People often say that Shounen protags are asexual and I'm always eh... I don't think so, they mostly just don't show that side of them because it's a shounen.
Luffy though? Luffy ACTUALLY gives no fuck about fucking. The dude cares so little about fucking that he's immune to sex rays.
And it honestly feels like that's how Oda intends to write the character because he goes out of his way to justify initial horniness when the characterization was still being solidified that he wasn't having the hornies. He was just imitating his friends.

ID: gq5rwgcIt's weird, I've seen plenty of shonen characters who ignore/don't recognise people's feelings for them. But apart from Luffy, I don't think I've ever seen one who outright rejects romantic advances. It really can't get more explicit than Luffy telling Hancock "I'm not gonna marry you," I can't think of any other examples of this, at least in shonen.
Honestly, having the lead character of the world's most popular comic be an ace rep fucking rocks!

No matter how ridiculously thirsty Sakura (or anyone else) is gonna get, Ryu probably isnt even gonna consider it given that even while he has been shown to have some aspects to his personality outside of fighting (such as his friendship with Ken), romance certainly doesn't seem to be one of them.

Adol Christin from the ”Ys” series.
Adol does two things. He causes the boats that he rides to crash upon the shores of a distant land, and he then causes the women of said land to pine for him before getting on another boat so that he may crash on the shores of another distant land.
I’m just waiting for the ”Ys” game where all of the women finally catch up to him and give him a piece of their...mind.

It's actually cool Luffy is canonical asexual, most asexual charters tend to be robotic vessels incapable of emotion or weird snobbish elitest. Luffy though? Luffy is a super fun adventure-driven guy.

I couldn't really imagine any of the straw hats having a romance or relationship or any kind of arc like that, it's never been even remotely hinted at, sanji and brook are pervs and lady's men so maybe give them a romantic interests at some point but one piece really isn't the type to care about that stuff especially when compared to other anime like naruto, yu yu hakusho or bleach where the romance elements were always there

Someone on this sub likened shounen protagonists to pop idols in regards to relationships. I haven't been able to unsee it since.
I wouldn't call them asexual, because most of them are implied to be heterosexual, but relationships are bad for business due to them possibly alienating their target audience, so it's rare that you see it.
