Might be better to link to the actual mod release page than a eurogamer article that has copied all the relevant text directly from there.

"New Races" might be a bit of a stretch considering it lists 10 different (Chaos) Space Marine Chapters but I guess each gets semi-unique units.

I do find this quote on the moddb site hilarious and intriguing though:

Serious Warning: If you have heart (or any other medical) issues, do NOT play Against the Emperor's Children!!! Their Survival profile is NOT for the faint-hearted!!! You have been warned, we bare no responsibility if you still dare try!

It’s definitely weird calling them a “new race” but honestly the Dark Angels for example so desperately needed an overhaul that it’s not necessarily an inaccurate term

I was wondering about how many different Space Marines those 17 "new" races would include. Thanks for the lols of it being mostly them.

Most races play fairly differently. Steel Legion is a subfaction of IG in the game but they are more focused on tanks than infantry. Blood Angels is a subfaction of Space Marines but they are designed to be more melee-focused with the Red Thirst and Black Rage mechanics added into the gameplay. Likewise for other factions, they are designed to fit the lore of the specific faction along with unique mechanics. Even Thousand Sons is a subfaction of Chaos, they are quite different as their core Space Marines are about as slow as Necrons in moving speed in DoW1 but once you added a Sorceror to it, they move like normal Chaos Marines. On top of that, they are better at range than the base game Chaos along with a selection of Tzeetch specific units.

Take it more like the DLC Lords that CA added to Total War Warhammer II. I think most factions have something unique to them or at least they get units that the core game does not have.

If you love DoW1, I do highly recommend this mod. Along with Ultimate Apocalyse.

Whats a survival profile?

Out of curiosity, does this support using the new races in the campaign (even if not against them, because that'd be way more work)? The mod page doesn't really say anything about it that I could see, and I don't have any interest in the multiplayer aspect.

Obviously I assume you can do Skirmish with them, but a big draw of the game for me was the map-based campaign.

Dawn of War is one of my favorite RTS games out there. I'm glad to hear people are still modding it. I never really got into it, but I have fond memories of trying out Ultimate Apocalypse once.

An HD remake would be incredibly cash.

This looks super cool, does anyone know if this works with the apocalypse mod?

ID: gq7lvmf

Unlikely since they’re such huge mods on their own. But this one does have an option to increase unit caps along with a hardcore and soft core option if you want squishier or tougher units.

How does this compare to Ultimate Apocalypse? I know that mod added a lot, but never tried it. I know it had balancing and developer troubles though.

A lot more polish, a lot better balancing , and much better AI. It really feels like an expansion.

Witch hunters and deamonhunter inquisitors.... did these need to be two different things?

ID: gq67ahr

In 40k they two different 'branches' of the Inquisition and are very different, the Witch Hunters being Ordo Hereticus and focused on humans doing weird shit, such as unsanctioned psykers or just plain traitors.

The Ordo Malleus, the Daemonhunters, on the other hand battle various Chaos Spawns and Daemons, literal physical manifestations of the warp.

ID: gq66sbw

Yes, they're two very separate branches of the Inquisition with different tactics and equipment.

ID: gq67w8o

The Ordo Hereticus (Witchunters) deals with heretics, pyskers and mutants. The Ordo Malleus (Daemonhunters) deals with Chaos and daemons. They are respectively associated with the Sisters of Battle and the Grey Knights. There's also the Ordo Xenos.

Having the Ordos separate makes the same sense as separate Space Marine factions.

I'm going to have to check this out just for the tyranids. I hated that DoW2 had tyranids and changed the gameplay from what I loved about the first game.

I so wish I could play this on macOS.

(Yes I know I could bootcamp, I have that set up, I just can’t be bothered for a casual gaming session)

It runs in proton pretty well. Does steam support proton for mac?
