- Warrior of Light over the years. What happened?
-
Chaos that's what happened
ID: h1xh1opID: h1zee7uNomura confirmed to be chaos?
-
"Stranger", only 3 members...it's easy to theorize that Jack and company aren't the warrio
of light.I'm prepared to see the story ends as they sacrifice themselves to pave way for FF1.
ID: h1xmfx1These guys are the bats in the chaos shrine.
ID: h1xf381I mean Garland sent himself through time loops for like 1000 years or some such to become Chaos, right? This could just be one of the iterations.
ID: h1xuup4Maybe they are the reason the WoLs start with the crystals?
ID: h1yksnbOh, they've been loving the pointless sacrifice ending lately. Good call.
ID: h1ypnzuI thought the same thing, but they actually do say in the trailer, “We are the warriors of light, foretold by the prophecy.”

He was sent 1000 years into the future by Sin.
ID: h1xx4xySin's toxins got to him ya?
ID: h1xina8I am here for this lore.
-
I'm still laughing at the writing... C H A O S

You cant tell me that's NOT luxord from kingdomhearts
ID: h1xvibrNah, that's Cor with dyed hair.
-
They bravely went default
ID: h1xphvcThis comment would be top tier if Bravely Default had even more casual/generic costumes.
-
What, is a polo shirt and joggers not appropriate attire for killing Chaos? Should he wear an oxford shirt instead? Is killing Chaos more of a formalwear or casual event?
ID: h1ycffgI wanna say fedora, what do you think?

Final Fantasy, meet Final Reality
I can’t wait to get into the lore, magic, monsters, etc… in my tattered v-neck and dark slim fit jeans!
ID: h1xscskI put on my robe and wizard hat.
-
My man looks like he picked up that entire outfit at Zara.
-
I agree the characters are boring and generic looking. But I will note he looked very different and a lot cooler by the end of my demo run.
ID: h1xpcy2Yeah he looked like that for all of 10 seconds. Looked like monster hunter character very early on.
-
He had a discount at diet H&M
ID: h1yetiwI don’t want to see anymore god damn H&M!
-
Looks like a Bachelorette contestant

The lack of Square directing the art style to fit Amano's work has bothered me more and more as graphical capability has improved. So, despite a little bit of dishonesty in that Amano's work rarely had any similarity to what's in game, I'll gladly take the opportunity to yell at Square to get a clue and have at least one game where Amano's art is used as direction. Preferably a game where there seems to be a lack of inspiration... or lack of fan approval, for the few that really liked what they saw.
I don't think the game looks trash btw, it can just easily be made 10x better by having the Final Fantasy charm.ID: h1xjyasI sort of agree, although I think such a game needs to embrace Alamo’s art style from its very inception.
Frankly, I want a “weird” Final a Fantasy. Something more aline to Oddworld or Majora’s Mask, maybe go so over-the-top, nothing seems real. Take Hollow Bastion from the first Kingdom Hearts game, and base a game around that sort of “vibe”.
I would love to see such a wildly different take.
ID: h1y3tisWe know that a 3D Final Fantasy true to Amano's style is possible at least. Just add more colour to Dark Souls 3.
The Soulsborne art styles are heavily inspired by Amano imo, even explicitly given what the Ringed City borrows from Angel's Egg.
ID: h1xki5lI always liked that Amano’s work is so overtly fantastical looking while the games themselves always have strong sci-fi elements. It creates a distance between reality and the imagination.
ID: h1xjq6xI agree
I’ve been a fan of Akhiko Yoshida’s art for the series so far though, and feel it’s good middle ground that’s different enough from Amano, but still feels like it’s in the same universe. Yoshida has done the art for Ivalice, XIV, and XVI. He also did the art for all three Bravely Default games and Nier Automata. I hope they at least go more in his direction, if they’re moving away from Amano
ID: h1y2982If I remember correctly, Amano stopped being the primary character designer by FFVI, and was instead drawing his own art based off the designs created by the rest of the team. For instance, Nomura designed Setzer, and then Nomura and Yoshida were creating the designs for their respective projects first.
After seeing FFXV's Big Bang trailer, though, I'm still waiting to see if an Amano-style 3D aesthetic in action. Closest we got was some bosses in FFXIV, but they still had a lot of "FFXIV" to them.
ID: h1xks1rAll of the Dissidia games are super influenced by Amano's artwork. But yeah, I'd love to see more
-
If I'm allowed to be optimistic, that's probably just his unarmored model.
ID: h1xrnalIt is, you can see him with different armors in the trailer.
-
What happened ? They tried to appeal western public.
-
"When it's time for E3 and you forgot to design the characters ..."
-
Just finished the demo and the first piece of basic armor you get looks so much better than this shirt.
-
Here's the thing... Nomura has had some GREAT character designs throughout the years. But when SE let's him have a say in literally every FF IP they are going to start coming out kind of same-y and the worst ones will look like this. Nobody can convince me this isn't a more generic FFXV design.
-
I have to imagine Square is going to take the reception to the trailer to heart and rework the character designs substantially, maybe even going so far as to allow you to outfit "Jake" here in armor that is highly reminiscent of Amano's design.
-
The main character looks like a Create-A-Wrestler and the dialogue sounds like it was written by a ten year old.
Vintage Nomura.
-
I’m predicting his endgame armour will be “classic” warrior of light gear
-
Yeah yeah I get it, CHAOS jokes are hilarious, but why aren’t more people upset that the game (at least what we’ve seen thus far) appears to pay zero homage to Amano or the aesthetic of FF1?
I was so psyched when they announced this but now that I’ve seen what they intend I’m just upset.
-
Looks like chaos
-
He’s not canonically the same character though… is he?
-
Feel free to jump to conclusions, but I…. don’t think that’s going to be the Warrior of Light. There were only three characters shown in an original party of 4. I imagine those three are going to get defeated, then join up with the”main” Warrior of Light afterwards. This sub is really turning into a toxic, pessimistic bunch.
ID: h1ximxhSeriously, it's plainly obvious that none of these guys are the same people we see in the original FF I. I'm also willing to give a little leeway to a spin-off title that is obviously not a traditional FF game.
-
You almost immediately get gear to replace that outfit.
