Hey all, I’m not super hardware savvy and looking for hopefully easy advice. I’m looking to buy an external SSD storage for my PS5. I think this piece should work well but wanted to confirm since it’s NVMe.
Any other recommendations instead of this one? Want to buy this weekend to take advantage of Memorial Day deals. Thanks a ton!
EDIT: Thanks all, I decided to go with Samsung’s T5 1TB. Sounds like PS5 can’t really use the fastest speeds on the market and this is a simple & quick solution. I might reevaluate in a few months.

Overpriced. You can get a non enclosed drive with better read and write speeds for less, then just buy a 15 dollar enclosure
I paid 185 for a 2tnb nvme and 15 dollars for enclosure a few months back for my xbox
ID: gzwodvuID: gzwqdveI'd rather saturate the usb 3.1 gen 2 port than be limited by low bitrate drive
Also I like the smaller footprint of thr enclosure and find it more aesthetically pleasing
ID: gzwqvq0Depending on the announce this summer I may be able to drop it into the ps5 too, and then can wait to buy a larger internal expansion card for xbox when prices drop

Got Samsung one non enclosed 1tb and cable just like in the video and all works well.
EDIT : links with products are in the video description.

I got a Samsung 1TB T5 for around 75.00 on sale. Also have a Western Digital Blue 1 TB Ssd I got for 69.00 on sale as well.
Both have been great. I store my shareplay videos to the Blue and my games to the T5.
ID: gzwrcvjSo can you have both plugged in and recognised by the console at the same time?
ID: gzwsbmbI’m sorry I should’ve specified that. No I don’t, but I have both drives next to my 5 and 4 and I swap the cable when I need either one.
Once my media data occupies a large chunk I swap to my media SSD and transfer once done I go back to my gaming SSD.
Sorry for confusion.

That's a real nice drive. It should last a long long time. Even after the PS5. I'd get one at that deal.

I went for bulk and got this one.

Check your local Walmart occasionally. There was a markdown on the 500GB and I was able to snag one in store for $35. Check here for the thread on slickdeals. This was two weeks ago but it doesn’t hurt to keep your eyes open for one.

Amazon Prime day is in June. Just wait for a good sale.
ID: gzwymtzI might do that - but also just bought the Samsung T5 which I can use for other stuff if I get a better deal in June or July sales. Thanks!

Consider a Samsung t5 instead. External wont fully take advantage of nvme speeds, and digital foundry found the t5 was the same ps4 loading speeds as the t7 (faster, more expensive version). Best Buy has a 1 tb T5 for $120.

You're wasting a lot of performance running an NVMe over USB. You'd probably be better off using a less expensive SSD or an HDD.
Large HDDs are really cheap and you'll be hardpressed to fill them. You can only play PS4 games from an external, and those get varying benefits from an SSD. Some games get much better load speeds, some don't.

Bookmarked. Good post 🙂

Why?
There is no benefit to getting an Nvme drive that will be limited massively by USB speeds
