- Just announced Steam Deck. PC mobile handheld powered by AMD. Starts from $499CAN
-
Perfect, now I can stare at my unplayed games on the toilet.
ID: h5bp9mkID: h5bq9b8Ah yes, the overchoice syndrome.
-
Pretty hyped but I’m checking my expectations until I hear more about battery life and heat output
ID: h5brf1v2 to 8 hours, charges via USB so you can feed it off power banks as well
No porting is HUGE by the way - if all games on steam work on the deck it's gonna have a killer and cheap game library from the get go
ID: h5bwzefNot only that, but it supposedly supports Windows Xbox, EGS and whatever else, the big news there is that You can play all the gamespass shit on it.
Hell it'll probably be able to play Halo.
I'd be soooo down to pull some friends together in a room to play halo like it was highschool again.
ID: h5bhogjHeat dunno, battery 2 to 8 hours. 2 if you just straight up run RDR2 or Doom Eternal, 8 any less demanding titles.
ID: h5bp9h3the base model won't have enough storage for either game, but Im guessing it will be optimized for streaming
ID: h5bov0aYeah one thing I've learned from steam hardware is to wait and buy it when it gets discontinued lol
ID: h5bqrrsOof! Right in the facts.

LONG VITA
ID: h5bu546Nah it look like a game gear

I don’t own a computer so I will probably buy this. I would like to be able to play steam games on the go.
ID: h5ayvx9Same. Was holding off for a substantial Switch upgrade too. This looks like it'll cover both for me, portable & PC games. Add that you could potentially run emulators too? Yeah, I'm very excited for this.
ID: h5b7l2rYes and you can even run Desktop programs on it and use it as one
ID: h5bdriwEven if a Switch Pro comes out next year, I highly doubt it will be nearly as powerful as this. This thing is awesome.
ID: h5bbq1oPlus, unlike nintendo, PC games will eventually come down in price over time, and online play isn't locked behind a paywall.
ID: h5azdcfI didn’t even think about emulators. I’ll be picking this up for sure.
ID: h5b5f34Buys games on Steam sale
Rationale: I can play these anytime.
life ensues and you look at dusty home pc in corner of the room
ID: h5b9jjdFelt this in my soul.

The fact you can pop in a Micro SD makes this pretty interesting to me. I might buy that $400 version at some point just so I can play some of the 1k+ games I’ve amassed on there in bed.
ID: h5axbwbI might buy one to load it up with emulation stuff and never touch it again after playing SMB2 a couple of times.
ID: h5ay99zThis is what happened with my Playstation Classic. I was super stoked to get it for $20, I installed Project Eris so I could load up any PS1 games, then I remembered I can do the same thing with a PC at higher resolution, and I lost interest. The PS Classic is a fantastic gadget but I overestimated how interested I would be in using it.
ID: h5b7f6gI have done this with so many devices it's shameful.
ID: h5bnfxmso I can play some of the 1k+ games I’ve amassed on there in bed.

I can't wait for valve to abandon this so I can get one for 5 bucks.
ID: h5auqk5I’d even pay 15.
ID: h5av2rkShout out to my steam link that just stopped working one day
ID: h5b99cqIf you want it back, there's a mobile app, an app for a lot of TVs, and you can turn a £30 Raspberry Pi into a steam link too.
ID: h5aw0qoI was able to get an rma for mine about a year ago. Can't hurt to check with them
ID: h5b1apy...and then years down the line for people to realize how amazing it actually was and have the price shoot back up as supply dwindles.
See Steam Controller.

Just think of all the emulators this thing will eventually run.
ID: h5br6p7Not eventually, immediately. It's literally just a portable Linux PC, and you can install Windows on it if you want.
-
For $400 bucks, you can play all your PC games on a fucking Sega Game Gear!
ID: h5ats4aI can’t tell if you are excited or poopooing it.
ID: h5ayjfxI for one expect excitement. Did you own a game gear?! Spoiler alert: exciting!
ID: h5b5b0hRequires 36 AA batteries not included.
ID: h5b3if7Better be out of battery in 30 min or that won't be a real game gear experience.
-
I had one of these in the 90s bro , I know a sega game gear when I see one
ID: h5b4srcBro, you're confused. That's a SEGA Nomad.
ID: h5bb5wwI still have one of these. Amazing device at the time.

Valve seems to be the only company that understands how important grip buttons are. They should be the standard on all platforms.
ID: h5bo0m6Patented and you have to pay licence fees, which keeps them from becoming totally standard.
ID: h5bq8fzYea they got lost a patent suit on the steam control very recently.
-
Hah, another "console" for play Skyrim. Nice.
ID: h5bbo5bThis was my first thought. Finally I can play modded skyrim on a handheld device ;D
-
This is seriously awesome. I don’t play enough high definition PC games to justify a rig, but a lot of the games I do/did play are just beyond my MacBook’s capability. This is the perfect solution for me.

I've been waiting for this exact thing for 10 years. Might actually start catching up on finishing games in my steam library.
