- Evolution of the Dunmer throughout the Elder Scrolls games
-
Everyone had a potato-shaped face in Oblivion though. They were too eager that the new hardware could display curves.
ID: h3bg9k1ID: h3bgrj8Yeah. The first time I played Oblivion the impression of gaming evolution was felt just as strongly as the first time I played Skyrim.
ID: h3bhksp"You know, those guys in Hammerfell have curved faces. Curved.....faces."
ID: h3bh6bsAnd yet when Oblivion came out, I thought it was the most hightech graphical representation of models ever. I thought they couldn't get any better, ever.
ID: h3bj4anThe light shining thru the mist in those elven ruins. Ugh. Unforgettable.
ID: h3bk18sComing out of the prison tunnel. Riding around on horseback. My friend always wanted to play gears of war but I was obsessed with Oblivion. The main reason I got an xbox was to play it
ID: h3beyxhThey were too eager that the new hardware could display curves.
Is that the actual reason or just speculation? That would be pretty fascinating. I’ve always wondered why they made the faces so weird.
ID: h3bfi4bWell even if it is speculation, seems pretty much on the money, there isn't an edge in that game. Which is why the faces look like balloons and the swords look like plastic toys.
ID: h3bhxbuConsidering everything before then was super blocky, curves back then were mind blowing.

That middle one is the Bosmer in every game.
ID: h3bi9kbYou'd better hope Gaenor didn't hear you say that.

Jiub probably is the coolest looking character in the series
ID: h3b6gjjSAINT Jiub thank you very much.
He did not eradicate the winged menace of Vvardenfell for you to ignore his accomplishments!
ID: h3bscutRIP Jiub. Doomed to forever suffer in the soul cairn.
ID: h3b9jctHis flow is pretty sick too
ID: h3bd0oeToo well done wow
ID: h3bhqciEvery time I play an Elder Scrolls game I make a Dunmer named Jiub and like to pretend it’s him from Morrowind. Can’t wait to continue his adventures in ES6.
ID: h3bi521He dead yo. Got himself soul trapped
ID: h3bm489How do you deal with meeting yourself in Skyrim
ID: h3bm9l8He got killed like hell in the Siege of Kvatch during the oblivion crisis, homie

Remember how bleak vampirism used to be
ID: h3bg4mrRight, vampires in Skyrim and Oblivion are like "I am the prince of darkness, and now I'm 50% cooler" meanwhile Morrowind it's like "Fuuuuuuuuuck the sun. I could have sworn there was a fucking cave around here somewhere. Why won't anyone love me?"
ID: h3bhpz2Idk vampirism was p rough in oblivion. Skyrim's vampirism is the real power fantasy.
ID: h3bh8giBro give the vampire mod for fallout 4 a try it’s a lot like morrowinds vampirism it’s called sanguinaris or something similar

Oblivion was very pretty and visually appealing, which I feel worked wonders, but the Elven races suffered greatly.
ID: h3bij5nFemale Wood Elves looked okay, but the males...
ID: h3btcuz"By Azura, by Azura, by Azura! It's the Grand Champion! I can't believe it's you! Standing here! Next to me!"
ID: h3bjhjbIt was a very beautiful world, I just wish they toned down the bloom a bit.
ID: h3bl555I think every race suffered from this weird "puffy face" illness 😉

The things I would do for a Morrowind remake.
ID: h3b37jbTry Morroblivion, been about for years and it's really good as you don't have the dice roll combat anymore 🙂
-
I remember seeing Oblivion pre-release footage and thinking that I am witnessing the pinnacle of video game graphics. The past was a wild time.
-
Morrowind N'wahs be like "I SMOKE A PACK OF DAY, AND BEAT MY SLAVES FOR BREAKFAST
and Skyrim N'wahs be like "OI IM BRI'ISH"
-
Morrowind Dunmer are the bestest Dunmer.

Raspy -> Posh -> Weirdly Australian?
ID: h3bnzbzIt seemed like every character in Skyrim was half-Nord with pointy features.
-
The real Oblivion Crisis was all the shrimp allergies everyone seemed to be suffering from.
-
Ahh, Oblivion, the game where every character is Dave Murray from Iron Maiden. Love it.
-
Dark Elves have always been my favorite. Though I did start playing Breton for my 3rd character in Oblivion and never went back because that extra 50 magika was awesome and the 50% resist magic was kind of broken.
ID: h3blwinI felt most comfortable as an Argonian in Oblivion because of how much water there was. Dungeons, caves, overworld had so much hidden in water

In Oblivion the problem is less with the look and far more with the… voice actor.
Wood Elves sounding - I’m just going to say ‘extremely effeminate’ is fine, kind of works out for them. But Dark Elves sorely needed their own voice actor with the rasp and gruffness expected from them.
Meanwhile things like Argonians, Imperials, and Nords really got great voice actors for the races.
ID: h3bxgnjThey actually had the same dark elf VA for Oblivion but scrapped it all for some reason. You can even hear him in the 2005 E3 demo.

It was the first time Bethesda had rigged faces. For the time it was easier to overlook the potato faces because it was one of the earlier games to not only have rigged face models but also voice acting to go with it. In hindsight they probably should’ve gone with a more stylized approach that was better at hiding the limitations of the time
