged your car gets, the harder it is to pull the gas or brake triggers
ID: gzueivgWRC 9 does a rad job of using the triggers for gas and braking. Hope all racing games implement it in such a nice way going forward.
-
Whenever I play a ps4 game I wish there was a ps5 version instead. So many great features on this console.
-
Returnal does not use the dual sense more than Astro bot
ID: gzvwsw8Agreed. Astro has more diversity in effects too.
-
I just picked this game up tonight. Not really my typical sort of game, but I'm having a ton of fun with it. It has the best use of the controller I've played outside of Astro's, and the gameplay is super addictive
-
Sony really pushed the boat out with this controller. Adore it.
-
Feeling the rain drops gave it a great immersion feel.
-
I need to try out the Scarlet Nexus demo.
-
Just finished scarlet nexus demo on ps5, same opinion here, dualsence is the biggest and the most significant advantage compares to other platforms imo, have to admit xsx has higher teraflops, pc=higher framrates and flexibility, but I'm sticking to ps5.

It is a good controller but we need gyro aiming to be a standard option. Honestly when it works well it just feels SO good!
ID: gzts0k9Agreed. I actually use the dualsense with pc through steam and I use gyro with every shooter. Works great.
ID: gztunwgAhhh nice! I just saw this clip. Is that you? Nice aim.
If you have tried both, is the Dualsense better than Dualshock with respect to gyro aiming on PC? And what button if any are you using to activate the gyro?
ID: gztsuiwAgreed. I get the impression that people who hate on gyro aiming so hard don’t really understand what people are talking about.
What gyro aiming isn’t: pointing a controller at the screen, making giant movements with your arms, a complete removal of the right analog stick.
What gyro aiming is: a supplementary control input for dual stick aiming. You play the game like normal, but use tiny movements of the controller for fine tuning your aim for headshots. The movements are similar to a slight rocking of the controller, barely any actual movement is really involved.
There’s definitely a learning curve, but once you get it, aiming is much faster and more accurate than traditional controls alone. There are many videos out there of pro level gamers discussing the benefits and doing side by side comparisons between dual analog and gyro-assisted dual analog. The gyro option always wins, hands down.
People seem to think it’s the “casual” option. It’s not. It removes aim assist from the equation, which more or less makes it the more “hardcore” option, since you’re relying on skill more than a software algorithm helping you out.
(For the record, I think the terms “casual” and “hardcore” are both incredibly stupid and immature qualifiers for people who just enjoy playing games)
ID: gztwtb3I'm really inline with your post and I think the DualSense makes an excellent case for even more technical steps with the software for controllers (in general). It's even more accessibility to games as well for those who may be impaired.

thats what i've been saying, by microsoft buying out Bethesda, Sony is going to have to create its own Elder Scrolls rpg "killer".
Nothing is more important than immersion in a rpg. and the ps5 has everything it needs to make a great one, with the dual sense, 3d audio, and the quick load ssd i/o.
I hope they put their best studios on this.
ID: gzu0vziDang so many good studios at sony though, Santa Monica created the elusive 10/10 game... So that's my natural assumption but all of the studios are industry leaders... I guess I would want a media molecule open world game?
I've only briefly played LBP when I was young and I assume Sackboy is more of the same linear story but not side scrolling anymore?
As a challenge for MM have a game that's essentially like animal crossing, but also like little big planet.... ... So Idk what that would look like but I imagine one short story or side mission would be like the indie game 'a short hike'.
But if its more of the expected realistic sim open world game, then maybe don't be zombies... Maybe do something like the order and have it be something weird like Grimm fairy tales.stuff, and penny dreadul
ID: gzuuno4How have you managed to work Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda into a conversation about the DualSense controller?
ID: gzubmt5i mean, gameplay is more important than all of that stuff combined
-
I was sold on the dualsense on day one. I don’t even care about my Xbox anymore. Even the comfort of the controller is better than the Xbox controller and that was arguably the best part of the Xbox controller.
-
Haven't played Returnal yet, but the DualSense is very awesome. Very excited to experience Returnal with it someday soon
-
I actually have managed to use it to my advantage in Call of Duty. Bringing the right trigger down to the point of resistance before firing, I can reduce travel time for firing, and give myself quicker response time. It’s awesome.
ID: gzveupiWhich is kind of how real guns work, a sniper will put 2lbs of pressure on a 3lb trigger as he gets ready to shoot.
The first time I played Control and the pistol trigger actually felt like a pistol trigger was so damn cool.
-
I have to wonder if my dual sense is like defective or something because everyone raves about it, and I'm really unimpressed. The vibration feels much the same and the adaptive triggers are barely used across games, and when they are, you have to pull them so gently to make sure you're getting any effect. (All my settings are set to strong on the controller)
ID: gzwf5rqSame here. I mean, it's nice and all, but not as revolutionary and impactful as I would have hoped.
-
They need to get the damn drift issues solved though. I've had my ps5 since December and am already on my third controller. The last one didn't even last a month.
-
Can’t wait to see what they do in Ratchet and Clank!
-
Agree. Only one downside, the controller makes A LOT of noise imo.

For sure it sounds gimmicky but it’s so awesome and immersive. It’s what I miss most when I go from PS5 games to PS4 games. More than the extra frames per second or added horsepower, I miss #1 the adaptive triggers are like nothing else and #2 the haptics are truly next-gen compared to rumble.
