Is that a God damn portable steam machine?
ID: h5bns2vID: h5bs1yqThey sure seem to have a ’loco’ motive
ID: h5bmvioYes.
And the best part is it's a fully functional mobile PC, not a console with a custom OS, so you can install windows on it and play fully modded Skyrim.
ID: h5bs474Holy shit. Just looked up a bunch of videos on it. The only downfall is the storage space, but it's expandable via SD card. I have a pretty huge nerd boner right now.
ID: h5bqfhtSo wait, can I run emulators on this thing?
ID: h5bsj92So it runs Doom
ID: h5c05ouYou can also not install Windows on it and play fully modded Skyrim
ID: h5bn59yThat is a god damn portable steam machine.
ID: h5btszzyeah they just announced them, it's like $500 canadian
-
Hold on... can you play dota 2 on this?
ID: h5bulgoYes.
ID: h5bwrikIt's a pc ,,,, duh
-
I don't care how much it'll cost, if it's a mini Gaming pc, I'll take it.
Okay I lied about the first part, I do care about the cost
ID: h5bmzc0ID: h5bnc6mOh, that's not bad.
-
Yeah but does it have zelda at 15fps? No it does not
ID: h5bn86lit will be fun if it runs it better in emulator than Switch...
ID: h5bqcukCemu is mostly CPU bound if I remember, and it's got a half decent zen2 CPU in it, coupled with a low Res screen .... So we might actually see it run better emulated on this.
ID: h5bruioDepends, are we talking the Switch or Wii U version?
-
what is valve gonna do?? make an exclusive game themselves??
ID: h5bpz2oLike Half Life: Alyx? Not only exclusive to Steam on PC, but VR as well.
ID: h5bz8tqyes, it was just exaggerated, sorry.

It's not about the specs, tbh. The deck doesn't run 4K either (portable 4K is just not there yet for a reasonable price).
But the freedom.
You can play Super Mario Galaxy 2 on this, true full hd, 60 fps.
Which you can't on the latest Nintendo console.
It's... weird.
ID: h5bse0zDoes 4k make sense for that screen size? I thought that below 14 inches you can't properly distinguish between 4k and 1080p.
I would think higher fps (144 Hz and above) are preferable for a screen of that size.
ID: h5c2qe1I don't understand people's obsession with 4k when the Switch doesn't even have stable 1080p 60fps on lock.
ID: h5c38x8Both this and the switch have displays that are 720p 60hz. I have no idea why people were expecting a switch pro with 1080p handheld or more, it'd murder the battery life.
(Technically this is 1280x800, but the difference is negligible in terms of quality, it's just a different aspect ratio)
ID: h5bt66oIt's an 1280x800p screen, it's not full hd.
ID: h5brdv3Afaik it should be able to technically output 4k over the USB, tho that'll only make sense for videos and stuff. 4k gaming at 60 fps is probably still a challenge even for most gaming PCs.
ID: h5brv0cIt most definitely doesn't have the hardware to even come close to running 4k in anything that isn't 2d.
ID: h5bsas8I am convinced people demanding portable 4K are crazy. How can they even tell the difference? Most humans can even tell the difference on a TV when sitting at a reasonable distance unless the screen is huge.

The steam deck actually looks really good…. Can I play War Thunder on it?
ID: h5bwut2Yes. War Thunder is already on SteamOS
-
My hands are cramping up just imagining using those face buttons. Is ergonomic and handheld an oxymoron?
-
I checked the spec page
and it doesnt mention the type of screen
only that its 400 nits, 1280x800 60 hz.
I really hope it's decent. I'd much rather have this type of handheld than a switch. The switch is nice but.. it's got a tiny game library - all things considered
ID: h5c27spI mean I'd be using it for MOBILE MODDED SLAY THE SPIRE! MODDED BINDING OFNISSAC! Hell. I could even play Dyson Sphere Program wherever the fuck I want. I'm in.
ID: h5bt5e5I've been seeing that it's LCD, not OLED. So we'll see how it looks.

Those river noises are scalpers salivating.
ID: h5bq13dValve has a pretty clever idea for stopping at least some of this. If the Steam account hasn't bought something before this announcement hit then they have to wait a few days to reserve one. I doubt they'll allow someone to reserve more than 1 or 2, so this should limit the scalping.
ID: h5bqmdkNice. Hopefully it works.
ID: h5btrbdThe limit is one per account, for now.
ID: h5btgxkIt is limited to reserving 1.
ID: h5btg86Paid reservations to buy a Steam Deck will begin tomorrow, 16th July, limited to one per customer for anyone with a Steam account that has made a purchase prior to June 2021. Take that scalpers!
ID: h5bq9xkExcept there's a queue system which I believe also requires a deposit. It's almost like they knew that'd be an issue, and actually did something to help prevent it.
ID: h5bthv2Crazy idea.

I love steam so much
-Decent price
-lots of service, games and products
-Good help
-Lots of Sales
I know people love to trash on companies, but for real I never had any problem with Steam. I think genuinely it is the best gaming place.
-
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
-
Hope I can reserve one tomorrow cause the pricing is much better than I thought and I can't stand Nintendo's ecosystem and lack of discounts
-
Ayyy....Good to see there's an updated Game Gear coming out. I'm all for it. I don't suspect the battery is going to be all that great.
-
Yet what people buy Switch for is Nintendo games, which steamdeck don't.
