Do any of you people get a faster boot, and then better overall system snappiness if you "totally cold boot your PC" (unplug power from wall after shutdown, leave it 5-10 minutes, plug back in and turn on)?
For the longest time I thought I was hallucinating, but then I tried measuring things once I noticed that cold-booting triggers it.
consistently I get 4 seconds less boot time (the led indicator lights on my mobo go through the post-check much faster) once in Windows, all my applications open very, very noticeably faster Borderlands 3's initial loading to main menu, in particular, is a whopping 45 seconds quicker (almost half the time usually required).Anyone else experiencing this?
My uefi settings (that I think are releavnt for boot behaviour): - csm off - secure boot on - fast boot off - boot logo on - windows 10 is installed in gpt/uefi mode
Specs: - Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus (UEFI v2607, conforms to AGESA v1.0.8.0) - Ryzen 3700X (stock, PBO disabled) - Gskill 16 GB, 3200-14-14-14-34 (XMP) - Radeon RX 6700XT (just slightly undervolted) - Corsair AX850 Titanium PSU - Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB NVME 3.0 boot drive
I'm still waiting to update my bios, as the agesa 1.2.0.2 version never came out of beta, and the next version (v1.2.0.3. patch A) isn't even out in beta form for my mobo yet...

Actually, my zen 2 and zen 3 implementations all FUCKING HATE cold boots. X470 and x570, it doesn't matter; if I am going to have a problem it is on cold boot.
On x570 and zen 3(c8f/5950x) I cannot cold boot known stable in idle/light/moderate/heavy workloads PBO and curve optimizer settings at all. I have to leave the system on for a few minutes to allow some heat to saturate the cpu block and loop before it will boot and run nary a problem into perpetuity.
ID: h0x151zID: h0x2b1wCertainly has been the case for me in the past (training). The board will throw up CPU error codes or a (iirc) B7 vga error code, the latter being by far the most frequent.
As for stock settings though... I'll give it a try when I get off work and hit you back if you want to gather some info. Let me know what you consider stock for the sake of comparison. I have 3200, 3600, 3733, 3800, 3866, and 4000 memory profiles saved and could just set it to JEDEC. Just hmu
ID: h0yaypkThink i remember turning of ram training in past on older system of mine to speed up cold boots, not sure if i would now tho.

Is Windows 10 configured for "fast startup"; that causes all kinds of issues
ID: h0ybghtThat's what I was thinking. The test might be worth repeating with Fast boot turned on and off.
Fast boot is weird tech, I've yet to hear anyone say anything good about it, I'm not even sure if it actually does what it's supposed to do.
ID: h0yfpb8I've been disabling fast startup right after installing windows since Windows 8 released...
So no, it's not that. I'm talking specifically about cutting power to the PSU, letting the idle current inside the system fade away, then plugging it back in and powering on. Somehow, doing exactly that produces the benefits described in the OP. I don't see how this could have to do with anything besides the BIOS/UEFI/AGESA. It's either a bug, or some undocumented hardware interaction.

Make sure windows fast startup is disabled. With it enabled (its enabled by default), when you do a regular shut down from windows, it ends the user session but hibernates the kernel.
From an admin command line: powercfg.exe /h off
Note this also disables hibernate mode.

I can confirm this happens with me. Happens all the time when I unplug power cord from PC to clean or install new component. No idea why but glad I’m not the only one noticing this.
ID: h0xo4nrWould you be kind enough to provide your motherboard make
and bios revision? Thank You!ID: h0xqf5qYeah! Same mobo but Wi-Fi version, latest stable bios.

can't replicate on asrock... but i was rather disappointed with asus's boards and still am. I've still not handled a single Asus board for ryzen platform.

Boots instantly if you stick it in your freezer...
ID: h0x0xpmThis was very informative. Thank you very much!

I am actually aware of this - there was a lot of talk about agressive RAM OC's "training" on cold boot and therefore making the system boot for a long time.
I'm talking about stock settings though...
